Accurate Facebook Ad Tracking Post iOS14.5 (For Online Courses, Coaching and Consulting Funnels)

  • Facebook ad tracking has been getting worse every day since the release of iOS 14.5. A significant proportion of our conversions are no longer being attributed against our Facebook ad campaigns as more people opt-out of tracking on iOS.
    It's making it extremely difficult (aka impossible) to rely on the Facebook ad manager alone to track Facebook ad results and measure performance.
    To make things worse, there are tons of different software products popping up promising to be a silver bullet that fixes the problem.
    Here's the truth - no tool or software platform can get data back into the Facebook ad manager for users who have opted out. If someone has opted out, Facebook will not track them no matter what you do.
    But you can still track your results externally. This allows you to still track leads, sales, and ROAS accurately in Google Analytics, so you can see how your ads are really performing even if the attribution data inside Facebook ad manager isn't reliable.
    This method is free, and relatively simple to set up if you're running ads to a sales funnel for a course, coaching, consulting, or lead generation.

    How has your tracking been affected since iOS14.5? Are you seeing far fewer conversions being reported in ads manager?

      If you run US campaign, specially based on iOS audience recent behaviour/ interest targeting, it's already gone on the Facebook. Yes, Google ads have accurate data for audience recent behaviour targeting. And it's the main reason businesses are in the loss factor recent days. Yes, for Android device Facebook ad working fine.
      Truly Facebook need to collaborate with apple. Or the Advertising targeting is going down 👎 from iOS 14. Just accept the truth as an ad specialist.

    Andrew, re Google Analytics tracking just the single session, if a user sees Facebook ad and later in a seperate session makes a purchase through email, do you think this will be tracked by Assisted vs Last Click data?

      Hi Jun Yi, thanks! You’ll still have the same limitation around being able to reliable separate traffic sources in GA

      @@AndrewHubbard1 Wow man thanks for the reply!!! With regards to your reply, am I not able to separate my traffic sources in GA by using different sub-domain/links for each traffic?
      I also have a couple more questions, really hope you can help me out as this whole tracking topic is pretty confusing
      2) At 20:44, you mentioned how you will go into Ads manager to view the data of events that occur INSIDE of FB such as CTR/CPC etc.. and then use GA to view the data of events that occur OUTSIDE of FB such as Leads, Purchase etc... Does this mean GA is not able to see the metrics like CTR, CPC of my ads path and only the external events like leads purchase etc..?
      If this is the case, is there any platform where I can import both facebook data and google analytics data to view everything in an organized setting?
      3) At 17:49, you mentioned "at some level" we will be able to see if our leads come from FB or IG, may I know what does this mean? I thought that GA is able to provide the full accurate details of which leads came from which ad and ad set?

    Great video again Andrew. 👌👌👌 BUT I have a question; How can you combine/set up UTM Parameters with GA Goals? I search all UTM-related youtube vids BUT there is no one explaining "how to combine/set up/tie UTM Parameter URLs with GA Goals". In your video; at 18:09, the screen shows your UTMs and Goals together. Can you please make a video about this, please? I believe it will get a ton of traffic. And in that video, if you give a "value" (10USD or etc.) to the goal while you are combining with UTM, we can able to see "Goal Conversion Rate" and "Conversion Value" on the GA's "Campaigns" page.     Thank you for the effort, Andrew. Me and my agency are having lots of trouble with ecommerce clients. We can't clone products pages and the conversion triggers when they click purchase.
    Just to understand, why Google Analytics doesn't suffer iOS 14.5 Privacy Policy? Is it not the same cookie technology as Facebook Pixel?

    Thanks for your valuable content Andrew. I was wondering what your opinion is on increasing and decreasing budgets on ABOs or CBOs. Do you increase them by up to 20% when they're running well or do you just duplicate them? And decrease them by 30% to "punish" them if they have been running well in the past or just turn them off?

      Thanks Vishal. I increase by 20% per day when they are performing well.
      I don’t try to “punish” them at all. Just depends on the particular scenario as to whether I pause or scale back budget for underperformers

    Hi Andrew congratulations for the interesting video (as always).
    If I understand correctly (English is not my mother tongue), is there no way to pass the obtained data (via Google Analytics) to FB to help the algorithm against late attribution? Thanks for the clarification!

      Hey Ben, glad you enjoyed this one. That's correct - there's no way to pass the data from GA to FB. You can pass the data via the FB conversions API but Facebook still won't match data to a user if they've opted out of tracking

      Lately (like many) I have been having serious problems with the attribution of conversions per purchase (the others such as add to cart, etc. seem to work fine).
      I use a WordPress plugin to track pixel and API conversions.
      Do you think that if I tracked purchases with Zapier (I saw you made a video on the subject) I could have more advantage over the WordPress plugin? Thank you in advance!

      Hey Soban, I’d still set up Google analytics and goal tracking for an e-commerce store.
      Depending on how much revenue you’re generating it might also be worth using something like wickedreports as well. That will give you much deeper insights

    😭 Unfortunately you didn't explain the real facts of Facebook ads targeting problem to iso 14 users. Which is completely dead. As an ad expert you can't Target iso 14 audience behaviour or their recent interest. What your are explaining on the video is retargeting any website visitors on the ads. And truly it's not a big things to do. Even if any user likes any Facebook page we can Target or retarget them. But it's 2023 running still Facebook killing around with new born name "Meta" and not having any real time solution for ads targeting .

      Actually retargeting and attribution are far better now than they were when ios 14.5 was first released. It’s quite good again.
      In terms of interest targeting - yes lots of interests have been removed, but that’s not a huge deal really. And interest targeting was very inaccurate when there were more available anyway.
