The day this dropped on MTV, it changed music forever.... Nirvana killed mainstream Heavy Metal and gave birth to grunge/punk mainstream. Literally shook our world in high school.
Punk came from 70s Britain.
@@ryiin punk came from Detroit in the late 60s
Sure did! God I miss those days!
Mainstream "heavy metal". metal was popular back in the mud 80's and early 90's but I would never have considered metal mainstream..
Grunge Rock was born with Nirvana
Shout out to my dude in the middle, educating these guys on Kurt and the bands influence. Awesome reaction!
That man is cultured.
@@lizmccarthy-edwards2115 intellence shouldnt be abt what music you listen to or your personality. Its abt what you can do with the information you do have
@@r.b7979 Uh. Yes.
@@lizmccarthy-edwards2115 i think its quite unintelligent of you to think that. Literally what does music taste have to do with your intelligence?
Most over rated band ever. Every song was the same.. mumble the lyrics softly then scream out the chorus. Every single song. Some how teenagers translates that into being angry and deep.
The guy in the middle knew the score, knew what a huge deal this song was. You could see it in his face. So happy the other guys loved this epic song.
Love how Nirvana makes everyone want to be in a rock band! Awesome
They could try Rock Band 2 if that guy wants to form a rock band.
"they really use instruments" that hit different.. idk why but it did lol
We live in a dark, sad time for music
Yea it summarized things cleanly
Right?! Usually it needs a laptop to make a song nowadays
This is why I barely listen to any music made post 2005 lol
Fucking sad
I am a 50 year old white woman from South Carolina and you guys make my day. I get up every morning just to see what y'all are up too. Keep doing what you do!!
Guy in the middle always shares great insight and knowledge.....he knows his music across all genres!
All genres, yeah? I want to know what he knows about I Prevail, Bad Omens, Ice Nine Kills....etc
@@tcpixiegeek6147 ask him
‘They really use instruments & stuff..’ 😂😂 I. Am. Dead.
Lol
For real!
This one song completely changed the landscape of music when it came out. It simultaneously killed the hair metal genre of the 80's and kickstarted the grunge genre of the 90's. One band, one song, changed the world. Then they followed it up with several more, and their MTV Unplugged concert is one of the best of all time.
Then it went the way of disco. Least disco was happy
@@chrischar9428I thought disco was in the 70s lol
@@TR13400 umm what. Who said it wasnt
@@chrischar9428 oh I thought you were saying disco came after this haha
Then grunge died quickly.
The guy in the middle(or in the back) , everyone needs a friend like this guy! He's cool AF
I remember the first time I ever saw this video..I was FIVE. I knew even at that age, that I was watching something spectacular. Nirvana is still one of my fav bands. Checkout “Zombie” by the Cranberries or some Alice In Chains “Would?”, “Man In A Box”, “Rooster”, and much more!
When Dolores referenced Kurt in one of her songs it made me choke the first time I heard it..
Alice in Chains and Cranberries, most definitely!!! Along with Pearl Jam, Linkin Park, Korn, Metallica, P.O.D., Papa Roach, etc... and this list can just go on and on, seriously......
AIC live at The Moore, "Love Hate Love"
Love the guy in the backs knowledge about these older bands. Great job man in the back
First time I found out the drummer, David Grohl, ended up making his own band, The Foo Fighters, after Nirvana was no more.. still one of my favorite music facts.
Sometimes I wish they would listen more than they talk.. Nirvana are LEGENDS!!
Shut
No kidding
I so love watching you guys open-mindedly digging into rock music I listen to every genre. But I love how you guys enjoy The Rock music.
I vibe with bro at the back so hard 😂 like hanging out with my younger mates “how TF you don’t know who ..... is?!”
man i didn't believe it when my friends told me. but there really are people out there who only listen to hip hip and RNB which is crazy to me, so much music out here man!!
Fuck I miss grunge music
🤟🏻
Everyone has that one friend that knows all the best music from every genre. They are usually the best people you will ever meet.
Damn. Hearing them say The Beatles are too old for them and that Nirvana is "old school sh*t" makes me feel ancient and I'm only 33.
I would LOVE to see you guys delve into rock. Your subs would go through the roof. SOO fun to watch ya’ll!! You don’t know who Motley Crue is?? 😂
HOLY SHIT I NEARLY DIED WHEN U SAID ABOUT THE WHITE LIGHTER 🤣 I was born in England in 84 and I remember hearing that story in the 90s. Im so glad you had your man there to help you…please try and explore music pre 2010. Even saying that makes me feel depressed 🙃
Very glad he was there!!! You never heard of Nirvana? 😂😂😂
@@stefaniebrauer128 he said nothing past 2010….TWENTY TEN 😱😱😱 it genuinely shook me up
@@SkadoooschMovieRanking right?! 😄
@@stefaniebrauer128 yup
You earned a "subscribe"from me. I love y'all's energy. Good music surpasses spoken language, that ish is universal love, if it moves you and makes you feel some type of way it's FOR YOU! I'm a 41 year old white boy and when I'm in my Lexus on the highway and I put on some Detroit rap like Dame I got the strap in the seat right next to me hard eyeballin' everyone!
They changed the game. Rock music was the 80's hair bands (Def Leopard, Poison, Guns N Roses, etc.) and Nirvana ended ALL of that. Grunge music was the fad immediately when this song came out. Seattle became the epicenter of grunge since so many bands came out of the Seattle area - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and others.
Alice in Chains, RIP Layne Staley he had monster vocals. Man in the Box, Rooster, Nutshell, Love, Hate, Love (live at the Moore) etc....
Grunge didn't end anything except a few of their lives. AC/DC, Ozzy been around 50yrs. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, 40yrs. Grunge was a lil different but "ended all of that" is a far reach
@@johnw806 they did though
S/O to the homie Brandon (gentleman in the middle here), educating his friends since DAY ONE! Many thanks Brandon
KIRKO BANGZ!!!
...Legends say that he's still out there somewhere with that drank in his cup.
I was in 9th grade when this video came out. I remember the first time I saw it. Changed my life.
This is the song that ended a musical era, glam rock of the eighties, over in one video!!! It was genius...I was a teenager in the eighties and still love that music to this day BUT Nirvana will always be legendary in the truest sense of that word!! RIP Kurt Cobain
Brandon always brings the words of wisdom on these guys all the time…. And he brings that handsome face and smile, and EXTREMELY good looking huge muscles for the rest of us ladies….and i, as a lady, would just like to personally say thank you to him for that…. Bc GOT-DAYUM he’s nice to look at…. And smart to boot!! But imma stop now bc I’m like 15 years older than him 🤣 but that secret stays just between me and all of y’all, y’all ain’t gonna tell nobody else, right?? 😂
a legend that changed the pop music history !!!
Legends in there time bro. One of the most influential bands in this century. I would like ya'll to listen to some old school Metallica, like master of puppets
Lmao lol I'm shocked & surprised they didn't even know KC. Haha
Nirvana is my no1 all time favorite artist. And yes I'm a black man that grew up in the hood. When SLTS came out it turned the music world on its head fr
As an old a$$ female, I loved watching this reaction video. I was 20 years old when this album came out & it changed everything musically. This was their "breakout hit". I feel proud to know the younger generations are learning about our music. Keep digging & sharing with us
I was probably 10-12 when Nirvana started, but we rocked Nirvana and continued to rock them and the whole grunge, then post-grunge all through high school! Yep for sure there was a WHOLE lot of Canadian kids guaranteed - speaking for myself 🤚🇨🇦 - who were totally turnt up to this, lol! That was us, in the gym at lunch playing mandatory intramural volleyball, the teachers actually let us blast this for some reason. What a time to grow up!! I imagine across the Midwest and Pacific Northwest the kids were into this too. Grunge takes me back to high school!!
Great reactions, You guys gotta react to some falling in reverse, popular monster and their newest track zombiefied, pure hype music!
Great choices
The brother with the Bass Pro Shop is the wiseman. He knows what's up.
Cobain left us way too early, too much pain inside of him wish someone could have helped him help himself. But his music will be Timeless. R.I.P MR Cobain. 🙏
The Beatles are from the 60s but still the best selling band to this day. You should give them a try starting with a little early songs to mid Era to later records.
The drummer is Dave Grohl, who formed a new band called The Foo Fighters after Kurt Cobain died. Dave played guitar for The Foo Fighters instead of drums and his drummer was Taylor Hawkins, who recently also died. Dave has been through some shit but he is still standing. Worth a review I'd say.
Yes actual musical instruments to write and play music!
Nirvana pretty much started the "grunge" scene! He was married to Courtney Love from the band
"Hole"...check her out "Doll Parts" is a good one! RIP Kurt! A lot of people blamed her for his death. They were both heavily into drugs back then.
Drummer for Nirvana is Dave Ghrole, who founded Foo Fighters
Subbed you guys real. Have a wonderful day broski. Crazy this banger came out in 1991
You guys are awesome!
The drummer for Nirvana was Dave Grohl.
After Kurt passed, Dave reinvented himself and created the Foo Fighters.
Play one of their first hits, 'Monkey Wrench'
Teen Spirit dropped like an atomic bomb. Incredible and im glad i experience it as it happened
Jay Z has actually said Kurt and Smells Like Teen Spirit put Hip Hop on pause because of how huge it was and how much it changed the music scene.
this is their second and permanent drummer... Dave Grohl who became Foo Fighters
Remember this coming out when i was 11... different times
That brother knows Nirvana. Respect
The Beatles are not too old…without them you wouldn’t have half the music there is now…Respect Please.
These guys came along and gave all those hair bands a haircut.
These reactors are accepting other Cultures. I respect these men. For Real !!!!
I saw the last concert! They were amazing! RIP Kurt, forever miss you
...our little group has always been and always will...
20 years from now, this will not be the case. Times change. Life changes. Then life ends.. reality.
sorry to be dark.
PS.. you need to watch Weird Al redoing this... SMELLS LIKE NIRVANA>.. ;)
Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake’s producers sampled this song on Magna Carta Holy Trail back in 2013. I would’ve thought they’d known it from that lol. Great that we can share and enjoy music in this age.
this song saved us from bad glam metal and launched us into a much deeper meaning music lyrically by meaning and mood. The best thing that happen to music. 93 TOOL came same time but wasnt grung.
Do you dudes know that the drummer in this band is Dave Grohl who now fronts the band Foo Fighters? He's a supreme musician who can play multiple instruments as well as sing as a front man
I didn't know about the white lighter thing. Makes sense. I have seen a picture of Kurt after he killed himself with all the stuff around him on the floor. Kurt was a very tortured soul, blew his head off with a shot gun I don't think I ever saw him smile. Anyone who would marry Courtney Love has to be a tortured soul. Great music for only 3 in the band. The drummer, Dave Grohl, went on to be in other great bands and is still playing today. When this song first came out no one understood a word Kurt was singing. Check out Weird Al Yankovich. He does a parody of this song called Smells Like Nirvana. Funny. Check out some of Weird Al's other songs. He was a genius at recreating some of the most famous songs from the 80s. He loved Michael Jackson and did a video called 'Fat' off of MJs song Bad and 'Eat It' off MJs song Beat it. Two of my favorites, but did a ton of others. Loved Amish Paradise off of Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise.
You guys are my new favorites!
God. Bless, stay safe
4:27 this whole part made me laugh and it’s passed 1:00am on a school night 😭
Got me bumping my head with yall hell yeah nirvana is a vibe
Dave Grohl is on drums....he's now in Foo Fighters
Hey guys,
Fyi the drummer of Nirvana is the Lead Singer of the Foo fighters ✌️😆❤️
This song was SO POPULAR even Weird Al Yankovich made a parody of it... and he's the KING of parodies. You guys should check out some of his videos as well. 😀
Fun fact,Tony Hawk was in that mosh pit. Now his son and Kurt’s daughter are married.
I still remember the first time I heard this song on much music.
It changed my perspective on music forever.
Not to be dramatic but it was shocking as I’ve never heard anything like that before
We used to jump and bang our heads heavily on this in my freshman year back then.
I was in high school. Nirvana changed everything. We went from 80’s hair bands to this. Rebellious as fuck. Why do you think gen X Looks at your generation and rolls its eyes. You’re our little brothers and sisters. We love you, but you’re gen samples our music for a reason.
His death was all over the news my sophomore year of high school. We watched it on tv during science class.
Nirvana was so huge in the 90’s they knocked Michael Jackson out of the #1 spot on Billboard. MTV played this video every hour 24-7 days a week for months. If you add those views with RUclips views there’s easily 2 billion views.
You guys should definitely react to “you know your right” by nirvana
It's a song about being a high school social outcast when you don't even care about being part of the high school social hierarchy. Kurt thought he could escape all that by fading into the background and not bringing attention to himself. But "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a direct memory of his teen life when he was poor and had to wear girl's deodorant (brand named Teen Spirit), and being bullied for that. It's an anthem for poor unpopular kids who get pointed out for being poor. Someone pointed him out as smelling like girl, and it affected him enough to write this song.
Well said from him back there!
Fun fact😬 Kurt couldn’t afford a left handed guitar so he flipped a right handed one over and played it that way 🙌🤘🤘🙌
I love the way you guys relate certain songs to Guitar Hero lol but if that’s what’s bringing more people to the classics then rock on 🤘
I’m waiting for rock to make a comeback.
You guys NEEEEED to listen to BREED by Nirvana! PLEASE!!
Keep Rockin gentlemen!
The best rock band in the 90s periodt
Never been so annoyed by him stopping the song right at the beginning
these guys are tooooo funnnyyyyyy
DO MORE FROM THIS ALBUM .
THEY WERE ALMOST ALL SINGLES SO THEY ARE ALL √√√√√√√
Im just as blanc . On rap music . You would Lauge at my ignorence. On rap music..,rock on forever brothers
You Kats are on the right track 👏🏽💯
I have the smiley face with X's for eyes tattoo!
It's crazy to me that this is considered "old School" now, but as someone pointed out not to long ago.. iam "middle-aged now!
That middle man is my crush so far. So intelligent.
David Grohl the drummer is leader of Foo fighters today
Dave Grohl lead singer from the foofighters is the drummer in nirvana.
Been seeing lots of black folks reacting to rock music these days.
Time for me to start a channel and being suggested Hip Hop & Rap songs. I know very few. And one of them is Weird Al.
After Kurt"s death; the drummer, Dave Grohl, formed the Foo Fighters.
Y'all make me laugh. I feel like I'm sitting in a chair across the room.
Should do the Foo fighters if you enjoyed this the drummer of Nirvana is the lead singer.
Listen to the sax in Pink Floyd’s Shine on you crazy diamond
Omg! You guys are hilarious. This must've been what my generation sounded like to our parents when we'd talk about "The Doors" or "Zepplin'" (shout out to GEN-X even if no one even realizes we're here😶🌫)
The drummer is Dave Grohl he is the lead singer of the Foo Fighters a band he started after Nirvana
Lol I grew up in Detroit in the 90s early 00s and we had the whole white.lighters are bad luck thing too. It's an ancient urban legend that's been around since at least the early 60s cause my grandma knew about it too. Shits crazy.
"How do you know who Nirvana is?"
The real question is how do you NOT know who Nirvana is?! I'm glad you all enjoyed them.
Because we’re that old
As he said "sorry I'm not cultured":) they knows black music from the 90s as they should.. Still they wanna know more, they appreciate it, enjoy it... Can't really say the same about uncultured white Americans, how much do they wanna know about black music?
B/c they're young, what's wrong with you?
@@veronicajade20 bro, they're still a huge band. Idk anyone who doesn't know who they are and I'm a few years younger then them
@@wmvnotmp4 bro, they're clearly not huge to _everyone_
Loved that phrase at 4:29 "they really used instruments and stuff". It struck me because its quite true. A lot of modern music is programmed.
I know!… I was a teenager in the 90’s so… that just means I’m old LOL
It was pretty funny...Wait until I tell them we used to have our ice delivered by horse and wagon...

@@heather000burton nah, you’re far from old
Honestly, this has been the main complaint among Rockers towards other genres for at least 30 - 35 years
Three minutes of Nirvana and already inspired to start a band, that's awesome. Kurt wanted to inspire people to get into punk rock ethics, start bands, and grow up to destroy this corrupt system.
Daddy
Destroy the system its 1977 and the consumers are about to destroy the system
Instead he joined the 27 year old club
nirvana made me and my friends start a band when we where 14 or 15, we sucked, but had a ton of fun, and two of us indeed became pretty good musicians..
K but he killed himself ruining his daughters system.
Fun Fact: Nirvana's drummer is Dave Grohl, he is the lead singer of the Foo Fighters and (in my opinion) he is one of the best musical talents ever
They should react to The Foo Fighters ‘Pretender’
@@cristywhite484 and Monkey Wrench, and Breakout, and learning to fly
Dave in Hall of Fame twice
He said he can't play drums cuz he can't read music he just repeats stuff from disco bands
