As soon as I found out about this challenge, I was looking forward to what you would be coming up with. Nobody on RUclips can do more with a simple sheet of plywood! Doing all this without a CNC is all the more impressive.
Now that is really good. Have some 30mm plywood given to me from a friend in London that's been put to one side for a while but now after seeing yours, well rocking chair here we come. Another great vid, well done. From sunny North East Coast, England. Cheers Peter.
Dude... great build, and great video! The lines of this really take it to the next level...especially the curve through the lumbar support (or is it lumber support :) ).
Another great one! I am always messing with double sided tape on templates, but I never considered screwing the template down when you’re just going to double up the boards anyway.
Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing the detailed process of building it with this two part series! Your channel is very inspiring, and it gets better and better :-)
This reminds me a lot of someone else who does car audio work on RUclips. His creativity and use of router templates are similar only completely different projects
This rocking chair is bad ass my man. Im a beginner and its a little bit out of my difficulty level but I will want to make it someday. When I have all your badass tools. Thank you for making this video.
I need a new office chair, I like really high backs, I do believe this chair nails it. Thanks so much for the great input. I'll watch the video 100 times more. You have made is seem simple.
Been watching your videos for some time now and I just started commenting on a few of the guys l like to watch. your videos are always awesome and great to watch, I am a full time woodworker and furniture builder and I love what I do, its always nice to see others that are passionate about woodworking as well. each piece you do definitely shows that for sure. thanks again for another sweet video.
Awesome, man! Thanks for checking out my stuff. Just took a look at your website, and you do some really great work! Always cool to hear from people that do similar work, keep it up, man!
Wowsa! Beautiful design skilfully built. I was delighted to see you sell the plans and templates. I'd like to build one for my daughter who is just setting up her first home. Bill in Scotland.
Wow shaun, you knocked or (rocked) it out of the park with this one. I didnt know you could do such a great build with just plywood. And great sense of design on your part. You should be very proud of yourself for this one. I got inspiration for my next build by watching this video. For that i thank you. Keep up the great work. Your coming into your own now with this new format of yours. Congrats bro!!
Nice build!! You guys make me so dang jealous with your toys!! LOL Someday, maybe!!! Right now I'm just sticking to things we want for us I've tried selling things before and had zero luck But I just do it for the fun and relaxation it brings me.
That's really awesome Shaun. One of the best entries I've seen...love the look and design of this chair...could see this in MCM nurseries all over!!! Need to get atomic ranch or dwell to pick this up. Awesome job buddy.
I bought the plans and perhaps I'm technology challenged too. I have two questions: 1. How do I print the templates FULL size? and 2. What's the layout on a 4 x 8 sheet so that one sheet will yield all pieces? Love your manner of presenting, too!
Thanks for buying the plans! There should be an option when printing the PDF versions called "Poster" and that will print the parts on multiple sheets at full size. As for the layout for one sheet, I don't have that in any digital form. When I lay out something like this, I just trace the parts onto the sheet the best I can to maximize what I can get, so parts are kind of all over the place. Hope that helps!
Love it! I think you can have a lot of fun with this design in the future as well, it would be interesting to see it made with different colors of plywood.
Thanks, Jon! I totally agree, I really wanted to use different types of plywood, but wanted to stick with the constraints of the challenge. Definitely will revisit this piece in the future.
Great build and video! Very nice entry for the challenge. Also, I like your format. Really nice balance of entertainment and instruction/demonstration. 👍👍
Really appreciate it! And yeah, I will be at Maker Faire on Friday/Saturday, I can't do the whole weekend unfortunately. Looking forward to meeting people!
Really like this piece, can I suggest maybe a video talking about the thought and design process you go through to create these curves? I would love to re-create this for myself but I am little stumped thinking about the shape of that seat and then the angles of putting it all together. Do you design these out in Sketchup or Fusion first? Even then you need to have great visualization skills.
Thanks, Wayne! I have definitely been thinking about doing a video(s) on my design process. I don't use Sketchup or Fusion, just paper and pencil, then a full-size drawing on MDF. I touched on that a little bit in my template video from a few days ago, but could definitely go more in-depth about it.
Really great design and build. Absolutely love it. Question: If using more than 1 sheet could you make the rockers/legs solid/one piece instead of segmented? Thanks, and you win imo.
Thank you! Really appreciate it! You definitely could make the entire leg portion as one piece if there was no limit on material. I probably still wouldn't just to minimize waste, as the center portion of each rocker couldn't really be used for anything on this piece.
Very nice! If you weren't constrained to 1 sheet of plywood for the challenge, would you consider cutting the base in one piece instead of joining them together from multiple segments? Might save a lot of joining, gluing, and clamping time, and it would have a great look, especially with all the grain lining up. Just spitballing a thought.
Thanks Dan! Yeah, you could definitely do it in one big piece, which would have a nice look. I think beyond the constraints of the challenge, doing it that way would just end up with a lot of waste. Which if you were clever, you could find a use for, but doing it in pieces definitely gives you the most efficient use of material.
After a bone crushing trip and fall involving me, a chihuahua and a rocking chair - all three of us, me, the dog and major parts of the chair were untangled by the paramedics before transport to the emergency room - I find myself in need of a new rocking chair. Going to use your plans, only dumb them down to rank amateur status because that's what I am. Hope it comes out nearly as beautiful as yours.
As soon as I found out about this challenge, I was looking forward to what you would be coming up with. Nobody on RUclips can do more with a simple sheet of plywood! Doing all this without a CNC is all the more impressive.
absolutely the same thing I was thinking!
Really appreciate that! I do love to use plywood!
Game's over. You win!
Haha, thanks man! Everybody has been making such great stuff, it is just fun to be a part of it.
Dude you did a pretty good job yourself 👍
No shock Shaun but your rockin’ Rockler Rocker rocks my socks off, real talk.
That's what I'm talking about.
- BEAUTIFUL piece. GREAT artistry. VERY creative. Thanx 4 sharing.
I spot a CCS shirt! I was born in SLO and lived around there for 20 years. Miss it. I'm loving your work!
Good eye! I went to Cal Poly, and my girlfriend's family used to own CCS. Glad you are enjoying my stuff, thanks for watching!
That music is so perfect for this Rockin Video.....Cant get enough of that chair.
Haha, thanks Dan! Had to keep it rockin'!
I just love your video style, from the camera angles, storytelling, music and humor. Thanks for these awesome projects.
Right on, glad you are enjoying them! Thanks for watching!
This is definitely the coolest one sheet of plywood project I've seen so far. Great job!
Thanks, Mike! Really appreciate that!
Now that is really good. Have some 30mm plywood given to me from a friend in London that's been put to one side for a while but now after seeing yours, well rocking chair here we come. Another great vid, well done. From sunny North East Coast, England. Cheers Peter.
Awesome, glad you will be able to use that plywood! Thanks for watching!
Dude... great build, and great video! The lines of this really take it to the next level...especially the curve through the lumbar support (or is it lumber support :) ).
Thanks, man! I think in this case it is indeed lumber support.
Shaun, your designs are out of hand! You're massively inspiring, thanks for producing this content!
Really appreciate that! I'm always happy to hear when I have inspired someone, as I have been inspired by so many people over the years.
I would love to sit in this chair! Plywood builds are the best, thanks Shaun.

I'd been thinking plywood is not good looking, until I found this channel! Great works, very inspiring!
Awesome! It is always fun to make material like plywood look as beautiful as possible. Thanks for watching!
Awesome piece of work. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent craftsmanship Shaun!
Thanks, David!
Shaun killin' it as usual! Fantastic.
Thanks, man! Appreciate it!
Another great one! I am always messing with double sided tape on templates, but I never considered screwing the template down when you’re just going to double up the boards anyway.
Thanks, Sean! Yeah, that is the best part about doing the laminated plywood pieces, double-sided tape can get pretty annoying.
BOSS WORK!!! Very impressive and without a doubt a work of ART
Really appreciate that! Thank you!

That sounds like a tragic story, but the bright side is you get to make a new chair! Good luck with it and thanks for the support!
Look real good great job.
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
Have you considered making a zero gravity chair recliner?
Maybe someday!
