I think the narrator is Kris (or at least a rapresentation of Kris's thoughts) because the narrator knows about Kris's past and their family (like when checking the picture on the fridge: "It's a picture of you, your mother and your brother", or when checking the wallpaper of the computer in Toriel's classroom at school showing Kris and Asriel dressed for Halloween and the narrator knows it's from 8 years ago). Also, the narrator reacts the same way Kris reacts to stuff (being excited when we find moss for instance) and describes Kris's stuff with very few words (makes sense if you consider that Kris has low regard for themself)

Idea for pacifist route: After you defeat Kris as a secret boss, you gain the ability to go back to the overworld. Since you and they became friends, you gain the option to let Kris choose their actions when you cannot decide. Imagine the moments where Kris ACTUALLY speaks in a textbox, that would definetly be heartwarming.

Having the laugh they should have had. While it can be assumed Kris cares about their family, they mostly seem attached to Asriel. Toriel never questions how distant Kris acts in the game...and since she tells Susie that Kris "does this sometimes" when they're "washing their hands", it's nothing new. They also seemed more ashamed of Asgore than feeling any sympathy for him. Or perhaps anger. I just had a thought. We know Asgore was chief of police once. Probably when Noelle's sister December went missing. I think his failure to find her is why he was fired. He lost the mayor's daughter. Kris may feel some resentment toward him for that. After all, Asgore seems quite surprised to see Kris in chapter one.

Kris could maybe explain what’s happening to them- something like “I’ve been really out of it, sorry guys” or something It could be like a True Pacifist; you’re not hurting Kris because their choices finally matter, and you could help them see things they don’t see (and in turn get them some cool items) and guide them through battle like you already have, while Kris still has their own life

The player doesn't control that. Kris can do whatever they want to the piano, so long as they interact with it as we told them to. Kris CANNOT play the piano. That's why his recent search history has piano tutorials in it.
