  • How to Convert From 110 Volt Plug and Play to 220/240 Volt 50 Amp GFCI TUFF SPA with BalBoa VS Pack Hot Tub...In this Video I will show you in detail Step by Step how to convert a BalBoa VS Pack from 110 volt Plug & Play to 220/240 Volt Hard wire with a GFCI. Now not all packs can be converted...So before you start shut off the breaker or unplug the spa once that is done remove side panel and find the Pack after you locate the Pack remove the cover and read the Schematics on the back side...If you are unsure how to locate the Pack or if it can be converted call the manufacture or the dealer for more info...Once you know for sure you can convert then you can move forward with the process and I hope this Video give you all the answers to help you with the process.
    Tuff spa as well as several other companies use BalBoa VS packs and there product. In my option it is one of the best products on the market and is very user friendly...Alway make sure that if you wire your Hot Tub 220/240 that you use a GFCI with four #6 wires and a spa disconnect no closer then 5 feet and no lower then 36 inches and in the line of sight of the Hot Tub. If you need help with wiring a disconnect you can check out my other videos on that topic.

    There a sticker that came with my unit that says it requires a 50 amp 220 circuit and a 20 amp 120 circuit. Based on your video It sounds like you can use one or the other but not both. I certainly don’t see any connections for two independent circuits

    I have an older Hot Springs Jetsetter that I'm converting to 220/240v. I have the new wiring in place but do I need to change the dip switch settings? The wiring to the terminal block looks to be from the breaker to go to black wire to #2 white wire to #5 and ground to ground bar. Where does the red wire go? Is there any white wire to remove as you've shown on the balboa?

    Great video. We converted ours last year. So nice to have the heat on high but ever since the conversion we have been encountering a low flow/dry code when running on low. Super bummer to not have it to heat at all times but nice to be hot with the jets on. Any idea if you need to upgrade your pump when doing a conversion on a Dream Maker?

    Tomorrow I plan on restarting persistent memory j43 and mirroring the switch settings in your video any other pointers?

    I have a question on wiring a 3 wire 220v jacuzzi to a gfi disconnect. What do you do about no neutral between tub & gfi disconnect breaker. I understand I need to have the disconnect regardless if 3 or 4 wire but confused on the hook up at disconnect. Can you please shed some light on the subject for me.
    Thanks. Love your videos..

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  2 года назад

      You put the GFCI in the main panel and run the 2 hots the neutral and the ground to the sub panel ... from the sub panel to the hot tub you would run the 2 hots and the ground...That will pass code. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    to clarify, are you running a #6 wire as a ground too? about the 4:55 mark you state 4 #6 wires.... I assumed you could ground with normal bare copper wire. so three #6's and a copper ground. that right?

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Год назад

      NO...I alway run #6 wire on all of the wires from the Sub panel to the Spa....Sometime I have to work on Spas that have 6/3 and it just causes problems( Those are my spa owners that have the most service calls) If you are a home owner that has 6/3 for your wiring and you are not having trouble...Its just a matter of time and most spa techs over look what type of wiring is being used in a Spa ...Hope this Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    None of these TuffSpa YT videos show the best way to bring the 220V cable into spa from outside since TuffSpa does not provide a knockout or access

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Год назад

      Well I've been doing this for years and have never done two that were alike. As far as the best way to bring the 220 to the tub there really is not a wrong way. I always set the tub on the ground and then figure out the placement of the stairs and what seats I like best as to what I will be looking at in the tub while soaking (You never place the tub as to were the electric is coming out at....Place the tub on the ground then wire it accordingly) As far as knock outs 1 inch hole saw will do the trick.
      And for the record I do have a video that shows how to cut a hole in a Tuff Spa and wire it.

    Great video! In order to convert from 110v to 220v, with this balboa pack, does the motor have to be dual voltage? I have an older hot tub (Great Lakes) with a Balboa Pack and I want to replace the Sta-Rite 230v motor. I want to run 110 volts to the tub. Would I need to replace it with a dual voltage motor in order for this 110/220 swap to work, or will this technique work with just a 230v motor only?

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  2 года назад +1

      You have to have a pack that is able to run both ways 110 or 220 volt. you will have to have a motor that is 110 volt and there are some wires that need to be moved in the pack as wells one DIP switch. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    • @spaman5440

      The only way to convert is if the motor is a 110 motor if it is a 220 volt motor it will not work. As far as the heater goes..It needs to be a 1.0 / 4.0 heating element for the best performance.. Ive seen it done other way but it doesn't work right in my opinion. Thank for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
