Well, not that easy. Stormtroopers would win in vast majority of environments and situations. When in advantage they would be victorious like 9 out of 10 or almost 10 out of10 situations, however when in disadvantage they still could be difficult opponent winning like 3 out of 10 engagments. Moreover Stormtroopers got plenty of specialized troops that could be used when realizing nontypical task. Rebels were perfectly aware of it and they did great job in allocating available resources and personel in such a way that they in certain situations they could gain some strategic advantage, because they could not won the war through simple attrition. Competent Rebel commander would be simply avoiding any direct confrontation looking for opportunity instead - a situtation when risking direct engagment could potentially provide some strategic lever.
Am I the only one who wants to see a movie displaying the full might of the empire? Like a movie where, for once, the good guys don't win and stormtroopers aren't just target practice for the rebels. the second half of rogue one kinda got close to it but i would definitely love a movie focused on the empire, maybe about the transition from the clone wars to the civil war

People really undersell the ewoks and the conditions of that battle. There were hundreds of them along with a team of rebel commandos against like 40 troops at most.
This isn't totally accurate actually. The US forces caused 2 million casualties for the north Vietnamese and Vietcong, while sustaining ~75,000 casualties themselves. The US and South Vietnam won the war in terms of numbers, the North and the communists won the objective.

I wouldn't really put too much focus on the weapons. Stormtroopers, having a proper military infrastructure behind them, had a much easier time picking different weapons depending on their missions. Whereas I imagined the rebels hardly had a standardized weapon because of their guerilla style, and simply used whatever they had on hand. Which meant that a rebel could come onto the battlefield with everything from a puny low powered blaster to an outlawed disruptor rifle bought from a crime syndicate, lol

Also, it's kind of funny that the E-11's closest analogue is an M16 or similar rifle while the A280 is more of a "Space AK". Again, the Rebels are supposed to be the "Good Guys".
the rebels didn't force the kids to fight, it was their own choice. and guerrilla tactics are necessary for any resistance movement to fight against a larger better trained army.

It would be more expensive to camouflage the stormtroopers. The empire would rather have more stormtroopers then have less with camouflage plus stormtroopers aren't always stationed to one place they move around so there would be no point in spending money on high quality paint if they couldn't use it after one battle because the climate and planet they go to fight on next is different.

I have a stormtrooper helmet and it is very hard to see in it , although it's much different went talking about it in real life then in a fictional universe :) But the phase 1 clone troopers have the best view of them all XD

The storm troopers slaughtering the rebels on the Tantive IV were the 501st clones if we assume they were the ones always with Vader. Same for on the battle of Hoth. If Wookieepedia is to be believed. This does not bode well for the actual capacity of non-clone storm troopers. EDIT: This isn't true. However citing the 501st as evidence that grunt storm troopers aren't stupid is like pointing to the absolute best special forces to claim the common soldiers are elites.
Stormtroopers use a wide variety of weapons, including those more suited for longer range engagements I believe, that and having incomparably better training would give them the advantage in virtually any environment.
The Stormtroopers also receive a very taff training on Carida. A planet with many different environments and a higher gravity which strenghts their muscles.
Honestly I could see the rebels having a fair chance in certain urban environments with the use of guerrilla tactics, especially if it's a high rising city like Coruscant where they would have plenty of alleys and high spots to use

The storm troopers are "stupid" in Star Wars rebels miss because there are only about 5 main characters in any engagement seen on the show so far. If it was a war time setting such as in the clone wars, there would be more larger battles and more rebels would be seen being killed. That's what I believe about the show

Yeah, the Empire dominates in larger battles. The Empire was geared more toward open warfare on the Clone Wars' Scale. Star destroyers had many ship-to-ship and orbital bombardment weaponry. TIE Fighters were mostly anti-starfighter ships. And the stormtrooper's numbers, training and equipment were best suited for complete warfare. However the rebels mainly fought a guerrilla war. The rebels ship's had hyperdrives to do hit & runs and the soldiers focused on ambushing. With Vietnam as proof, to take down a bigger and more advanced enemy, use guerrilla warfare.

I think that the empire would lose some battles in close quarter combat because the rebel army had a variation of weapons. An example would be the DL 44 ( heavy blaster pistol ) ect.

The IoM required specialised ships and virus bombs for exterminatus. The galactic empire at its height owned an entire galaxy, the IoM had half a galaxy at best.

Empire doesn't stand a chance. The Imperium of Man has boarding actions that would ruin a Star Destroyer, Space Marines are basically pocket Rancors with Fully Automatic Grenade Launchers, and the Imperial Guard would demolish the Empire on the ground.
If rebels ever found themselves in a straight shootout with Stormtroopers, something had gone badly wrong. They were neither trained nor equipped to handle conventional engagements. Asymmetric warfare was more their MO.
The Empire adapted to their disadvantage at long range. So they trained specialized stormtroopers just for that, a full squad of those specialized stormtroopers could have an even higher chance to win against the rebels.
The thing about this VS video is that it makes the assumption that the STs and the rebels would ONLY be using there most symbolic equipment in a infantry engagement. The stormtroopers and rebels have a multitude of different weapons and equipment to combat threats at the infantry level, the DLT-19, Thermal grenades, the EE-3, ECT, these were just a few of the kinds of weapons that STs used alongside there standard E-11 rifle as they were meant to fill the roles it couldn't, and the rebels would have similar kinds of weapons that do the same thing for the 280, some of those weapons would also consist of stolen imperial weaponry. All in all this video is good, but not thorough to give us a accurate idea of how a firefight between rebels and stormtroopers would look like or turn out.

Not retreating or not refusing orders isn't the same as good morale. They might have followed orders, but been less willing to take risks, push on, or focus on the battlefield.
Awesome video, would be cool to see a vehicle comparison like this. Maybe storm-trooper armor sticks out so much so they don't have to worry about friendly fire since their targeting system could identify the armor. This way they can shoot at anything that moves. Also camouflage is useless against thermal so sticking out doesn't matter.

Not that's not the right answer and I'll tell you why: If they wanted the good guys to win, why did George Lucas wanted an alternate ending where luke would put on vaders helmet saying "now I am vader" with a dark ending. armour is basically a straight jacket and to make matters worse the helmet has two stupid protrusions around the chin so again more restricted movement. lack of mobility is a death sentence to infantry. And offers not protection if it can’t stop a blaster with all those cons then it totally useless.
If I remember, the protrusions contain coms equipment and breathing apparatus when in a different/lack of atmosphere. The armor was useful, as it forced the rebels into equipping themselves with cumbersome (and expensive) blasters. It also provides a strong psycological buff, making the troopers feel stronger.
@@paulh.9526 Yes, the helmets had certain equipment installed (like rebreathers and such) but they also limit fields of vision - not a huge problem when fighting on a starship or in a building (where the quarters are fairly tight and you really only need focus on what's in front of you), but in conditions like street fighting or wilderness combat (where there are more opportunities for the opposition to make flanking attacks) that can be quite a disadvantage. And the overall effectiveness of one's armor is reduced when the enemy has weapons capable of punching through it - yes, these imposed some logistical difficulties on the Rebel forces but the disadvantage incurred by them still doesn't outweigh the benefits of the heavy weapons.
thats what ita based on the rebel A295 looks like an ar 15 and the blaster rifle for the rebels in battlefont 2 and 1 is based off a m16 and during the battle of hoth the used the A295 not the A280 a sorta mistake in the video
The Rebels didn’t necessarily have better pilots. They had a few really good pilots, but they had better starfighters. The Imperial pilots had proper training, but they didn’t get as much recognition due to the fact that the Imperials didn’t promote individuality, so the aces they did have didn’t get much attention. But they did get to fly TIE Defenders, so that’s a plus.
The quality of pilots is up for debate, but the Rebellion certain had better quality starfighters as they often came equipped with shields and hyperdrive units most Imperial starfighters had no shielding and relied upon capital ships for inter-stellar transport (with some notable exceptions like the TIE-defender - which didn't really see wide use in the conflict).
We need Shocktroopers, Shadow Troopers, all phases of Darktrooper, Purgetroopers, Aquatroopers, Magma Troopers, Flametroopers (Imperial), Novatroopers, Navy Troopers, Army Troopers, Lavatroopers, Mudtroopers, and Imperial technicians in Battlefront 2 as troop classes and skins.
I think you're somewhat off the mark in your assessment. You're assuming that the Rebels would engage the Stormtroopers in a way that plays to the Stormtrooper's advantages. That's not how the insurgent force works. The battles on Hoth and the Tantive IV are poor examples of Stormtrooper vs. Rebel forces as they were fought under conditions under which no insurgent force would expect to survive. Notice how in both situations the main focus of the Rebels was to escape the situation and not to try to overpower the Imperial forces. Any insurgent force is going to focus on fighting techniques which allow them to engage their opponent with a minimal chance of allowing that opponent to fully press their advantages in tech and training. If Stormtrooper weaponry requires them to close to close range, by all means have the group they are attacking retreat while another group farther back continues to utilize long range weaponry. The Rebels have the advantage of being able to have the initiative in a battle as long as they aren't cornered. The Empire telegraphs their movements gifting the Rebels with both the advantage of choosing the time and place for the engagement as well as being able to set whatever traps or ambushes they are able to muster to maximize their fighting strength. In any environment besides the cramped quarters inside a ship, you can bet that the Rebels would loosely disperse in order to deny the Empire the headlong engagement that it desired and instead randomly skirmish them from multiple directions in order to keep the Imperial leadership off balance when issuing commands. Endor is the best example of this. It wasn't Ewok strength that won the day, it was the fact that both the Rebels and Ewoks were constantly flanking the Stormtroopers, keeping them confused, and springing ambushes to inflict casualties while denying the Empire the chance to respond. Absent these tactics and initiative, Endor likely would have gone similarly to the battle between the Gungans and the Droid army where the less technological force was overwhelmed and on the verge of surrender absent miraculous deus ex machina. In a battle in an urban environment, the Rebels would enjoy a significant advantage over the Stormtroopers. This is because cities provide all the advantages of jungle combat in addition to the advantages of fighting in the city itself. Every window can be a sniper nest, every wall a point of cover and every closed door a potential ambush. If the Rebels were operating inside this city, it's nearly certain that the civilian populace is sympathetic to them. Now instead of having to deal with hurled rocks, the Stormtroopers will be on the receiving end of whatever blaster fire the populace can muster while the Rebels will merely be receiving intelligence reports from the many eyes and ears around the area. Finally, I have to ask if there are any canonical sources to your assertion that Stormtrooper armor would frequently merely disable the wearer rather than killing them. The doctrine of the Empire and the Sith promotes the disposable nature of underlings be they soldiers, admirals, or apprentices. TIE pilots are expected to be engulfed in the fireball of their fragile craft and nobody protests when a fleet officer is telekinetically strangled for a tactical error. Yet somehow the faceless fighters that are trained to be blindly loyal and ready to die for their leader are given every resource to survive an engagement if hit? The Empire knows that there's 100 more Stormtroopers ready to replace every 1 killed. Why spend the money to protect those that, according to Sith philosophy, were too foolish or weak to avoid being hit in the first place? The scenes in Rebels showing Stormtroopers moving after having been shot prove nothing as a being fatally shot is not akin to having a light switch turned off. Some kind of agonal movement is frequently seen when somebody is shot in the torso. I've seen this claim made on many messages on RUclips and would really like to know whether it's backed up by something in universe or not.
So basicly each faction would win in the situation they are trained and equipped for... makes sense.

I wouldn't really put too much focus on the weapons.
Stormtroopers, having a proper military infrastructure behind them, had a much easier time picking different weapons depending on their missions.
Whereas I imagined the rebels hardly had a standardized weapon because of their guerilla style, and simply used whatever they had on hand.
Which meant that a rebel could come onto the battlefield with everything from a puny low powered blaster to an outlawed disruptor rifle bought from a crime syndicate, lol

Are we just going to glance over the fact that the Rebel Alliance used both terror attacks against the Imperials AND used child soldiers? These are supposed to be the "good guys"? Also, it's kind of funny that the E-11's closest analogue is an M16 or similar rifle while the A280 is more of a "Space AK". Again, the Rebels are supposed to be the "Good Guys".

It would be more expensive to camouflage the stormtroopers. The empire would rather have more stormtroopers then have less with camouflage plus stormtroopers aren't always stationed to one place they move around so there would be no point in spending money on high quality paint if they couldn't use it after one battle because the climate and planet they go to fight on next is different.

The storm troopers slaughtering the rebels on the Tantive IV were the 501st clones if we assume they were the ones always with Vader. Same for on the battle of Hoth. If Wookieepedia is to be believed.
This does not bode well for the actual capacity of non-clone storm troopers.

Honestly I could see the rebels having a fair chance in certain urban environments with the use of guerrilla tactics, especially if it's a high rising city like Coruscant where they would have plenty of alleys and high spots to use

The storm troopers are "stupid" in Star Wars rebels miss because there are only about 5 main characters in any engagement seen on the show so far. If it was a war time setting such as in the clone wars, there would be more larger battles and more rebels would be seen being killed. That's what I believe about the show

Yeah, the Empire dominates in larger battles. The Empire was geared more toward open warfare on the Clone Wars' Scale. Star destroyers had many ship-to-ship and orbital bombardment weaponry. TIE Fighters were mostly anti-starfighter ships. And the stormtrooper's numbers, training and equipment were best suited for complete warfare. However the rebels mainly fought a guerrilla war. The rebels ship's had hyperdrives to do hit & runs and the soldiers focused on ambushing. With Vietnam as proof, to take down a bigger and more advanced enemy, use guerrilla warfare.

I think that the empire would lose some battles in close quarter combat because the rebel army had a variation of weapons. An example would be the DL 44 ( heavy blaster pistol ) ect.

The IoM required specialised ships and virus bombs for exterminatus. The galactic empire at its height owned an entire galaxy, the IoM had half a galaxy at best.

Empire doesn't stand a chance. The Imperium of Man has boarding actions that would ruin a Star Destroyer, Space Marines are basically pocket Rancors with Fully Automatic Grenade Launchers, and the Imperial Guard would demolish the Empire on the ground.

The Empire adapted to their disadvantage at long range. So they trained specialized stormtroopers just for that, a full squad of those specialized stormtroopers could have an even higher chance to win against the rebels.

The thing about this VS video is that it makes the assumption that the STs and the rebels would ONLY be using there most symbolic equipment in a infantry engagement. The stormtroopers and rebels have a multitude of different weapons and equipment to combat threats at the infantry level, the DLT-19, Thermal grenades, the EE-3, ECT, these were just a few of the kinds of weapons that STs used alongside there standard E-11 rifle as they were meant to fill the roles it couldn't, and the rebels would have similar kinds of weapons that do the same thing for the 280, some of those weapons would also consist of stolen imperial weaponry. All in all this video is good, but not thorough to give us a accurate idea of how a firefight between rebels and stormtroopers would look like or turn out.
The storm troopers should have been waaaay more professional, and their armor should be able to withstand more damadge.

Maybe storm-trooper armor sticks out so much so they don't have to worry about friendly fire since their targeting system could identify the armor. This way they can shoot at anything that moves. Also camouflage is useless against thermal so sticking out doesn't matter.

As for the bit about the Rebel Alliance recruiting young - sure, it's morally offensive but it makes sense. Those who wish to be freed from their chains, their bonds of slavery will fight to do this once they are old enough to make that decision for themselves, and naturally, training will be offered to them to make it happen. This is somewhat different to places like the laughable 'democratic' republic of congo where child soldiers are conscripted by simply abducting them and then forcing them to be bullet fodder, with their commanders not caring if they live or die.
We honor all those brave men and women that sacrifice their life and protect us from the terrorist scum, and may the dead watch over us in their eternal vigil. Glory to the Empire!!!

I think the wiki made mention of rebel commandos being there as well.
armour is basically a straight jacket and to make matters worse the helmet has two stupid protrusions around the chin so again more restricted movement. lack of mobility is a death sentence to infantry. And offers not protection if it can’t stop a blaster with all those cons then it totally useless.
If I remember, the protrusions contain coms equipment and breathing apparatus when in a different/lack of atmosphere.
The armor was useful, as it forced the rebels into equipping themselves with cumbersome (and expensive) blasters. It also provides a strong psycological buff, making the troopers feel stronger.
@@paulh.9526 Yes, the helmets had certain equipment installed (like rebreathers and such) but they also limit fields of vision - not a huge problem when fighting on a starship or in a building (where the quarters are fairly tight and you really only need focus on what's in front of you), but in conditions like street fighting or wilderness combat (where there are more opportunities for the opposition to make flanking attacks) that can be quite a disadvantage.
And the overall effectiveness of one's armor is reduced when the enemy has weapons capable of punching through it - yes, these imposed some logistical difficulties on the Rebel forces but the disadvantage incurred by them still doesn't outweigh the benefits of the heavy weapons.

Say what you want about ground troops, rebels had better pilots and fighters. Note how almost all major rebel battles were won in space or in the sky.

The Rebels didn’t necessarily have better pilots. They had a few really good pilots, but they had better starfighters. The Imperial pilots had proper training, but they didn’t get as much recognition due to the fact that the Imperials didn’t promote individuality, so the aces they did have didn’t get much attention. But they did get to fly TIE Defenders, so that’s a plus.
The quality of pilots is up for debate, but the Rebellion certain had better quality starfighters as they often came equipped with shields and hyperdrive units most Imperial starfighters had no shielding and relied upon capital ships for inter-stellar transport (with some notable exceptions like the TIE-defender - which didn't really see wide use in the conflict).

I think you're somewhat off the mark in your assessment. You're assuming that the Rebels would engage the Stormtroopers in a way that plays to the Stormtrooper's advantages. That's not how the insurgent force works.
The battles on Hoth and the Tantive IV are poor examples of Stormtrooper vs. Rebel forces as they were fought under conditions under which no insurgent force would expect to survive. Notice how in both situations the main focus of the Rebels was to escape the situation and not to try to overpower the Imperial forces.
Any insurgent force is going to focus on fighting techniques which allow them to engage their opponent with a minimal chance of allowing that opponent to fully press their advantages in tech and training. If Stormtrooper weaponry requires them to close to close range, by all means have the group they are attacking retreat while another group farther back continues to utilize long range weaponry.
The Rebels have the advantage of being able to have the initiative in a battle as long as they aren't cornered. The Empire telegraphs their movements gifting the Rebels with both the advantage of choosing the time and place for the engagement as well as being able to set whatever traps or ambushes they are able to muster to maximize their fighting strength.
In any environment besides the cramped quarters inside a ship, you can bet that the Rebels would loosely disperse in order to deny the Empire the headlong engagement that it desired and instead randomly skirmish them from multiple directions in order to keep the Imperial leadership off balance when issuing commands.
Endor is the best example of this. It wasn't Ewok strength that won the day, it was the fact that both the Rebels and Ewoks were constantly flanking the Stormtroopers, keeping them confused, and springing ambushes to inflict casualties while denying the Empire the chance to respond. Absent these tactics and initiative, Endor likely would have gone similarly to the battle between the Gungans and the Droid army where the less technological force was overwhelmed and on the verge of surrender absent miraculous deus ex machina.
In a battle in an urban environment, the Rebels would enjoy a significant advantage over the Stormtroopers. This is because cities provide all the advantages of jungle combat in addition to the advantages of fighting in the city itself. Every window can be a sniper nest, every wall a point of cover and every closed door a potential ambush. If the Rebels were operating inside this city, it's nearly certain that the civilian populace is sympathetic to them. Now instead of having to deal with hurled rocks, the Stormtroopers will be on the receiving end of whatever blaster fire the populace can muster while the Rebels will merely be receiving intelligence reports from the many eyes and ears around the area.
Finally, I have to ask if there are any canonical sources to your assertion that Stormtrooper armor would frequently merely disable the wearer rather than killing them. The doctrine of the Empire and the Sith promotes the disposable nature of underlings be they soldiers, admirals, or apprentices. TIE pilots are expected to be engulfed in the fireball of their fragile craft and nobody protests when a fleet officer is telekinetically strangled for a tactical error. Yet somehow the faceless fighters that are trained to be blindly loyal and ready to die for their leader are given every resource to survive an engagement if hit?
The Empire knows that there's 100 more Stormtroopers ready to replace every 1 killed. Why spend the money to protect those that, according to Sith philosophy, were too foolish or weak to avoid being hit in the first place? The scenes in Rebels showing Stormtroopers moving after having been shot prove nothing as a being fatally shot is not akin to having a light switch turned off. Some kind of agonal movement is frequently seen when somebody is shot in the torso.
I've seen this claim made on many messages on RUclips and would really like to know whether it's backed up by something in universe or not.
