Hahaha "not for kids at $40" that part!!! Can't wait for mine to come. I always wanted this figure from the show. Hopefully they'll give us the 3 other horsemen to go along with ArcAngel.
Me and Dave are on the same page about the lack of paint details on retros. He’s too expensive to not add some detailing. This kinda thing, combined with the lack of window, is why 23 is my last year actively collecting Marvel Legends. They’re pissin on my leg and telling me it’s raining 🌧
Marvel Select big figures are quite massive. The Select Apocalypse is 8.5” tall, the Marvel Legends Apocalypse buck is just over 8” tall. It’s not quite the ML Anniversary Hulk versus DST Immortal Hulk disparity, but the DST Apocalypse- based on the released measurements- will be noticeably larger than the ML.
I like it. I understand what he's saying about this figure, price, wash, etc. But to me it looks better than the select. The select headsculpt is not the way apocalypse looks in my minds eye and to me that's worse than anything that was pointed out with this figure. As for price, I'll just wait for it to go on sale.
Eh good review but I actually prefer the color scheme on this rather than the MS. This one goes with the Animated Series better imo. As a general apocalypse the MS is good but fitting with the Animated series not so good.
I think the plain plastic looks fine, apocalypse only had the two colours on his body. The major flaw with this figure is the little rectangular shape of skin on the top of his head on one of my heads it sits too high and exposes a strip of blue plastic. Fortunately my screaming head doesn't have this issue but look out for it if you get one
I gotta say. Everyone complaining about the lack of shading are pretty aware that it’s not apart of the VHS line. Get him while you can because, he’s not gonna be peg warming
So I just grabbed this figure about 3 weeks ago as I am new to the hobby. I agree he is a blend of comic book/real face and animated (in the body). I like the combination as he can be used for either or in somebody's set.
I have to say I think this is the best Apocalypse Hasbro has done so far!! I absolutely love this guy! Though I think you’re right about the paint! I think that about all Marvel legends these days! They still don’t touch the way Toybiz used to paint their figs!
I'm actually fine with the paint because it does represent the early version in the animated series. However, the figure absolutely needed new hands to have the bars on them then. I would have taken those over the new gun, but both should have happened for the money.
Wait... those blast effects are from the recent Transformers trilogy (Siege, Earth Rise, and Kingdom). I wonder if the canon was repurposed from that line to this?
Given the animated colors, but the retro packaging, I have a hypothesis. This was meant to be a VHS release, but when sales of that line didn't quite hit like retro packaging releases are, they nixed the cel shading and put him on a card. Would go a long way towards explaining why there's so much less paint and detail on the body, plus the TV show colors vs the OG figure's blue. The Beast release is weird too. Makes me think that the VHS line isn't long for this world.
@@Tarriq Storm is trash. Her head weighs more than her body and her gummy legs make her very hard to keep standing. She should've been pin less. Her hair needed to be hollow for balancing.
Thanks for the review David. I truly appreciate your effort. Although not comparable, I believe my money is best spent on the MS version when it comes out. I highly recommend that people mainly stop trusting that "Hasbro will make better things later", because they have been making worse things and worse versions in so many cases now. 100% agree with your criticisms. I was on the fence and had pre-ordered it because I don't have the BAF version. The day I secured my pre-order for the Select Apocalypse I cancelled this pre-order. And after your review and one other, I am fully satisfied with that decision. It's got one leg in Retro/Legends and one leg in VHS Cell Shaded. And it just doesn't work for me. The lack of paint details from the neck down is just lazy and makes it look like cheap plastic. And these ain't cheap! Happy for those that like him and want him for their collection, but it's a pass for me. Honest reviews like this really help people like me decide what's worth the $$$ in my collection.
I really don’t know if Legends are worth it anymore. Just like the Knull/Venom pack. Figures are ok but no way worth the price. But hey that’s fine just have to pick and choose.
I hope we get this exact figure again but in blue/dark blue and with shading to represent the classic comic appearance. It's basically just how he looked in early comic appearances, but purple.
@@cdubbart MS has really improved in articulation from their Hulk to their Titanium Man and now I have great hope this one will move great too. Legends isn't always amazing articulation, figures such as Thanos or Rhino are pretty immobile so I'm not sure that this would really make a difference to pick over. The paint, sculpt, size and price alone should really carry the Marvel Select.
Kinda disappointing. I did say that I would probably get him for that cartoon look in the display, but damn does the Select looks a bit better. Honestly. But I really like the arm gun. It's difficult, I'm still thinking and deciding.
I got this Apocalypse on pre-order, and i just bought every animated X-men figure that was available to purchase....Morph, Storm, Jean Grey, Jubilee, Wolverine, Mr. Sinister. My plan is start an animated section of my collection...this Apocalypse, all the cell shaded figures (all x-men including the amazing friends iceman, Spiderman and Venom). Even though the Apocalypse isn't cell shaded, i feel like he goes better with the animated figures because of his colors. He's just does not have cell shading.
"NO, Mommy, I don't want to dance on stage!“ I burst out laughing. Great review. Totally torn on this fig. Want it because it fits with the animated series. Don't want it because of all the reasons you pointed out.
Totally torn, too. Like it and hate it. I paid £45.99 for this (!!!!). I really do like the swap parts (heads, hands and gauntlet/cannon with effects) as these are new, and the basic figure is cool. BUT...the paintwork here is unforgivable, cheap and shoddy. The heads do not match the body: these are vaguely metallised and have a decent paintwash, but are a completely different shade of blue. If you want a parts pack for the BAF Apocalypse, this is your guy. But overall, this looks like they stopped making an effort after the heads were done. This is not 'animated style' or 'retro', it's a cheap & nasty repaint of a cool BAF, and Hasbro just couldn't be bothered to match head and body. But hey, this was only nearly £50, so what do we expect. So, a spot on review from you, my friend. I honestly can't say that I 100% regret buying this, but it is a brutal screw job.
I pre-ordered but canceled. Not worth the price. I might pick him up on clearance. At least they didn't ruin the figure with that half-assed fake "cel shading". What a disgrace the animated line is, I can't believe they are so terrible. If I get more space, I'll shell out for the Mondo line. The Hasbro versions just aren't even worth the shelf space, let alone the money.
I prefer the comic book color instead. Okay for $30 figure, but not $40 price tag. Interesting size comparison. Way bigger than Wolverine but looks like a dwarf next to Hulk? Is that accurate? And depending on the artists, I thought he might to more bulkier?
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour hahha fair lol the retro is just lighter in color, and something with the arms changed. I’m torn! Hahaha I guess the cheaper is better in this scenario!
Totally agree about the paint. This seems to be a trend on recent legends. RHINO and Lizard have amazing head sculpts with great details, but the rest of the figs are just basic.
Yeeeah, this is the main reason why I decided to go with that select Apocalypse as well as this one. The color scheme is spot on, but… the colors are too bright for me. They need a bit of a wash & some desaturation. Even in the cartoon, there are a lot of scenes where he’s seen at night or the colors are desaturated or grayed down. Even the colors being darker & not as vibrant would make this a more versatile Apocalypse for any display.
This is supposed to be a retro version and it isn't... it's a cartoon version, that and the lack of paint and increassed price points are what's wrong with this ML. I agree with your critics David, thanks for the review.
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour most definitely and I can have my rogue, Storm, arc angel action figures displayed around him, like there there flying (including jean grey as well) 😂.
Hey Hasbro, I cancelled my pre-order because of David's review here, so instead of doing the decent thing and putting in more attractive paint work and sculpting into your figures offered at more reasonable prices (like the recent past and just a few years ago even), you'll probably want to take the much easier road and punish David for pointing out the facts to the people, simply by continuing to ignore him almost entirely. Haha, it would've been so heroic and awesome and even increased Hasbro's public image and trust to give a preview of a figure to a reviewer who in all honesty tells it how it is. People try to sell this for triple the price or more in its older form though, and it looks a whole lot better in all forms prior to this when prices are considered. The argument here would be paying 2 or 3 times the price for a better one, getting this one, maybe getting and customizing and improving this one, letting this one go, letting them all go. The unpainted look, seems pretty bad to me, and when compared to Rhino, Rhino seemed much more fancy overall. For a bunch of billionaires (and that is how they got there), Hasbro seem like a rude, offensive bunch of cheap bastahs. Nah, eff you Hasbro, I can skip having an Apocalypse and save what will come to 60 or 70 bucks or more for me here in Canada ordering from BBTS or Amazon, because it would just be a sad disappointment seeing this around, just like Hobgoblin, which now I got the old one and never got the new one which is so plain and bad looking for the price of 40 or more for me here. This is about what I want to see around here, I'd basically just be paying for the head sculpts since the rest bothers me a lot, even that rubbery belt that will maybe eventually become permanently distorted. Alright.
They did Rhino backwards though. They put darker colors on the areas that should be highlights. Had to take off all the paint, wash and air brush it to look correct.
Omg you're right! What the heck is wrong with them! I noticed the new Scorpion has a different color torso or abdomen and upper thighs than the rest too, and I cancelled it. Cam you email me a picture of your Rhino re-paint for me to study and also the specific technique, steps, and paint you used? I'm looking to get into customizing figures also so I'd love to see all your work and what you've learned and figured out so far from tutorials and trial and error you may have experienced. theartismagistra at the g sort of mail is my address if you know which I mean. I like your style bro you’re very positive and happy vibed guy . Dont mind plz , I guess u should shave ur hair off you will look way younger and more badass that way .
Lol thanks dude. I’m tempted!
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour btw love your videos mate. Lots of positivity and good vibes Stay this way stay blessed . Have subscribed few months ago
personally i cancelled my preorder for this when marvel select showed their apocalypse. it looks more impressive to me especially for 30$
Where I come from “GOING FULL HOG” is definitely a thing..
Hasbro getting cocky here, I almost had enough
And i agree on all the points you stated
That’s i think all people in mind right now
If this continues, NECA, MCF, SUPER7 will strive take the high spot
Dude, not defending Hasbro but Super7 has the worst value in the toy game lol. Great figures but horrendously overpriced. They should be embarrassed about chafing those prices for figures like Sorcerer Mickey
@@juansanchez209 not all like that ,
even though that’s still debatable and definitely your opinion,
In one case they still provide many alt heads, hands and weapons
Kinda hoping they re release this figure with a more comic based look, with the dark blue and white
With the same accessories
Basically, this exact figure, worh a repaint. Then I’ll buy it even for the $40
This is my go to for the BEST and HONEST reviews of these Legends.
Appreciate you Dave 👍 helping us save our $$ on mediocre repaints from Ha$bro. Cheers DMB 🍻😏
There's no price on Honesty, and this was an honest review about how you feel.your not bigging it up for the sake of it and lately im seeing more honest figure reviews from other RUclipsrs and weather I agree or not is irrelevant to the reviewers honesty.Keep it up.
Which Hulk is that?
Apocalypse 40 dollars??
Robbie Reyes left the comments section.
🚗 🔥 🔥 🔥
That sismpsons skit though lol 😂 priceless
Why is his head a different blue to his shoulders? Just using the BAF head paint?
I hope we get this exact figure again but in blue/dark blue and with shading to represent the classic comic appearance. It's basically just how he looked in early comic appearances, but purple.
Welcome to Hasbro they repaint everything :)
If I buy him I will probably take a sharpie and add cell shading although that’s sad he have to do that 😢
That could make a god improvement
$10 more than the Select and the Select looks superior imo. That's the one to put on the shelf.
I like the select colors & paint better, but the articulation & head sculpts on the ML are superior to me.
@@ingloriousmax the face on the select ruins it. Just can't get past that strange face.
@@jonathandevereaux298 But the cheap looking plastic for this Legends Apocalypse doesn't? 0 paint that will be $40, thanks.
Skip for me. Getting the select anyway. This should have been a cell shaded figure in vhs packaging.
Yeah I get that
He's also in X-Men vs street fighter game
Kinda disappointing. I did say that I would probably get him for that cartoon look in the display, but damn does the Select looks a bit better. Honestly. But I really like the arm gun. It's difficult, I'm still thinking and deciding.
I'm getting 2 Select 1 Of this because I only have the AOA version and not the old build a figure which I think looked better but is less affordable.
Definitely better with the animated line!
My favorite character
"NO, Mommy, I don't want to dance on stage!“ I burst out laughing. Great review. Totally torn on this fig. Want it because it fits with the animated series. Don't want it because of all the reasons you pointed out.
Hey glad you enjoyed the reviews brother!
So now I wonder if we will get the VHS cel shaded version and packaging which will be a repaint of this or is this what we're getting now?
Man it's such a shame, Hasbro were so close to a good figure!
👍👍👍
I'll wait for the select version
Full boar, I believe you mean ;)
Bro thats an awesome Apocalypse impression
I pre-ordered but canceled. Not worth the price. I might pick him up on clearance.
At least they didn't ruin the figure with that half-assed fake "cel shading". What a disgrace the animated line is, I can't believe they are so terrible. If I get more space, I'll shell out for the Mondo line. The Hasbro versions just aren't even worth the shelf space, let alone the money.
Lol was that an overwatch reference lol
I don't mind the paint so much I think it looks fine. If anything, more accessories would help with the price and butterfly joints.
I prefer the comic book color instead. Okay for $30 figure, but not $40 price tag.
Interesting size comparison. Way bigger than Wolverine but looks like a dwarf next to Hulk? Is that accurate? And depending on the artists, I thought he might to more bulkier?
I guess since one of his powers is to change size he can be however big to want him to be.
Phenomenal review Dave I love it big fan!
Thanks brother!
Hey David I’m torn……which is the better between Juggernaut Wave Brown Wolvie or retro Brown Wolverine?
Honestly dude I’m not even sure what the difference is. If any!
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour hahha fair lol the retro is just lighter in color, and something with the arms changed. I’m torn! Hahaha I guess the cheaper is better in this scenario!
So true I washed the retro Goblin it made it look so much better I think it would help this one as well.Cheers I always enjoy the content
Really wanted this, but think I'll wait for the Select to go full hog
Lol good call
Totally agree about the paint. This seems to be a trend on recent legends. RHINO and Lizard have amazing head sculpts with great details, but the rest of the figs are just basic.
What figure is that at14:56
I state what it is
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour I can't understand what you say so I ask. All I heard was ant
Anthrax?
Good stuff, thanks for the review!
The age of apocalypse is my favorite. But this is badass😛👍
Apocalypse and Uwattu are like to buddy’s watching the game in a pub.
Yeah classic 80's colours
This is supposed to be a retro version and it isn't... it's a cartoon version, that and the lack of paint and increassed price points are what's wrong with this ML.
I agree with your critics David, thanks for the review.
BAF still heavyweight champ!
That was a great impression!
That’s dude
I like this figure, maybe I’m asking for to much. I wish he was bigger honestly.
A giant Apocalypse would be fun!
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour most definitely and I can have my rogue, Storm, arc angel action figures displayed around him, like there there flying (including jean grey as well) 😂.
Kid-friendly colors for those who’s only knowledge of the x-men is from the animated series. Apocalypse wouldn’t get caught dead dressed like that.
If I didn't own the BAF Apocalypse from years ago I would buy this
I think I will stick with my BAF, kinda have to after spending almost 100 bucks for the head to finish it.
BAF is the best!

I’ve been looking forward to this video! Pre ordered mine purely for the nostalgia 😅
I think the Marvel Select version is better, he’s bigger, and ten dollars less
