Yup, yup! As long as you can tell it is a hand then it is good enough. Plus, especially if you're going to be a character designer or animator, learning how to do stylized hands is golden! If you can break your regular hand drawings, then you can draw old, knobby hands, children's hands, thin and creepy hands.

So my pinky is always up, even when the rest of my hand is relaxed and it's SO creepy and my friends always comment about it. I found it kinda funny, they try to put it down but the "relax" state of it still is kinda up so it comes back and they get mad. So, a tip: if your character is stressed or anxious, you can show it with the hands. Make the pinky creepy, make the fingers look like they're on pressure. (If you want to exaggerate the anxiety or if the face isn't showing up) Edit: some grammar. I was sleepy while writing this

Ok, guys. I can help with this. I had to study Injury Preventative Technique for my piano playing as I was terribly tense. I had a many many many year struggle with carpel tunnel when I was super young. Apparently I never told anyone about that so I just cried my self to sleep for years. So for the pinky staying up thing, here's what you do. I want you to look at your forearm and then wiggle your fingers in as large a motion as possible without pain, don't strain, there's no point. You should see wiggling in the top of your forearm closer to your elbow. These are the Extensors. What you need to do is feel around untill you get a little bump right where it's wiggling. Probably will hurt a bit. ONce you locate that bump rub it with your other hand for a few minutes. It will hurt. That is good. After you finish rubbing it you should feel a difference when you wiggle your fingers again. As for the Cello, I'll do my best. I've never been able to play instruments like that. I would recomend the same steps as above and a secondary practice, if this works, of some scales. Yes, yes, I know. Scales are a pain in the butt, but bare with me. What I did for piano was play one note at a time, as relaxed in my body as I could get. I would play that single note with correct technique, putting my finger up and down untill I got the tension out of my other fingers. Then my wrist, elbow, shoulders, trapezius muscles. It takes concentration, practice, time, pacing, and NOT RUSHING. DO NOT RUSH! DO NOT RUSH YOUR FINGER, DO NOT RUSH YOUR MIND, DO NOT RUSH YOUR BODY!! It will feel like freaking forever. I would reccomend a meditation talk down for helping your mind and body to relax, as they talk you through each part of your body. Then, it's on to the next finger untill you can pick it up and down on the cello without being tense in your other fingers, repeating that. Then start SLOW scales. I have rushed before. It did not end well. If you have a metronome, you could put it all the way as slow as it will go and then put your finger on the string one one beat, and release the next beat. SUPER slow. You should be able to go faster with dedicated practice in just a week's time. Disclaimer again, you should probably double check this with your teacher as I am an Organist. I ain't got no strangs!

I know it’s been a while since you posted this, but I tried underwater a while ago, got frustrated by the feet and just gave them flippers and an oxygen tank.
Anatomically, your ring finger's tendons are tightly interlocked with the middle and pinky fingers, so you should almost always draw the ring finger touching one or the other of them. Also, when you hold something long in your hand, you will almost always lay it diagonally across the palm - it doesn't go from the bottom of the index finger to the bottom of the pinky finger, but from the crook of the thumb and forefinger to the joint of the wrist on the opposite side. Think of the little muscle mass alongside the thumb (the thenar prominence) as the surface on which the object is resting; the angle of whatever your character is holding will follow it closely, and the tips of the fingers will usually mirror its arc.
Thank you for making this. Drawing hands is one of my biggest struggles because my style is very realistic and I'm wanting to make a Webtoon but I could never draw hands the way I wanted to. Watching this video and hearing your tips gave me hope. :)
I think the reason why hands are so difficult to draw are that everyone *knows* what a hand looks like. When you know something well, you know it like the back of your hand. We’re lookin’ at them all day, so it’s harder to make them stylised without it lookin’ weird. Same goes with eyes, we see other people’s eyes all the time, it’s what our brains are naturally drawn to when we see something. So if you’re struggling, don’t be so down on yourself^^

I’ve always tried to avoid hands at ALL costs I’ve tried hiding them in pockets, behind their backs, off the actual frame, in their hair, tried drawing portraits from shoulder up, behind another person, literally everything. Hands have always been my weakness and every time I incorporate them into my already beautiful drawing, it just ruins its completely
As weird as it sounds, hands are one of my favorite parts of the human figure to draw. I also enjoy drawing feet, though not for a creepy reason. I just love how these body parts are flat plains at various angles that exist in space.

My issue is I'm okay at hands... but in my painted style, it's realistic. So I can't just stylize it. XD That being said, I use Animal Crossing ball hands for my drawn style.

To be honest, I've always enjoyed drawing hands! I had a similar experience with a how-to-draw book and I think it's more to get used to the idea of it having joints and it helped ingrain that idea in me. So now I don't even need to sketch the hand! You can also just look at your own hand.
I remember the last time I tried to learn how to draw hands. I did them and posted the picture excitedly on Facebook because they looked really good as the proportions all fit Someone said I fucked up because it looked like all the fingers were broken I was directly copying my own hand and I have weird fingers I felt terrible for ages since then and stopped trying to draw. You pushed my self esteem into drawing hands more better, and the words you said in the video made me appreciate how I draw my hands instead of being disappointed in the way I draw them so I really appreciate it. Also the only reason why I don’t like how I draw my hands is because I care about what others think or say because I feel like people would say something like “that’s not how you draw actual hands” or something like that. I get how most people draw “smooth hands” but some draw realistic hands and it goes better with their art style, so I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the do’s and don’ts. I mean, art is not just simple black and white, right and wrong.

Thank you for making this. Drawing hands is one of my biggest struggles because my style is very realistic and I'm wanting to make a Webtoon but I could never draw hands the way I wanted to. Watching this video and hearing your tips gave me hope. :)

I think the reason why hands are so difficult to draw are that everyone *knows* what a hand looks like. When you know something well, you know it like the back of your hand. We’re lookin’ at them all day, so it’s harder to make them stylised without it lookin’ weird. Same goes with eyes, we see other people’s eyes all the time, it’s what our brains are naturally drawn to when we see something. So if you’re struggling, don’t be so down on yourself^^

I’ve always tried to avoid hands at ALL costs
I’ve tried hiding them in pockets, behind their backs, off the actual frame, in their hair, tried drawing portraits from shoulder up, behind another person, literally everything. Hands have always been my weakness and every time I incorporate them into my already beautiful drawing, it just ruins its completely
As weird as it sounds, hands are one of my favorite parts of the human figure to draw. I also enjoy drawing feet, though not for a creepy reason. I just love how these body parts are flat plains at various angles that exist in space.
They're wonderfully complex, I understand why you like them.

To be honest, I've always enjoyed drawing hands! I had a similar experience with a how-to-draw book and I think it's more to get used to the idea of it having joints and it helped ingrain that idea in me. So now I don't even need to sketch the hand! You can also just look at your own hand.

I'm double-jointed in most of my fingers and have extremely long hands plus fingers so Hayley's like, "you can't do that with your hand" and then I do it
You pushed my self esteem into drawing hands more better, and the words you said in the video made me appreciate how I draw my hands instead of being disappointed in the way I draw them so I really appreciate it.
Also the only reason why I don’t like how I draw my hands is because I care about what others think or say because I feel like people would say something like “that’s not how you draw actual hands” or something like that. I’m just used to like making people proud or impressed with my work so I’m scared to show my work/art online because I feel like people wouldn’t like how I draw certain things.

I get how most people draw “smooth hands” but some draw realistic hands and it goes better with their art style, so I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the do’s and don’ts. I mean, art is not just simple black and white, right and wrong.
