I just got another Suhr with a covered SSV and my other Suhr has uncovered. Took a minute to get use to as the bite and treble cut in the band mix a little better, but I’m sure with a little treble adjustments on amp and pedals can remedy that. Thanks for the video. This is exactly how my SSV’s with and without cover sound in comparison as well.
Cool! Thanks for the feedback! Yeah it’s a subtle difference but when you experience it as a player it becomes more evident (and easier to know what to listen for in the video). I’ve come to like the slightly “hollow” sound from the cover.
Interesting! Did you measure the DC resistance of the bridge pickups, and their distance from the strings to be exactly same? It seems common knowledge that pickup covers attenuate the high frequencies some. However, I've had the experience that pickup covers also attenuate low frequencies, and it is very audible in these clips also. In fact, to my ears the attenuation of bass frequencies strikes even more prominent than the attenuation of treble.
Thanks for the comparison. I have SSV in the bridge on my standard. I prefer the tone of the covered one. Although they are pretty close. The covered one is a bit warmer. IMHO
Yeah they are so similar but yet the covered has a sweeter top end and kind of a hollow attack (in a good way) that adds some dimension/depth. I also like the covered one better.
Thanks for the comparison. I couldn’t tell a huge difference.
Yeah listening through RUclips it’s very subtle! But more apparent as the player.
I can hear a noticeable difference. I like the more subdued sound of the covered, but also like the extra bite of the uncovered too.
I'm thinking of uncovering my bridge and leaving my neck covered 🤔🤔
@MindFullCheeseburger it was good for Jimmy Page!
i noticed the tone got better i took em off both :0@@WorshipGuitarRiffs

What pots did you use, 250k or 500k
These are 500k. The HSS has 500k but inline resistors are added so that the single coils see 250k.
I think the difference is very minor.
Better with covered.
I agree!
Better with covered
