    What a beauty. Love the finger grooves and the 8 shot chamber. That one looks like a performer to me.

      It came with rubber grips. The ones currently on the gun were made by Kim Ahrends. Great outfit. They make really outstanding grips for 1911s and S&W revolvers. They will even let you pick the kind of wood and stain when you order a set of grips.

    Nice piece, I own the same model. Complete piece of performance center shit… take the side plate off and admire all of the”performance center” rough edges, unfinished mating surfaces, hammer to frame rub, trigger to side plate rub, cylinder end play, yoke slop, and 13 pound DA trigger pull…. I reworked mine from the ground up, stoned every moving surface, clearanced the hammer and trigger, and polished the DA sear slide surfaces and installed a wolffe spring kit. 8 pounds DA now, 2.75 ponds SA, and smooth as silk. Sad S&W didn’t do this out of the gate..

      No problem with this one. Sounds like you got a real lemon. You should have sent it back to the factory and made them do the work.

      Came from the factory with that finish. They used to put a lot more effort into fit and finish than they do today.

    What's de overall length? Is it 9.5" as the S&W spec sheet says?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  10 месяцев назад +1

      This is about 10.5". But if it had round butt grips on it instead of square butt grips, 9.5" would probably be about right.

      The new S&W revolvers work well enough. But that bead blast matte finish they use these days is really ugly.

    8 shot cylinder is better for self-defense use.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Год назад +2

      If 6 shots of 357 won`t do the job, you probably ought to be carrying a rifle anyway. But as long as the cylinder is big enough to be made in an 8 shot, S&W figured why not make it that way.

      @@1957Shep what is the most effective length of barrel for a .22 MAGNUM rimfire caliber revolver for self-defense use ?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Год назад

      @@unitedstatesirie7431 Don`t know. But since 22 Magnum was first developed for use in rifles, longer barrels would be better as far as velocity. It is loaded using a relatively slow burning powder just like 22LR is. So some of the powder will still be burning by the time the bullet leaves any handgun length barrel.

    Very nice. I don't like finger grooves, but other than that great. Can you use it without the moon clips?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Год назад

      The grips are aftermarket. It came with rubber grips. It does not need moon clips. But it is cut to accept them for people who like to use them in place of speed loaders.

      It came with rubber grips. The grips are Kim Ahrends target/combat grips. Ahrends makes very nice aftermarket grips for Smith revolvers and 1911s. They even let you pick the type of wood and stain you want when they make grips for you.

    As nice looking as this revolver is, I have a couple of questions for you, What ammo. ( that is shootable in this one ) requires the use of 'moon clips?
    Also, under the front sight as you look at the muzzle, there a small hole, what's that for? I do agree on the use of a lock, there under the hammer, but that's the result of 'politics' in action, I guess!
    Note, I do like these stainless S&W revolvers, thanks for showing this 627 to us today.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Год назад +3

      That small hole is for a set screw that holds the front site in place.
      It fires regular 38 or 357 ammo. It doesn`t need moon clips, but is cut to accept them for people who like using them in place of speed loaders.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Год назад

      I don`t have any sponsors. I like Smiths and Colts, so over the years I`ve accumulated quite a few of them.
      I`ve never seen another one of these with that aluminum case. May have been an optional thing like the wood display cases that S&W offered as an option back in the 70s and 80s.
      Bought this used about 18 years ago.
