  • This is the sixth of many tests involving the KOMA Elektronik Field Kit, a device that allows for creative experiments that are reminiscent of Musique concrète. This experiment focuses on a number of elements. Channel 1 of the audio involves my homemade “gamelan” that consists of springs on the top of a mint can (to which a contact mic is attached). This sound is processed through the TC Electronic Ditto X4 Looper and utilizes the Korg kaosspad2. Channel 2 is the Make Noise 0Coast, which is modified by the Field Kit’s LFO and the sensor output (which sends a constant control signal). Channel 3 involves the DC motor spinning as it hits a $1-store toy guitar (which has a contact mic on the outside). This audio is effected by the Nemesis delay. Channel 4 is the effect bus which has the Hologram Infinite Jets running through. It is used in the video to effect channels 1 and 3. Note near the end of the video (the last five minutes or so) note how the DC motor (atop the box on which the Field Kit is situated) creates a rather pleasant resonant tone through the Infinite Jets. The video is shot with the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. Note: this test illustrates Patch 48 in the “50 Ways to Use the Field Kit” guide.

I'm loving these videos with the field kit. Definitely making me consider buying one... although the prospect of 12 DC channels on the Dada Machines automat toolkit may interest me more!

A contact microphone is one sensor.
But standard audio mics might be a problem, if played live because of audio feedback in the monitoring speakers
If playing with something needing a mic that's near the monitor speakers, what is a good "close" microphone choice... a lapel mic ?
