Those "plugs in the forehead" are called service studs, each represents 50 years of service (so 2 means a century of service). Why aren't there people with 3, 4 or 5? Because even though the Space Marines are made to be essentially immortal, the universe they live in is so hostile that 90% don't even live long enough to earn their first stud. But those who do, are considered veterans, and often end up getting appointed as squad leaders, force commanders, etc.

Technology of course! Power armour might seem insanely OP when compared to our known weapons, but the weapons of 40k are also insanely OP. Most bladed weapons that you see cutting through armour like paper are incased in a power field that is molecule thick, enabling such weapons to pass through just about every normal material like a warm knife through butter. There are special counters to this, such as energy fields, but any normal non-exotic material is pretty useless against such weapons. The same goes for all the crazy projectile and energy based ranged weapons. Many of them are made by various Xeno species, and the humans themselves have a wide range of extremely powerful weaponry that can easily one-shot a power armour wearing Space Marine.
@@AMM-S Well Ork weapons can be equally impressive, but they generally get kills on Space Marines by sheer volume of fire. Power armour has its own weak points, and given sufficent damage even weapons as crude as Ork weapons can eventually bring them down. Don't forget that the Orks have the genetic memory of a very advanced xeno species, even if they don't understand that fact, and have the capability to produce some very powerful weaponry.
