    I hate it when the main girl has two options which are “terrible but has a random soft side and occasionally feminist” and “main love interest’s rival, he is hot but he is more terrible”. Since the main girl MUST choose one because she can’t be single or look for other people she chooses best of the worst..?

    I dislike Rhysand so much and it pissed me off how much people fawn over him and think he and Feryre are ‘couple goals’
    I hated the mate aspect and it made me feel icky. Like okay people can’t choose their spouses in this world just danty
    I stopped in the middle of the second book and haven’t looked back since

    I think the whole ‘mating bond’ making her forgive Rhys is a result of him wanting forgiveness and that somehow being projected in the bond, therefore manipulating her thought and feelings

    sjm must pay for her crimes. i cannot believe the basis of the main couple in the acotar series is “yes he abuses and SA her but he only does it because he secretly loved her the entire time

    It’s funny because I loved these books, then re read them a few years later after I had entered and exited an emotionally abusive relationship. Which completely transformed my view on the character’s and their relationships

    Thank you! My wife asked me to read ACOTAR because she started the series this year and she adores it. I finished the first book, saw how both Tamlin and Rhysand treated Feyre, and immediately asked her WTF. She said I had to keep going. That it got better. That I just didn’t understand. I understand that lying, manipulation, physically harming someone, and forcing them into a life long commitment that is two steps away from slavery is not romance. And while Rhysand does some okay things in the second book it does not excuse his actions in the first book, he never sees any consequences for it, and he continues to withhold the truth from Feyre while CONSTANTLY putting in situations where she nearly gets killed.
    None of it is romantic, none of it is okay, and I do not see the attraction at all.

    i loved this discussion. i actually did my undergrad dissertation about the romanticisation of psychological abuse in literature (more specifically about twilight and fifty shades) so this topic really interests me. i think it's such an important conversation that doesn't happen enough in the book community (at least from what i see anyway).

    I am listening to the recently book in this series that came out, because I'm not going to give this author any of my money. Spoiler, Rhysand is a terrible person in the whole book. He Is awful in how he acts to fyrah and nesta. Never read the other books, but I know what happen in these books. What broke me was when he said he wouldn't let fryah do something in some alpha male, protecting her act.

    Hey queen I know this video is 2 yrs old but I’m on the rhysand hate train because my friend is making me read these books. Just wanted to mention quickly that the dark triad is often interconnected with “evil” and psychopathy/antisocial personality disorder. So honestly it adds a whole new uncomfortable layer to fictional bad boys if they have dark triad traits

    Sorry I haven't read the book. I was thinking about getting it for a friend. So as far as I was told was that Rhysand had no choice when making her do those things. Which is supposed to be explained in the second book. I'd like to know before getting this for my friend. So he could have saved her without doing all that bad stuff to her? Why did he do all that stuff? This video doesn't explain why he was doing it. I would really like to know what is going on. Thanks.

      I can't explain it without giving major story spoilers. But just know that yes rhysand does do some awful things in book 1 but for certain reasons etc. Its all explained in book 2.

    Sorry but I will always love Rhys and No one can change my mind he always gave her a choice if she wanted to live and be with him afterwards. He literally said many times he would of let her be with someone else even if it killed him . How can you say he’s awful after reading about TAMLIN LIKE COME ON . No .

    • @devile2610
      @devile2610 2 года назад +24

      1, he drugged feyre during the mountain and make her dance sexually without consent
      2. he literally shimmer her off to the weaver which I may remind you killed thousands if not more mortals and fay alike
      3. he literally hid the risk of death about her pregnancy
      I can go on and on about everyone in this book, all of them are horrible and traumatized people that needs therapy
      P.S Tamlin is literally the least of the worst in all of the books, compare him to amarantha and hybern he's literally a 1 to a zero
      Compare him to rhysand both of them are alike, they just have different ways of abuse, rhysand is more subtle.
      but anyway have a great day

      @@nerdieone1it’s the convieniant, though illogical, excuses and explanations for abuse that’s the disturbing part. Not having a morally grey character- but one that is then framed by the protagonist with rose tinted glasses.

    If you read the books you would understand why rhysand did what he did. I can't stand rapey abusive characters but I didn't get that from rhysand. Do people not understand they were in a life or death situation UTM? how rhysand was a broken person from YEARS of torture and abuse etc? All the characters dealt with some form of trauma and had different ways of dealing with it. Sorry but I don't understand all the hate rhysand gets.

      The thing is, when you gain certain life experiences, a lot of women excuse sexual boundary crossing behavior. But it is never okay. It is not a foundation of a healthy relationship. Not informing Feyre later... Oof. A reason is not an excuse. The kiss, fine. The drugging, creepy. The twisting of her bones? Plainly cruel.

    • @jessicasunnyd
      @jessicasunnyd 3 месяца назад +1

      I’m confused- do you give Tamlin the same understanding? Except Tamlin would never do things so terrible to Feyre. He’s not the lord of deception and conniving, even if he’s the beast of anger and sadness.
