Mato I would like to personally thank you for all of the hard work you do and your expert videos. Because of your effort I am playing on Lichess against the computer on level 2 AI. Starting to get somewhat consistent on beating the computer. I started playing chess after a 40 year absence. You are a legend in our house and my favorite saying is "what would you do in this situation?" I agree with Schutzstafell you are awesome! God Bless you Mato*
It depends on the position, Mato also showed some games where one side is down very much material, but mates the enemy king. They resign when game is lost. If there is a forced mate in 3 or something, there is no need to play until checkmate.
Magnus is brilliant. Just mind blowing to see him convert his space advantage into a win. I just love how every piece is carefully moved around to be in the right place at the right time.
Well obviously at this level there is no chance to outplay your opponent being a piece down, sometimes even a pawn is winning. This tournament showed some very fantastic games that prove this words, like Nakamura-Kramnik(Kramnik won being a pawn up)or Mcshane-Polgar(Judit won a clean piece and Mcshane resigned).Well, anyway, they really know what they are doing.
I had that black window problem... Uninstall flash player, and instal one version older flash player... And do not update it, at least for the time being... That should solve it...
Maybe it's like...If blacks did not tried to defend d6, by wasting a move on a6. Then white bishop on d6, bishop takes bishop, queen takes bishop that could be followed by white pawn on e5 threatening the knight?
hi mato i like most of tal games who do u rate the best chess player do u think tal is the best player compared to the recent players like magnus ,gary etc
The reason for the resign is obvious, it had nothing to do with the material disadvantage. Its simply a losing position regardless of how she would have played it, she realized it and resigned. As Mato points out if she takes the marching pawn he wins the knight outright and achieves a mating pattern. Is she doesn't take the pawn it marches and the same result different piece. Either way its gg Carlson.
At 8:35, what about WQueen to C3 Check, then Queen to D4, and after that, Queen takes on D4 Checkmate? I'm still a beginner so don't laugh if those moves are incoherent.
You're not listening. it wasn't played. If you listen closely, mato said "if" (supposedly if judit polgar moves that way it will be too bad, since they know that ahead of you can imagine they haven't done that). As you can see the grandmaster j.polgar move the real game at 8:54
u misunderstood my comment. I was only adding a response to what could have been done to prevent the checkmate he was (fugiapple) suggesting. The c3 check is easily blocked by pawn e5!
Mato, i have a question. Did J Polgar make any mistakes in this game? Because the only mistake i see is that she had black pieces? LOL Thanks Mato!!! YOU ROCK!!!
It's right that White wins a piece after 1...R4d7 2.Rxf8+ Rxf8 (2...Kg7 3.Rxd7+ Kxf8 here White is a rook and a knight up!) 3.Rxd7 and White easily wins with a knight up!
three good videos in a row (though I'm sure you made them at different times. The juxtaposition of Carlson and Kramnik, both in London, both attacking Judit Polgar. None the less, I think I have made the same mistake in one of my three day moves, leaving too many dark squares open.
For those of you who think Magnus is such a whoos..check out his game with white against Hans Krogh Harestad in Copenhagen in 2003..maybe he's gotten more prophylactic since then..but wow!!
08:36 In this position can't white just swing queen to b2 ? This is mate isn't it ? Ofc black can block with queen but then queen takes queen and after f6 queen takes pawn on f6 it's mate ;d
chess isn't like, say, tennis where if you play perfectly you can come back from any disadvantage no matter how good your opponent is. in chess if you have a big disadvantage, even with perfect play your opponent can still beat you with merely decent moves. the only way you will win is if your opponent makes a big blunder which is extremely rare at his level. you can test by playing against an engine in an ending with a rook up or something, you should win even if the engine is rated 3300+
i felt from about move15 until the end game it was like black was slowly suffocating. of course mato would say tal at his best would have put calsen to bed early.
yes he trained like that but that doesnt prove anything. Overall Carlsen's ability is better than Judit. don't get me wrong, i love Judit but Carlsen is simply better.
+Harrys Bleton Pfft. She was extremely well-trained, and was only 20 by the time the first computer won a match against the human world champion. Carlsen is around 200 points better than Polgar. It isn't remotely close.
+Kevin is Nice She failed to develop any counterplay out of the opening and was stuck with a very passive game. It left her having to make purely defensive moves. Look at, among other things, how her ....g6 created the dark-squared weaknesses through which Carlsen won the game.
19.... Qa8 and black is worse. Strangely passive defence by Polgar, with minimal counterplay for black throughout. It looks like the play of someone intimidated. --21....Qb8 simply underscores the inadvisability of black's play to this point.
Not at all! It was mainly Magnus who took out any tactics (like Kramnik won so many games vs Judit). Even a strong tactical player like Shirov lost in a tactical game to Judit Polgar. That shows how strong Judit tactical skills were! :D
Wasn't the London Classic humiliating for Mselle. Polgar? She got her derriere booted, or? Who invited her anyway? Was it a mistake? She is the best woman player, right?
sir mato what magnus carlsen can be proud of is that he was born gifted with a mind brilliant for chess and no other else. Judith and her sisters were not born gifted but trained at an early age by their psychologist father who believed that one of ordinary birth can be trained to become brilliant on a particular activity. Judith gave a hard time for the prodigy to win over her this shows that judith ca be able to beat carlsen. How about Tal he was not born a prodigy but he trained himself untill he became very very good in chess. Sir what is your estimate if Tal and carlsen will play can Tal be able to win even one game against the prodigy?
I don't think it's fair to say Judit wasn't born with a brilliant mind, she was (and I think still is) the youngest person ever to become a GM (13yo?).
Toby Smith What has fairness to do with it? Both if her level of chess was achieved at birth or teached, what does it matter? Why would be the one method be better or worse than the other?
+dosdadio siapa What a weird claim. How do you know the Polgar sisters weren't born with a powerful facility for chess? And if they were not, why isn't their father's system turning out GM's by the bushel full?
Interesting game. I've watched the games where Magnus lost in the previous years. And just like all high level players when they lose they lose bad. Figures he would finally go toe to toe with Polgar. And they went into an endgame!!
its not amatours game when without a queen for knight you can still win. GMs will win easily with piece up so there is no point in wasting time. Better to give up.
I agree Magnus's games, the ones I have seen at least, aren't as thrilling as Tal's or Judit's as he plays very safe, but maybe that's just the price to be paid for playing a superior game.
And the knight says.."I'll be back.."
Mato. You are awesome. Lol
+chilly rooster Carlsen looks like Damon had sex with a muppet.
I love how you create suspense :)
".. And in this position. (long pause) Judit (pause) Resigned (looming silence)"
Mato I would like to personally thank you for all of the hard work you do and your expert videos. Because of your effort I am playing on Lichess against the computer on level 2 AI. Mato , I watch a lot of videos but I enjoy yours the most because you're good and FUNNY too ! Good job buddy .
It depends on the position, Mato also showed some games where one side is down very much material, but mates the enemy king. They resign when game is lost. If there is a forced mate in 3 or something, there is no need to play until checkmate.
You present the ideas behind moves in a very clear and funny manner. Love your video man. Keep it up!
Magnus is brilliant. Just mind blowing to see him convert his space advantage into a win. I just love how every piece is carefully moved around to be in the right place at the right time.
I really like your explanations. Chess is a very difficult game, but when you explain it... it looks easy....

That should solve it...
You powers of perception are truly breathtaking, Mato.
It is like boxing, you give up the fight before your brain gets damaged to- live and to fight another day.
Paul morphy🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪
I know what that is. It is a black window problem.
Im fairly new to chess, at 1:53, if black played pawn to a6, why would black not want white to play d6?
Emmet Clarke Thanks for the help anyway!
Maybe it's like...If blacks did not tried to defend d6, by wasting a move on a6. Then white bishop on d6, bishop takes bishop, queen takes bishop that could be followed by white pawn on e5 threatening the knight?
Really2 amazing game by Carlsen. How did he visualize such a Zugwang position at the end astonish us. He deserved to be the World champion and No 1👍👍
I love your channel and its followers. I hope there will be a translation of the clips and thank you
11:04 I'll be back … Arnold Schwarzenegger :)
He casted a game where a gm resigned after losing just 1 pawn.
you did a great job man! good commentary.
Mato:
I do not have the video! Only a black window! Can you tell me what the problem is?
hi mato i like most of tal games who do u rate the best chess player do u think tal is the best player compared to the recent players like magnus ,gary etc
at 11:53, how is Rook takes pawn checkmate if knight takes rook? am i missing something
He said if black night moves from f8, than rxf7.
8:25 What about queen to G7?
I got the video playing but didn't have my headphones on. I needed to rewind back to hear the famous "Hi, this is Mato" :) that's more like it :))
Why Bd6 if a6? @ 2:00
Wonderful game. Thanks for posting this, Mato.
The reason for the resign is obvious, it had nothing to do with the material disadvantage. Its simply a losing position regardless of how she would have played it, she realized it and resigned. Or. After Queen C3 check - Pawn e5 :-)
Very True! I figured two Chess Grandmasters couldn't miss something as obvious as that.
You're not listening. it wasn't played. If you listen closely, mato said "if" (supposedly if judit polgar moves that way it will be too bad, since they know that ahead of you can imagine they haven't done that). As you can see the grandmaster j.polgar move the real game at 8:54

Qc3 is a blunder move
Thanks MATO;
I was able to watch it on "Watch Later".
Recommend it to others if they have this problem.
Is Carlsen's rating really 2861? When did this happen?
FIDE reports a 2848 rating as of December 2012.
Like your newer pic mato. Looking snazzy.
Mato, i have a question. Did J Polgar make any mistakes in this game? Because the only mistake i see is that she had black pieces? LOL Thanks Mato!!! YOU ROCK!!!
10:46 How about Rook D4>D7?
+Alan Pietrzyk Then rxf8 check and white is winning the knight.
+Alan Pietrzyk White can respond with Rook takes knight F8. 1...RxF8 2.RxD7 White is a piece up; if 1.... KG7 then 2. RxD8
control your mind
It's right that White wins a piece after 1...R4d7 2.Rxf8+ Rxf8 (2...Kg7 3.Rxd7+ Kxf8 here White is a rook and a knight up!) 3.Rxd7 and White easily wins with a knight up!
what about fischer
What a game..!
He has no more games this month and his live-rating is 2861.4. So his FIDE rating is 2861. Just needs to be finalized by month's end.
Huh? What do you want him to be no.1 in?
Mato have u noticed Kramniks exchange sacrifices in the London Classics? :D
three good videos in a row (though I'm sure you made them at different times. The juxtaposition of Carlson and Kramnik, both in London, both attacking Judit Polgar.
None the less, I think I have made the same mistake in one of my three day moves, leaving too many dark squares open.
Mato...can you post some of Anand games from london chess 2012??
Thank you...
For those of you who think Magnus is such a whoos..check out his game with white against Hans Krogh Harestad in Copenhagen in 2003..maybe he's gotten more prophylactic since then..but wow!!
4:13 At this point only a pair of pawns has been traded. I like to see complicated middle games like this.
Gr8 demonstration, more M Carlsen games will be even greater :)
Mato what country are you from?
Anyway thanks for the videos!
8:35 queen to c3 checkmate for carlsen
Pawn e5 would block, being defended by the black queen..
Can you make a video about the London opening?
And where is London?
Very instructive game thanks Mato!
08:36 In this position can't white just swing queen to b2 ? This is mate isn't it ? Ofc black can block with queen but then queen takes queen and after f6 queen takes pawn on f6 it's mate ;d
good game very technical, very good commentary by Mato!
magnus the no.1 ? only in fide ratings ?
@7:17 why not Nf2-e4?
chess isn't like, say, tennis where if you play perfectly you can come back from any disadvantage no matter how good your opponent is. in chess if you have a big disadvantage, even with perfect play your opponent can still beat you with merely decent moves. the only way you will win is if your opponent makes a big blunder which is extremely rare at his level.

of course mato would say tal at his best would have put calsen to bed early.
8.34 If black king goes to H8 then Q to c3+ with mate next move? What am I missing?
ilkinond You're missing pawn to e5. Blocking check and is being defended by queen.
New sub!! I do like how you get into the “meat” of the game!
Judit was not at her best this game. And Magnus was at the top of his game.
Dude... Carlsen is way better than J.Polgar.
+Mansoor Cfc dude but Carlsen have been trained with a computers
yes he trained like that but that doesnt prove anything. Overall Carlsen's ability is better than Judit. don't get me wrong, i love Judit but Carlsen is simply better.
Mansoor Cfc yes,Kasparov trained him 😂 if Judit did too I am pretty sure she would be better
+Harrys Bleton Pfft. She was extremely well-trained, and was only 20 by the time the first computer won a match against the human world champion. Carlsen is around 200 points better than Polgar. It isn't remotely close.
I think you'd make paint drying sound exciting if you chose to. You're amazingly good at chess/sports commentary. (Again... good job)
Thanks for the video mato. Great work as always. Gotta admit I was pulling for judit though. Bye for now
Do you know how I can solve it?
Very good explanation!! Thanks
Where is tall to teach those boys how to scrifice a piece and reduce the time of that vide to a half
sounds like another problem with dark square weaknesses
Thanks for sharing
at 8:44 min it is checkmate only if white queen moves c3... no need to win black queen... thats y black king moved to g7
yeah i too just said that :D
Great video...Thank you Mato!
Mato, do all australians have perfect english pronunciation or this is just you?
Where did she mess up?
+Kevin is Nice She failed to develop any counterplay out of the opening and was stuck with a very passive game. It left her having to make purely defensive moves. Look at, among other things, how her ....g6 created the dark-squared weaknesses through which Carlsen won the game.
Mato whats your elo ?
Thanks
Thank you
Paul morphy the best🔥🔥🔥🔥💪
Very interesting game, Mato!!
thank you Mato

i like listening to this guy speak
Judit is a monster. She plays like Tal. But in this game she seemed timid. Of course, playing Magnus can have that effect.
Not at all! It was mainly Magnus who took out any tactics (like Kramnik won so many games vs Judit). Even a strong tactical player like Shirov lost in a tactical game to Judit Polgar. That shows how strong Judit tactical skills were! :D
VERY GOOD
Thanks Mato
You probably need to refresh.
Great game
this is what you call a war of attrition!
Wasn't the London Classic humiliating for Mselle. Polgar? She got her derriere booted, or? Who invited her anyway? Was it a mistake? She is the best woman player, right?

What has fairness to do with it?
Both if her level of chess was achieved at birth or teached, what does it matter? Why would be the one method be better or worse than the other?
I don't think it does matter. I just think Polgar is a very naturally talented player.
Toby Smith I think Sergey Karjakin is the youngest person ever to become a GM at the age of 12 years and 7 months.
+dosdadio siapa What a weird claim. How do you know the Polgar sisters weren't born with a powerful facility for chess? And if they were not, why isn't their father's system turning out GM's by the bushel full?
Excellent. Thank you. The chessnut

Judith Polgar was slow to resign, wasn't she?
true. she likes to torment her players.
Bhargav Nanekalva Do you seriously propose that Magnus Carlsen can be tormented by tenacious endgame fighting?
I saw a picture of them sitting in London eye playing chess :)
Magnus would walk over Judith any time... There is a huge difference between them...
Knight says: I'LL BE BACK
game like a 2 pc engines fight
Hahaha absolutly
at the end the Knight was back!!!
no offense...but Mato starts as if someone had died
That IS offensive ! I find Mato's voice very soothing
of course he does, the king just died :D
good game
That was a good game.
Carlsen is like a boa constrictor, slowly squeezing the life out of his opponents.
In Canada, don't believe me check Google maps.
this is your longest video ever mato
Look at this.
