    The big question: Can you put these together to make a huge screen as they use in making The Mandalorian?

    • @JohnDoe-gs1cb
      @JohnDoe-gs1cb 2 года назад +1

      I'm pretty sure you can replace the backlight of any LCD to use this, like the Apple Display XDR, and you will have a great contrast ratio and the blacks like an OLED display.

    • @ShahZahid
      @ShahZahid 2 года назад +1

      yea but no, the panels used on the mandalorian set were extremely high resolution, while as these panels will look like pixel art unless you chain a loot of them and shoot from far away

    • @FarSeeker8
      @FarSeeker8 2 года назад

      @@ShahZahid Ok, but if you use a very shallow depth of field, it wouldn't be hidden by the blur?

      The moire pattern would still be apparent in the bokeh. 2.86mm pixel-pitch is entry level resolution, and I wouldn't recommend higher than 3.5mm. for a small 35ft diameter stage with 14ft high walls, you're looking at $1.5mil not including equipment, 210v generator and fuel or electrical cost per day in the high hundreds to low thousands.

      @@mikesill5462 It's the cost that decides...sigh.

      What is baffling me is the lack of awareness of the significance of this as a HUGE upgrade in display quality o be had with replacing the basic plain white LED's in even the most expensive LED monitors with these vastly superior RGB LED matrix panels, it would rival the 30 thousand pound dual-LCD BVM displays from Sony and Panasonic, all for the cost of less than 100 $£, use a black acrylic diffuser panel for ultra inky blacks, and you will have OLED level blacks, IPS level brightness in one display, then add to that the 1000hz modulated RGB LED's available now, and you have CRT level motion clarity, someone must have done this by now as the ultimate DIY gaming monitor.

    Two questions;
    The learning system article only tells us how to set up 2x2 panels. How would you set this up with a 4:3 resolution of 1024x768 and 12 panels in a 4x3 configuration, for a maximum chain count of 12? How would the chain work if there's 3 rows? would it snake left bottom to top right, with the middle row needing 180 degree rotation config?
    And will the crop config work with two values? Like, could you specify an origin point and a secondary x,y location, and could it use that as the screenportion to scale to the full panel setup? This would open the door to using emulators that only use a portion of the screen, but center it on the hdmi output.

    • @Autunite
      @Autunite 5 лет назад

      A bit late for an answer, but it might be helpful for others. The LEDs come in different sizes, they're kind of marked by the description of the panel. P2.5 means there's 2.5mm between each LED, P5 means there's 5mm and so on. P2.5 is probably the smallest LED board you can get, quite good for indoor displays.

    What's the max size for this panel? Is it possible to use 12 of those to create a bigger screen?

    • @TonyDiCola
      @TonyDiCola 8 лет назад +1

      +Ama Trykowski Max panel size is 32x32 as far as I know and yep about 12 is the max for good quality on a single chain. You can actually use 3 chains in parallel so in theory up to 36 panels, but you'll need to wire the chains manually to other GPIO pins on the Pi (the HAT only uses 1 parallel chain). Check out the rpi-rgb-led-matrix library for more details on wiring and configuring parallel chains: github.com/hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix
