      Very well-organized kitchen and you are obviously very good with DIY. For the empty room, may be turning it into a study/guest bedroom room with a Murphy bed would be an option.

    Gorgeous, clean, uncluttered kitchen, I'm loving that. If your bonus room isn't need as office space or workout space... you might consider putting the long table in there and using the large room as a livingroom where you could mount a TV on the wall and have a relaxing, entertaining space when people come over. Of course you could also keep things as they are, and just add a futon to the bonus room for overnight guests who'd enjoy a private space. You have so many options, so many amenities, and great style... your NYC apartment is fab! xx

  • @isabelle_rose_
    @isabelle_rose_ 5 лет назад +7

    Love the whole vibe of the apartment! Here are things I would personally do.
    1. I would switch out the closet door for a mirrored closet door, it’ll open the space
    2. I would take both of those rugs out. Although they are incredibly cute, they are too large for the space so it eats up the room
    3. I would add a bench and center the dining table and put the bar car against the window wall
    4. I’d add a comfy bench w some throw pillows for one of the sides
    5. Use the Empty room as an extra closet/get ready room/film storage or another lounge area

    • @HannaColeman
      @HannaColeman  5 лет назад +1

      Wow! Thank you so much for all of this! I love the idea of the bench & centering the dining table! I originally was going to do that but never tested it out. I love all of the ideas! I wish my building would allow me to make changes to the closet doors but they are pretty strict! And the rugs are definitely large and take up the space, they are hiding the old, stained wood floors that need to be updated. I think the extra room as a film storage / get ready room is an amazing idea! I will try these ideas and put them into future videos! Thank you so much for your feedback :)

    I would turn that empty room into my workout space, or maybe a sitting area for guests (you may not he able to fit a full living room in there but it would be a nice spot to chill if you put some smaller chairs and what not. You could honestly make that room both of these things, and just have seating that can be easily hidden or whatever. Maybe a futon for guests or something... 😅

    Hanna, as a 45-year-old living in the city for almost 20 years (not a creepster, just fell down a RUclips rabbit hole and landed on your video), I just had to say that I am beyond impressed with your sense of self-reliance with installing not only your living room light (which is an admirable feat on its own), AND your bathroom shelves and cabinet, but a wall-mounted flatscreen TV, to boot? Hang your knives with handle up, not down. It helps if you drop the knife, so you do not try to catch the sharp end. Also, it helps them to dry better if put there damp.

    • @HannaColeman
      @HannaColeman  5 лет назад +1

      That’s a great idea! The magnetic bar is pretty strong & I dry them before I put them up but I will try this way! thank you so much :)

    • @HannaColeman
      @HannaColeman  5 лет назад

      @Marty Kingman I realize that the handles facing up is better because the handles are way too top heavy and actually make the knives fall. When they're facing up they NEVER fall and off they did, the handles would take the hit (as you said). So smart!

      @bubbles32881 5 лет назад +5

      Jessica Nicole agreed! Love the apartment but found it really odd looking there was a huge dining table with chairs in the living room area. Would def get a small couch for the living area and move the table and chairs and bar cart into the extra room off of the kitchen. I also would move the bed around and place the headboard on the wall with the window that way there’s room at the foot of the bed and then re-mount the tv in the living room.

    The spare room is called a "Junior 1". Meaning: It's a studio with an additional small room or a big walk in closet. In most cases it won't have a window so, it technically can't be called a bedroom (and sometimes it won't have a door). Most studio apartments have them but, they're usually called a change room, which will be located be the 'wet room'.

    They should have made the bathroom in that storage space - that would allow to make the living room bigger and with 2 windows. :)

    I didn't see a laundry room ? Maybe you could put a washer/dryer combo in there ? Hidden in the closet. You could turn it into a cozy room with a couch for cold winter nights have game nights or movie nights in there with friends. I'm a few months late on this post wonder what did you do with the room ??

    You could put down padding, get a stationary bike or rowing machine and a few kettle bells and put it in that extra room. Could be an unreal little home gym! You literally could get everything done in there. Awesome place!

    I'm surprised you screwed the knife holder, shelves and medicine cabinet into the tile! Did you hang them in a way that didnt damage the tile?

    • @HannaColeman
      @HannaColeman  5 лет назад +5

      the knife holder I put up with command strips, the shelves and medicine cabinet are in the regular wall, not tile! The tile ends in the bathroom half way up the wall so it was actually super easy to put up!

    Your apartment is a dream 😍 I love your minimalistic style. I live in a 100 year old building in the city, and our entire kitchen is the size of your dining room table. Also, what I would kill to have a dishwasher, and a newer one at that!
    Also, I would turn your extra room into either an office or workout space if I were you!

  • @denisejones7780

    I would use the extra space as a walk in closet, you could use the racks from the bedroom and add more as needed. What you have for storage use the bedroom closet. Movie night with a girl or boyfriend can be done on the bed so no need for a couch, you could get some floor pillows or Ikea has some cute stacking rattan seats for use in bedroom. Just pretend it is a studio and use the bedroom for multi use.

    • @HannaColeman

      @euro_babe 5 лет назад

      yes i agree, a walk in closet would be perfect since the space is prettt small. Another option would be to put in a Murphy bed and turn it into a guest room, but only if you have friends or family that sleepover often. otherwise i think a walk in closet would be your best option. Either way, your apartment is beautiful and very nicely organized

      @@HannaColeman I commend you for the goals of living in Manhattan.I would however work the numbers. Even at $3k/no an apt that size just would not be worth it. If you jave $3k/no to hand over to a landlord you could probably get a house rental for that out on Long island. Or a better apt for 1/2 the price and save $1.5k/mo. NYC just is not worth that kind of money esp for a walk in closet.
      In the 80s a friend if mine got a studio on gramercy park area for $500/no. It came complete with a pervy doorman. Her apt was so small that it only fit a single bed, dersser amd a nightstand. When you put the key in the door, you broke the window!!
      I could never live in NYC, EVER!
