  • The monument of the 4th New York Independent Artillery Battery was dedicated July 2, 1888. The bronze statue of an artilleryman atop the monument is located along Sickle’s Avenue near the Devil’s Den. This Battery, commanded during the battle by Captain James Smith, would lose three of its six guns. There has been, over the years, much discussion where Smith’s four guns were actually deployed. Most believe the guns were not where the monument stands today. This video gives you the information and you make the call! Thanks for watching.
