Yo just keep grinding. Its a lot easier on larger pokemon too (legendaries in general). Perhaps you're trying to hit excellents on small pokemon like shellder which are harder to get excellents on. If you ever see a dusknoir (boosted spawns at night since hoenn event) or anything larger try to hit it. Or if you havent completed the hoenn event just keep chucking balls at groudon or any research pokemon with just a pokeball until you hit a excellent. Why? because you can't lose pokeballs catchign research encounters. And there's a really low chance ur catching groudon with a pokeball no berriers so u can keep trying even if u get a great and it wont run away. Hope this helps bro.

it does if you time it right and get the circle the way it's supposed to be and only touch the ball again after the attack starts and release it before the animation ends

Nice tip, thanks sir! :) For me the hardest part is finding the "distance" between me and the pokémon while throwing the ball. Usually I overthrow the ball (lands behind the poké), or just throw it too short making it to land in front of the poké. :/ I can't practice enough, because I'm running out of pokéballs like mad... xD Any tips of how to "feel" or find out the distance between me and the pokémon? Or is the distance the same and only the pokémon's size is the different? Would be so grateful for any advice. Cheers
I personally feel the most difficult to throw against 5* legendary raid bosses is those bosses stand far away in distance. I barely hit them with my max effort curver throw... like I went 100% hard throw and the ball only barely hit the target circle. I literally can't overthrow a boss that stand far away (which seems like majority of legendary I encountered since the few months I played the game). Especially the shadow Moltres, a lot of missing throw, I tried hardest throw but the ball still fall short. Maybe the phone screen ratio, or screen protector, or some 5* bosses are just difficult to hit or combination of all.
If I read his message correctly, then he ask about how to _feel_ the distance between him and the target pokemon he encountered. Which is different from pokemon to pokemon and you can't feel that, has to throw 1 or 2 ball to gauge the distance (or you have to encountered them a lot to get muscle memory about each type of pokemon). And once the distance is clear, next problem is you accuracy in throwing, knowing the distance doesn''t mean much if you can't aim accurately. Especially with far away bosses, you know they're far but sometimes you just can't do anything about that, hardest throw still fall short. It's frustrated.@@Observing-NPCs
I have watched SO MANY VIDEOS to try and figure this out. I banked up three throw three excellent curve balls in a row for a larvitar encounter and I managed to throw two time and a again only to screw up and break my streak. I even did this four times in a row - excellent excellent not X4 - so you can imagine how FRUSTRATED I was. Your vid was the first one to explain it where I could understand! THANK YOU!!!
What am I missing?!?! How is everyone getting the circles to freeze at the smallest point?!?! Mine keep moving! Even if I hold down on the poke ball I really don’t get it 😩😩
Please help this beginner understand something. I understand holding the finger on the ball then releasing it to freeze the circle. But as soon as you touch it and spin it, the circle continues to get smaller (or at least moves), therefore un-freezing it. What would be the difference if you just spin it and releasing it when the circle gets the size you want it? If the idea is to not worry about the circle AND the movements of the pokemon, I get that. So in that case, you shouldn't spend too much time spinning the ball or you've lost the circle. Correct?
Yes so IF you only pick up the poke ball DURING the attack animation of the pokemon, the circle will stay frozen from where you left it at and if you throw right before the catch animation is done, then the circle will never rearrange and will stay at the circle size you selected. Only time it will unfreeze is if you pick up the poke ball to throw while the pokemon is not attacking, then you will see what you are experiencing where it starting from where you left off. The goal of this trick is to enable you to throw the poke ball without having the pokemon do an attack and kick your ball out of the way.
Thanks. One last question. Does the circle have to be set again after every throw? It didn't look like you did every time unless your hands are quicker than my eyes.
It does not have to be set after every throw. Unless you accidentally mis time it where the circle pops up before you release the ball. When you master it the circle will stay at the exact same size. Great observation :)
I never noticed that trick with the ring. :O I always threw the ball just after the Pokemon finishes its attack animation, haha! Although, I've never actually caught a Legendary on an Excellent, always Great or Nice. A catch is a catch though so oh well! :D Will perfect this advice next time I Raid. ^-^
That is just practice. You have to memorize the movement that your finger makes to hit the pokemon in the same spot. You will have to remember exactly how to release the poke ball each time in the same spot to hit dead center of the pokemon. It takes practice. Check out my latest video on Latias and you will see :) ruclips.net/video/eyPVmODH9b4/видео.html
Definitely just comes down to the timing, even to this day. If you throw it too early, the pokemon will bounce it off. If you throw it too late, the circle will keep shrinking
Excellent video ty so much! I'm a little confused, i thought circle locks make it so you always get excellent throws and never miss? Also, i curve the ball as he's lunging forward, and throw when he's going back to normal state before attack animation ends? ty again!!

What do you do about the small ones like Cutiefly and Bellossom? They seem to either be 'nice' or 'great' at best. Is it possible to get an excellent on small, close Pokémon?
