John Lennon in the Beatles will be listened to by people 100 years from now. They will sit and wonder what it was like to live in that era. I feel grateful to have experienced it. They will go down as talented musicians and composers and lyricist and will be appreciated like all the other greats.
Absolutely to Group during those times and to keep up what’s going on nobody really nobody will really understand it unless they’re actually there words cannot explain some things….
The film clips in this video were shot in the early 70s, when John and Yoko first moved to New York. The song was recorded in 1980, shortly before John was killed, and the recording wasn't released until 1984, by which time music videos were the new marketing trend, so these early 70s clips were put on top of the music. The video is remarkable for showing the celebrities that John and Yoko were hanging out with: Fred Astaire, Dick Cavett, Andy Warhol, Miles Davis, and even John's old bandmate George.
In the mid to late 70's when Lennon shot this video, you just could see what a freaking legend Lennon was, he had the respect of a lot of people, was he a little crazy, yes but Miles Davis, Warhol and Fred Astaire, they knew Lennon was a music god.
Andy Warhol was probably the 'biggest star' of the bunch. His paintings sell for hundreds of millions of dollars. The most famous works are the Campbell's Soup cans, and Marilyn Monroe.
Hi guys, I just felt like I needed to let you know how much I look forward to seeing you everyday. I'm an old hippie in my sixties who was just diagnosed with terminal cancer in March and I'm pretty much religated to laying in n bed getting stoned and listening to music. Your channel is like hearing the soundtrack of my life and it brings me so much joy to see a new generation discovering the greatest music ever made. You two are such a cool and happy couple and you give me hope for the future of mankind. I just know your son is going to have a wonderful life with folks like you and if it's possible I will be sending good karma to you from beyond. I wish you all the luck in the world and I look forward to seeing you for however long the Lord sees fit to keep me around. Thanks for brightening my day
Hi David. I am so sorry for what you are facing. That was a beautiful message you sent for Brad and Lex. I hope and pray that you have good people around you who love you and are there to help you in any way you need. May God bring you strength, comfort and peace. ❤
Lex, that was a very interesting perspective on John and Yoko. You're right, is rare for an artist to showcase their significant other, especially in the number of videos that he did. Great song, and great reaction. 👍
John was so prophetic in the opening lyric. Everybody's talking but no one says a word. And that's EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON. Social media is the prime example. Everybody's talking chiming in adding their 2 cents spewing their venom and so on and no one is saying a WORD.
This song was released after his death. Yoko used old video to accommodate MTV, but they *were* avant-garde artists who challenged conventional reality, thus the strange action. Yoko was John’s muse. He sang about what it meant to be human.
People have strong feelings (lol) about Yoko, but just look how happy they were. I never resented her to begin with, but the Get Back movie gave me a new appreciation of her relationship with John, and their relationship with the other Beatles.
Russ allert was fught. The song was released December of 1983. Three years after he was murdered after his Grammy winning Double Fantasy album. There's been debates about it being a throwaway from that album or the new one he was recording during time of his murder. His guitar playing is similar to All My Loving by the Beatles. The opening song they did on the Ed Sullivan Show. Interesting fun fact, Capitol Records didn't have faith in the Beatles. But, Chicago area Black/African American owned Vee-Jay Records released their ground breaking "I Want To Hold Your Hand."
Fred Astaire and Dick Cavett being escorted into the room. Love this song . Has a kind of tongue in cheek look at middle age about it. The video is from 1971. The song is from 1980 and was one of the last songs he did before he died.
Amazing song. This was also an amazing "home video" of John and Yoko with some of the most notable and famous people of the era, including TV talk show host Dick Cavett, painter Andy Warhol and jazz musician Miles Davis.
You REALLY need to cover john lennon's "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night" (1974)...a huge hit for him...and was written during his notorious "lost weekend" phase when John was separated from Yoko and dating May Pang. The "weekend" actually lasted from late 1973 thru 1974 to early 1975. John was a hard drinking hard partying night club owl during this time frame. The song has Elton John singing harmony and playing piano on it. 2 saxophone players as well. There is also a live version in NY, besides the studio recording. I like the studio recording better.
There were a lot of celebrities of the time in this video (1980). The song was actually written for Ringo Starr but after John was killed (grrr), Ringo chose to NOT do the song because he didn't want to have the appearance of taking advantage of John's death. Essentially the track was more of a well-produced demo. The album this came from, 'Milk And Honey', was released a couple of years after John's death. It contains a lot of unfinished tracks but showed that John had several potentially really good songs he was working on. It is sad. So very sad.
All of the footage in the video comes from 1969 through 1972 (with most of it coming from the "Imagine" film they made to go with his "Imagine" album and Yoko's "Fly" album. There is no 1980 footage in the video, all of the celebrities are filmed in 1971.
John was planning on finishing milk and honey in 1981, it would have sounded even better, maybe added another song or two,,,,really sad he never dod free as a bird and now and then in studio...........
"Woman" by John would be a great next choice. One of the saddest days of my life, the day he was murdered. 42 years later it still makes me cry. 😢 This song just one of his brilliant compositions. Great reaction. Big Hugs from Canada. ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Seen someone mention it on video of johns music before but it’s so true , can you imagine the library of music the world was denied of having John taken away from us so soon
Klaus Voorman, who was a guy The Beatles befriended during their time in Germany, said that in 1967, he spoke with John on the madness which came with being part of The Beatles. He remarked that John was very unhappy, even bursting into tears with how all of it was driving him insane. Fast-forward two years: John's marriage with Cynthia was done, the Beatles themselves were nearing the End and Yoko came into his life. Voorman met up with John again and said that John was a changed person, gone was all the darkness. This music video reflects that, you can see the almost childlike enthusiasm John had with Yoko.
"Everybody is crying and no one makes a sound..." Mass mind control At the end John was touching to many hearts. The overlords didn't like his influence. His lyrics and expression were hitting to close to home.

These lyrics are timeless. All of us have individual dates that change the course of our life or philosophy forever, no matter how we adapt. For me, that date was 12/08/1980.
This song was released in 1984…. Four years after John passed away…. I think this was his last major hit…. The video is a compilation of scenes from the 70’s … featuring George Harrison, Phil Spector, Fred Astaire, And Dick Cavett … and of course Yoko Ono…. Some interesting songs on this album Milk and Honey….. Grow old with me ….Very touching song.
A surprise unreleased song which came out of nowhere...and a really good one. From the Milk and Honey collection. Also on this, Walking On This Ice, the song John and Yoko were mixing at the studio the night he met his end.
I love The Beatles and Lennon is my favorite Beatle. I prefer his solo stuff to anybody else in the band, and that says quite a bit. I would suggest a whole lot of other Lennon songs like Working Class Hero, God, Jealous Guy, Mother (live at MSG is my fave), Watching The Wheels, or Dont Wanna Be A Soldier.
Earl Slick played lead guitar on this track. Slick played with David Bowie for many years. He was married to Jean Millington, the bass player of the all-female band Fanny. I strongly you recommend checking out Fanny. Especially their live work.
1980 This song was recorded in 80 but it wasn't released until later. It's on the album Milk and Honey. Lennon was kinda starting over with a creative burst when he was gunned down.
John and Yoko were just lovingly being the artists that they were/are in this video and doing all that "bagism" stuff. I have always loved this song since my dad fist played it for me. All they were saying is give peace a chance!, in many different ways.
For me "Watchin' the Wheels" "Woman" and "Beautiful Boy" are the best posthumous Lennon releases. After the senseless and tragic killing of John, his people and friends did a great job of completing tracks that were works in progress - of which this was one.
Don't know the reason she got together with John but he loved her and treated her with respect. She was an Avangard artist. They met at one of her shows
Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) is a wonderful song you should check out. You should listen to the albums Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Mind Games and Sometime in New York City for his activist side
Got to play one of my favorite videos of his "Mind Games". One of his many great songs. He is still dearly missed after all these years the pain of his loss never goes away for us Beatle fans who grew up with him and his mates.👍👍👍👍🤟🙏
Only a portion of it was extremely happy. It had its tumultuous moments as well, and they even split up for over year while John shacked up with their erstwhile personal assistant.
Yoko was a performance artist. They met a one her shows. This video shows some of her influence. They became part of the celebrity scene on the streets of New York . Both Lennon and Warhol were shot by deranged fans.
5:05 I once read that during one of Sean Lennon’s birthday parties Steve Jobs showed him and Andy Warhol the newly released Macintosh computer. Strange days indeed.
I think what Lennon meant was compared to his youth in Liverpool 1940's-50's, living in New York in the 1970's was something nobody he had as a childhood mentor/teacher or family member possessed the wisdom to tell him what to expect. Especially when you're worshipped by millions of people that have no understanding of where or what you come from, who you really are as a human being just trying to be a father/husband/song wrighter without the weight of the whole world on your unsuspecting shoulders
Yoko Ono was John Lennon's muse for most of his music near the end of his run with the Beatles and his solo career. She is generally hated because she gets blamed for the breakup of the Beatles, but they were heading that direction before she was a thing.
The man taking pictures is Andy Warhol (famous painter/artist/icon). The two of you are the living embodiment of a VERY famous quote of his. He said, "in the future, everyone will be famous for fifteen seconds." People always misquote it as "minutes." But he said seconds. So enjoy it while it lasts. I haven't had mine yet. I'm seventy DAMN five years old, I'd better get to steppin'. (I miss Martin Lawrence)
also appearing George Harrison and Dick Cavett with Yoko Ono! This song came out a few years after his death which put the best bow-tie possible on a career tragically shortened in 1980 (incoming administration, VP George Bush, retired CIA director - there's a lot more info than we know :( John held a Freedom for Political Prisoners/Anti-War benefit to capacity at Madison Square Garden in 1973. His phones had been tapped since the 60s and things got weirder for him upon discovering more 'bugs' in and around him. I believe, he was considered too dangerous for the agenda of Reagan/Bush. And John was so happy to finally get his US citizenship. He'd been living in New York since 1974.
John's wife Yoko Ono was his partner in every sense, she was an kind of pop artist and musician playing along side John in the Plastic Ono Band, because there wasn't a video made for this song most of the clips came from home movies that they filmed, you have to remember that a video camera at that time was rare to have and they're two creative people that made art, so using video was another way to make art
The sad thing is that if any up a coming person wrote this song it would never have been heard. This song got on the radio because it was John Lennon. And it is a great song.
His last album, before he was murdered, and the one that Yoko put out after he died, were both very good. Perhaps, that was his best solo material. Thanks, cats.
"I think this was a social commentary " Every breath John took was a social commentary. Nixon tried to kick him out of the country because of his activism.

Your 100% correct...Every thing by the Beatles, even the solo works will carry forward for centuries.

One of my favorite vocal deliveries by John. This song is just perfection.
Love the song. Always did. Watching the Wheels is a vibe also Mind Games and more To me he was a musical genius.
George Harrison, Dick Cavett, Fred Astaire were all in this video with him and Yoko. That's pretty strange already.

Best John song - still makes me cry
The sad thing is that if any up a coming person wrote this song it would never have been heard.
This song got on the radio because it was John Lennon. And it is a great song.
Great content as always
Nobody has done Kraftwerk the model yet..
You 2 would do it well
His last album, before he was murdered, and the one that Yoko put out after he died, were both very good. Perhaps, that was his best solo material. Thanks, cats.
"I think this was a social commentary "
Every breath John took was a social commentary.
Nixon tried to kick him out of the country because of his activism.
We (as a society) are focused on the wrong things. What if life is just about being alive, not acquiring, just living.
