Utility knife is the old school way I was taught and most still Do - and we sparkys usually have a pretty full utility blade anyway 😂 or now, Just buy a pair of the strippers with the notches for 12/2 and 14/2 - you can do all common sizes Klein, Ideal, southwire, now Milwaukee even makes them
I always worry that the specialized tool will nick the insulation on the wires inside. But I grew up using a "Stanley Knife" (razor knife). Is there an even better tool that aligns the wires so that they can't get nicked?
One of really good ways to strip as far as the outer casing goes, make a cut right in the middle of the wire, then pull from the middle not too much though you don't want to bend the other little, wires to much anyway if it's newer the casing should slide right off nicely a 3rd of the work is done all ready, all you got to do is remove the paper casing on the bare bright wire, and sometimes the other 2 have the one coat casing that usually comes off smooth as butter, also Amazon sells knife sharpeners for like 10 bucks they are actually excellent so if you have a good blade but you don't care if you damage over time but it just needs a service purpose they are excellent for keeping them sharp with q few swipes
Maybe someone can help me. The yellow outer sheathing has small rips in them. Is that ok? The inner wires are fine just the outer insolation has occasional holes
Really depends.. if you’re sure there is no damage then wrap it with electrical tape, but it’s not up to code. Typically it has to be replaced. Sounds like when it was run it hit something sharp.. like roofing nails in attic

What strippers would you recommend for stripping 14/3 and 12/3 flat and round sheaths?
Thank you in advance?
Thanks
Thank you

I love Irwin auto strippers.. does sheathing and insulated wire in seconds
I have 2 of them and use them daily. Best tool in my electrical bag. Highly recommended. It will do Romex sheath and wires with two clicks.
You should have told us about the Lil' Ripper Stripper and Gardner Bender stripper
Your methods are not very fast when you look for productivity
You missed the best and easiest one. The ideal stripper. Works well especially with longer pieces such as in a panel.

If you’re doing electrical work at home and you feel the *slightest bit* unsafe, call an electrician. It’s not worth your life
Apparently they don't make one for 12/3 and 14/3.
This is a joke right?
