Fyi the weight of this camper and its twin the 992 (which i just purchased in june ) is more than they state, depends on options of course. My camper wet and ready to roll weighed 4750 lbs from my dealers lot. So if you are looking at these campers you will need a 1 ton dually with a minimum of 6,000 lb payload capacity. My truck was specifically ordered for this type of camper. It is a ram 3500 4x4 quad cab 8' bed, tradesmen, snowplow prep, b&w goose hitch, ram factory air system, 6.4 hemi, yes i got the gas engine with the 8 speed trans and i upgraded to the 4:10 ratio gears in the rear end. Huge weight savings. My truck has a payload rating of 6,450 lbs, gvwr is 14,000 lbs. I have added the roadmaster anti sway bar in the rear, as it does not come with it from the factory. It does come with one up front with the snow plow prep package with other suspicion upgrades included. Like i said these type of campers will be heavier than advertised so plan for it. Im glad i did. Happy camping.
Agreed - it seems like all of the camper manufacturers come in way over sticker weight when it comes to campers. Our 1150 is a little under 5500lbs loaded. Sounds like you have a great setup!
My dad carried this and towed a 17.5' boat over the continental divide with a 2004 dodge 2500 diesel. Never had any problems. But of course insurance would be an issue if you got in a wreck
I am looking this very same model truck camper and I am looking for advice on how many solar panels are how many batteries are needed to be out off grid camper for extended periods of time and be completely comfortable with also using the on-board generator.
If you watch our latest video on our channel we will show you the exact setup we use to make that possible :) the links for everything is in the description of that video as well. Let us know if you have any other questions
I like these camper at me being 6’6” the bathroom is a let down. Not going to stand outside bathroom to brush teeth and sit down to shower. Not enough head room😢
The 990 is meant for a 1 ton truck 8ft bed minimum to haul safely. Feel free to call Niemeyers Trailer Sales in Albertville, MN if you'd like to chat about compatibility :)
No way in hell a 996 is 3000 pounds. I have an 811 (smallest slide out) and it’s 5000 pounds. Its mounted on a Chevy 2500 HD 6.0 gas with 1300 pound additional leaf springs, air bags and sway bar. More important are your rims. I’ve cracked the spokes on two sets. Stay with steel rims. You must upgrade your tires to 4080 pounds Load E (Coopers AT Discovery) for stiffer sidewalls. Beware of quality issues. Faucet cracked internally at the mold line, 2 weeks the hot water heater controls burnt out, loose main battery cable (fell out). Slide out wasn’t aligned correctly. Finally the shower curtain is 2 inches too short. Pluses. The shower area is large, cab over allows you to sit up in bed. Curved ceiling makes interior feel huge. 811 and 996 are great two person campers.
@@usmcshepherdE9 if you contact Niemeyers Trailer Sales in Albertville they can give you a rough timeline. Usually it depends on how many orders come in for each model. I think Northwoods is making more 990 or 992 models right now.
All that and No Electric plug around Stove?..Maybe you don’t want to mess with propane and would like to use hot plates or crock pots,,, where do you plug in a coffee pot?..

AF 990 is 3000LBS Dry. My fathers old 2004 AF 990 was 3300 Dry.
Why hasn’t AF joined the truck camper industry and provide a lithium battery/inverter option from the factory? Nice camper!
Maybe someday! That would be a great option
@@InfiniteExplorers what is the current timeline on ordering a camper? I think you are the closest dealer for us in Iowa?

5k pounds fully loaded with water, propane, batteries, 595lb mandatory options, then actual options on top of that

There's a plug next to the fan above the counter by the stove :)
Why , do you not look so interested in this model , a homeless person would die for the chance to dwell in a camper lie that 😢
He's probably the bosses kid. 😮
