In the comics sure, but in the cinematic universe? I'm actually sort of hoping that their, "relationship," in Suicide Squad and the few appearances they've had so far is going to turn out to be Joker's manipulation. But so far, they haven't dropped very many hints that it'll turn out that way. Most people don't read the comics, so if they end up making them have a good relationship in the cinematic universe, then people will continue to ship them and try to make their relationships as similar as they can.
Anyone who tries to model their romantic relationships after cartoon villains isn't going to get any more mentally healthy by the cinematic universe acknowledging that it's abusive. What I saw in suicide squad as someone largely unfamiliar with what's cannon or not was very obviously abusive. It's clear she was rendered insane and compliant by a manipulative sociopath as part of his escape plan. It depicts a very fanciful idea of what electroshock does to people, but abusive intent is clear. They don't seem to be romanticizing their relationship, glossing over the abuse as you imply. If fans don't appreciate the magnitude of their abusive relationship, it's because they don't want to see it. They may still be turning a blind eye to abuse in their own lives or families, thinking that's what love is. DC comics is not responsible for this age old problem, people have been struggling to deal with domestic violence for all of human history. We only recently have experts telling us this isn't normal. Victims won't see this as abuse until they are ready to leave.

Except Lucy is in Injustice and that's not canon to any main storyline. It's set in its own universe created by Netherrealm and completely separate. Batman Beyond movie is related to animated series canon that only includes what is shown in BTAS, batman beyond, and Justice League and their movies.

I feel bad for her in the new 52 storyline because they took away her choice. Joker basically forced her into becoming Harley while in her first origin story, she instead chose herself to become Harley. This self-determination made her character more complex and her actions that much more genuine, crazed, deadly, etc.In both I feel bad for her because of the abuse she suffers at the hands of the joker, but I feel less bad for her in her first origin story because she chose that life for herself. In New 52 SS, Joker was there because Harley was breaking away from Joker and is the start of being her own character not Joker's bitch. Just read the New 52 SS and you'll see why since the movie is adapted from New 52 after all not from Assault on Arkham because the comics is also where that animated movie got the Joker/Harley idea

That lesbian thing with Ivy is not canon (thats Elseworlds stuff) and Harley was a part of the Gotham Sirens with Ivy and Selina/Catwoman, which was canon, so the suggestion that DC wants her fans to forget about her "lesbian past with Ivy" is just false. Ugh I hate how they're meshing all these universes together. Classic Harley is a different character to New 52 Harley, and Bombshells and Injustice obviously take more after classic, but are still in different universes with her developing different relationships. There are really very few of these that they want us to forget. I think the main one their pushing under the rug is that she ever loved joker at all. Half the current stories have been about her getting away from him, which in a way defeats the main purpose of her character: she's crazy and doesn't care about his abuse because of her love for him. Although their relationship wasn't a healthy one, constantly rehashing the "I'm not putting up with him any more" makes her story lose impact. We've heard it before, now go do something without moping about how the joker hurt you. You're still not your own person yet if your main character trait is not loving that guy anymore.

Actually, since the cartoon show birthed the character and all of the subsequent comic backstory is retconned, the only "true" backstory is the one provided by the cartoon. Which is that her name was Harlene Quinzell (Harley Quinn is what it was shortened to by Joker) and she was his psychiatrist at Arkham asylum. She fell in love with him while treating him (Joker actively seduced her, actually) and she willingly succumbed to her obsession and went mad, breaking Joker out of the prison and becoming his partner-in-crime. Joker is, however, abusive towards her and she spends a lot of time torn between loving him and knowing she doesn't deserve the way he treats her.
Not only was her original appearance supposed to be a cameo, but it was made a moot point when the final story ended up having the Joker pop out of the cake anyway.

This self-determination made her character more complex and her actions that much more genuine, crazed, deadly, etc.In both I feel bad for her because of the abuse she suffers at the hands of the joker, but I feel less bad for her in her first origin story because she chose that life for herself. That lesbian thing with Ivy is not canon (thats Elseworlds stuff) and Harley was a part of the Gotham Sirens with Ivy and Selina/Catwoman, which was canon, so the suggestion that DC wants her fans to forget about her "lesbian past with Ivy" is just false. Especially since she is bisexual in her current solo comic series (although, I dont know if that's considered canon or not by DC).

Classic Harley is a different character to New 52 Harley, and Bombshells and Injustice obviously take more after classic, but are still in different universes with her developing different relationships. They were never a thing in Gotham City Sirens or anything around that time. I guess DC and its different universes can get confusing, but it annoys me when they get mixed.
Ok, idc if its not canonically confirmed that she is gay for ivy because its just obvious. You read Harley comics, you get that her and Ivy are gay for eachother and most likely have had sex, they have been shown kissing multiple times in the comics and being flirtatious with eachothr, in another comic Harley forces ivy to the ground and Ivy smiles, Harley is about to start making out with her but then the doorbell rings and they get up. Many of these comics that show this stuff are canon and her current solo is cannon as well, proving she is bisexual and since you now know for a fact she is bi then you should easily know she is with ivy sometimes. If you had any doubts b4 about Harleys sexuality because maybe you thought that she was just being flirty? Which I actually did originally and didn't think she was bi but then I strongly suspected she was after a little while, I couldn't be sure until it was confirmed though and now that it is, its obv about he and ivy, and also Harley and other random women I would venture to think. Many, many Harley comcis it shows she is obv into women, for example, in one comic Harley is at a beach with some random girlfriends from a fight club and she is gonna swim with them naked, they all get naked and Harley is blushing and commenting on how great there body's look. Then when they are swimming she pretends to be a shark and bites there butts, which could be passed off as fun but also I think it was sexual. Harley in another comic was in a play and there was a woman in the play with her in like a space suit, Harley took her alien suit off and then took the other woman's space helmet off (it may have been a bit diff but I remember the gist of this) and then she went and tongue kissed her and the other woman kissed back and Harley stopped after like2-3 panels and then smiled and wiped spit/slobber off her mouth and lips while the play's creator hollered at her from below to stay on script and that the alien was seposed to fight the space woman not kiss her. Anyway, im not gonna name any more times that it was made quite blatantly obv that Harley was Bi, and especially that she was gay for Ivy at least but I mean, come on people, she is. Its obv. There are really very few of these that they want us to forget. I think the main one their pushing under the rug is that she ever loved joker at all. Half the current stories have been about her getting away from him, which in a way defeats the main purpose of her character: she's crazy and doesn't care about his abuse because of her love for him. Although their relationship wasn't a healthy one, constantly rehashing the "I'm not putting up with him any more" makes her story lose impact. We've heard it before, now go do something without moping about how the joker hurt you. You're still not your own person yet if your main character trait is not loving that guy anymore.
