Looked cold for you, guess your father had to go off to work? I really don´t get why you do not opt for a large plastic container to catch the water, being light and I bet people throw them too? But then you could have a straight length of the PVC pipe you used to easily connect to it and take it further. Another option, would be to use one sheet of tin roofing?
