Using a Champion 2200Watt petrol inverter generator to recharge my Citroen Ami Pop electric quadricycle.
The Ami has a range of only about 40 miles and often requires a top up charge when out on longer trips. If there are no suitable charge stations available, the generator will be able to give the necessary boost.
The Ami's onboard charger consumes up to about 1760watts maximum and the Champion generator can supply a constant 1900watts.
During the charging test, the generator was supplying 1648watts of power.
In one hour the generator supplied 1.633kWh and this increased the range from 6 miles to 19 miles (a 13 mile increase). The generator used 0.9 Quarts (0.225 Imp. Gallons) of petrol. This equates to 57.72 mpg. As the Ami gets about 7.5% less range than actually shown, the actual consumption would be about 53.25 mpg. Petrol in the UK currently costs GBP £6.50 per gallon and this gives a cost per mile of £0.12. When charging on the domestic electric supply the cost per mile is about £0.06.

I really love your road runner coyote sticker on the back! Also love your videos on owning an Ami. It's such a treat to see someone who knows how to look after a vehicle and make it just work.

I'm worried that new charging infrastructure will concentrate on ultra-fast DC charging and not support AC charging for Amis and similar.

It is a pity that the Ami does not have an opening luggage space in the rear. I was thinking of making a hinging rear section.

The portable garage does get a lot of condensation especially as it is on a gravel surface. I put tarpaulins on top of most things to catch drips.

One serious problem is how modern petrol ages and keeping the generators petrol fresh. I know this from my own generator and petrol lawn mowers having to buy new Carburettors.

It is recommended to use a fuel stabilizer and to drain the generator if left for more than a month.
