Another option to consider: add a velcro tab above the wood toggle. During transport or moving between shooting stages you can have the flap closed and toggled. When you think you're going to go hot, undo the toggle and let the velcro be the primary retainer. Combine this with your sock method or a glued or velcro'd piece of closed-cell foam at the bottom of each mag pouch to raise the height of the mag just enough to allow the flaps to still close and toggle (but no more). These will make mag exchanges with the chicom rigs much more comfortable. I think people should be a little adventurous with the old chicom rigs or current reproductions. They are cheap enough that you can buy more than one and experiment with different hacks and mods. Removing the grenade pouches and replacing with molle or directly sewn radio or admin pouches, adding a buckle to the waist strap, etc.
Even better hack use some shock cord and make soft shackles for the top Buy some blocks of planters foam and cut them to fit the bottom of the pouch. I have mine cut to 2.5”. They’re cheap, rigid and fairly durable. Now when you close your pouch adjust that soft shackle to size so you have the tension you want. Place the tied end on the wood toggle and that’s your new pull tab You can make some mag pulls as well. Super easy with 550 chord. Did it all the time when enlisted. 03-09 good times
Radio pouch hack. Attach a rubber band to the loop on the weak side grenade pouch to extend the toggle closure. Now you have a quick access pouch that will stretch over a radio. Tie a knot in the rubber band for a pull tab. Make sure to lock the keypad and buy a PTT guard to you don't hot mic or change channels when you move around. You can use a shoulder mic if you loop the cord so the coiled portion of the cord comes up out of the corner of the pouch. Stuff the coiled cord back down the pouch and clip the shoulder mic to the pouch when not in use. Mess around with it for a bit and you'll figure out what works for you. I'm using the waterproof UV9R with shoulder mic.
If you have the flap opened like that the magazines will fly out if you do running or crawling (If your playing airsoft or a soldier in the battlefield) But if your shooting in the flat range, then it will do.

Don’t use socks use something that wont absorb water, your shoulders will appreciate less weight.

I suggest against not using the flaps as your magazine will fly out.
Add some kiwi mag retention inserts into the mag pouches that’s what I did
Brudda do u think WBP jack is a good first ak? New to the 7.62 game
It definitely is. I loved mine while I had it.
PSO 1 scope?

I don’t believe this guy is going to be soldiering anytime soon
I tuck my flaps and have never had a problem running around and going prone.
I also don't use a spacer though so the mags sit deep in the pouch.
Why are you wearing like a belly rig?
because I can (Chicom chest rig Type 81)
