    This stuff is really amazing, keep up the updates. Looking forward to seeing the cutdishiner and what it does with it before baling. The stalks are what has me worried about mine. Looking fantastic for the little rain that has come this year 👍

    Keep us updated on the sorghum. I was going to plant 4 acres the first week of July but had zero moisture until this week so I guess I'm going to put it in rye and try sorghum next year.

    We took 3 cuttings off of Sudan grass.
    We would cut at about 3 feet on a normal year.
    I don't consider this a normal year.
    Those might be large windrows.

    We had a little dry spell and then several good rains. That's when the crops around here have really taken off crazy. That will make some nice cattle feed.

    • @LVFFarmVlogs

      We have had streaks of wet then dry. The 3 weeks of no rain and 90 plus heat really hurt the hay production. Hot and dry too early

    Something I have yet to hear an answer to... I've heard people cutting and baling soybeans for hay. Yet the beans have to be roasted to cook the toxins out, wether for human or livestock consumption... At what point do the beans become toxic??? And what makes hay different than just the beans??
    Good old fashioned Sudan can get tall!! An old dairy down the road used to green chop it, usually 12' tall when they chopped, they'd get 3 or 4 cuttings.
    I've been on chopping crews when we chopped 12'+ late planted Sudan too...
    Looking good Brad!!

      With soybeans its the oil in the seed, but for years I've ground and fed soybeans and have never had an issue, so i really can't say!

    For the first time i was going to seed some sudangrass . The plan was to drill it in after the winterbarley , but barley-harvest was late this year , better wait till next year and going for Italian Ryegrass this year.

    That stuff really grows. I planted some on may 26. Was worried I screwed up because we had a week of really cold wet weather after and they say you need the soil temp to be pretty warm but it came up fine and is all headed out now. do you windrow it first then run your conditioner over it or just hit it with the cutditioner? I find fall is a better time to kill alfalfa.

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  3 года назад

      I'll cut it with the moco, then run the cutditioner over it on the 2nd or 3rd day

    Would really like the updates...what rate did you seed it lbs per acre and did you put any fertilizer with it??

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  3 года назад +2

      Sudex 20# per acre, soybeans 40# per acre. Only fertility is from spring grazing the oats and winter rye. 2nd field i applied 150# of potash, 100# of AMS and 50# of urea

  • @farmingforfunandprofit940
    @farmingforfunandprofit940 3 года назад

    When I was Dairying I would set the outside rows on a 4 row planter to plant Soybeans and the inside rows to plant corn and the insecticide hopper dribble sorghum at about 4lbs to the acre.... That way when I chopped I would mix 1 row of each together....... If I didn't give the beans room the corn/ sorghum would shade them out.....I usually could get some second cut off the sorghum before frost if I could get nitrogen to the sorghum when it started to regrow

    Why not chop and pile on top of corn silage

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  3 года назад

      Going to silage bale them for the cows, then out winter. I dont want to have the sudex mix with the silage corn and throw off the energy levels in the corn silage, plus it would be hard to keep consistency and the nutritionist would probably shoot me! 🤣🤣

    How long do you usually let it set before you bale it?

    • @LVFFarmVlogs
      @LVFFarmVlogs  3 года назад

      Depends on the weather. If the weather cooperates I will leave it lay until I can bale it and not have to wrap it. Last year if I would have left it lay 2 more days I think it would have been dry enough but I got impatient!
