  • The author of 'Lucas Mangope: A Life', Oupa Segalwe and public servant, Nelson Kgwete join Aldrin Sampear to detail the life of the controversial Bophuthatswana leader and his subsequent loss of power. The book navigates Mangope's style of leadership that critics label as complex, but clouded with self-enrichment.

Some of the political leaders (highly respected) took a conscious decision to hate their black leaders but loved the apartheid leaders. Apartheid leaders like PW Botha and De Klerk were highly respected despite substantial evidence over atrocity they presided over.
People of Northwest can compare themselves the development they received during Mangope leadership and poverty and suffering today. The province has huge volume of mineral but poor service delivery and poverty is their daily bread.

Kgosi Mangope was a sharp inconvenience to the Marxist-influenced idea that the liberation movement relied on: that black people could not work and grow their own economy- that there always has to be a guilty aggressor and virtue lay in being the victim. To this day every ANC leader’s speech in parliament begins with a reminder of apartheid and I suspect that tradition will continue perpetually.

In what ever way you discribe the the old man. We lived well with no fear when we walk the streets of our neighborhood.

Mandela labeling Chief Mangope as a hallucinating hitler is preposterous. I'd rather praise Kgosi Manyane Mangope than a treasonous individual like mandela who sought to overthrow the government rather than work with it and use the law against them.
That makes Ntate Mangope a genius worthy of respect and recognition. Indeed he was successful, the level of individual freedom, law & order and free enterprise he introduced within the homeland was incomparable, Bophuthatswana was heaven on earth.

These guys are very clear especially when it comes to the performance of these former TBVC states supervised by the then South African government and other Western countries, the ANC had some of it's exiles who did not care much about it's MDM structures and care about occupying the levers of the state as a result people had to patronize some of the former guerillas in order to contribute to other state departments and SOEs and it was worse after 2009

  • @paullamola2317

ANC was jealous of Mangope’s achievements. If it didn’t fight against it, Mangope would have risen above them.
This book is about trashing Mangope. The writers and critics in this book had parents too and they did nothing. They were the backbenchers.
It’s very easy to criticise when you’re at the back. This book is nonsense.
