It's easy to slag this off by looking at the GFX but that is very narrow minded, it's quite a fun little racing management game, the tactics work, you feel like you are running a team, it cuts out all the bullshit you get from the big F1 games that simply copy and paste themselves every year for the masses. And more importantly this dev has an eye for good gameplay and I for one am very happy to give his game some publicity, who knows in 5 years time this dev could be making a GOTY, everyone starts somewhere and I believe in supporting devs that show some talent.
Seems way better in gameplay than that overly produced F1 manager we get these days. That one just feels shallow. Will give this one a go, looks fun. Did have a laugh with Maldonado on the side of the track in the race you were showing at the end.
Thanks for taking my suggestion from the Monthly Update video, Mack! (If you indeed did - I was the only one to suggest it). In a way, Golden Lap is to Motorsport Manager like what Art of Rally is to DiRT Rally - a stylized, simplified, easy to switch on and off game. I love Motorsport Manager but once you get into a season/try a new series it can get obtuse fairly quickly. Not that that's a bad thing - but by contrast, GL has far more ease of access. And it goes without saying that the F1 Manager games are buggy, incomplete shite and not worth anyone's money or time. I've only fiddled around with this demo a bit, but their previous game, Art of Rally, is a gem. That's how I knew of this game. Give that one a look if the summer months are slow. It's a classic in my opinion - and a must have on the Steam Deck.
This seems like a dramatically stripped down version of Motorsport Manager. Which Mack if you haven't played you will probably adore. Plus the insane amount of mods on the Steam Workshop.
I remember all the early football management Sims on the C64. Imagination was what made them great. Modern games take away the imagination factor - the whole point of games.

There was a hand held soccer (football) game I had as a kid back in the early 80's. It had red lights, literally. That's it. I could not stop playing it. In my mind I could picture the players on the field. Graphics aren't everything. I'll check this game out based on your recommendation.
If you want a game like this but with actual graphics showing cars racing in dynamic weather, with the option of choosing open wheel, endurance or sports car racing, with several classes, building your own team from the ground up or jumping right into the top class, which inspired the actual F1 manager games, go get Motorsport Manager. It is also much cheaper than the F1 manager game.
why base it in the 70s when at that time they didnt even use hard, medium or soft tyres? it was just slicks or radials (treaded), i know nit picking..Maybe some licensing fees would apply if they used a more recent time period ?
Echoes of Kenny Dalglish: Soccer Manager, Commodore 64. Always managing Kettering, for some reason. Not about what you could see, but what you could do.
i reckon best was 70s F1, it was still accessible to completely wild entrants (Eifeland, Hesketh, Tecno, Connew, (probably another ATS) etc.) some did it because they were just mad lads some did it because they had no idea what they are getting into and i do not even dare guess why the multitude of Italian teams (no doubt born out of conflict with Enzo Ferrari) justified their spitefull crussade. Sure there were crazy teams all the way up untill 90s, last decent decade of the sport, but none were as crazy as as 60s-80s random teams. Coming from the makers of Art of Rally an Absolute Drift, I have to say I'm dissapointed. I hope they return to normal racing gameplay on the next title, it was awesome.
Well, the graphic is not much worse than Football Manager, that for me is still nowadays the best sport videogame on the market. And the one that steal more of my time.

Football Manager 2* doesn't look much more sophisticated, but then, that's not what matters if the game has depth and rewarding strategy elements. 👍 Actually Football Manager on the Vic-20 wasn't much less sophisticated looking...
Well at least the drivers aren’t 60% female like in Motorsport Manager. While I’m a huge Michele Mouton fan, even she would acknowledge that women just don’t compete in F1, so having over half the drivers be female is weird.
