      He says a lot without saying anything insightful. His one core point about republican politicians just wanting to screw voters, he gives as evidence “regressive” tax cut and he’s just wrong. It goes back WAY longer than the seventies. The founding fathers specifically dismissed the idea of 'democracy'. They basically took the Roman idea of a Republic, and added some of the first nations policies of confederacy.
    But you just read their letters and documents, specifically the charter. THere is only liberty FROM government, there is NO liberty TO partake in government in any meaningful and democratic way.
    At least there is an option, about half the US states looked at the swiss model and then brought in Citizens Initiatives to make state laws and hold the House responsible.
    Mike Gravel was the last presidential candidate to talk about that. But by now the voting population is basically the partisan system, and with the first past the post system there is virtually NO way to even get dissident voices anywhere near government.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 Год назад

      In an ACTUAL democracy the autocracy is the people. For a simple example, lets go to the state of Maine right now. They are having a citzens initiative referendum on the 'right to repair'. If passed, that would force manufacturers selling in the state to provide information and parts.
      IF it passes, that becomes law. Thats 'autocratic' meaning its a decision to be made law. At a state next door where they DON"T have Citizens Inititiatives that 'autocracy' comes from a house of legislators, who maybe get money from corporations and no way in hell do that want that law.
      In Switzerland at EVERY level of government, including the federal, they have Citizens initiatives which lets people FORCE a referendum with signatures. Finland brought it to the federal level ten years ago. Thats not exactly 'democracy', but a hell of a lot closer than not, and nobody seems to have any complaints about it. Autocracy is the VERY opposite of 'democracy'.
      Why in gods name people would want what some rich white guy wanted centuries ago is a mystery to me.

    It’s hilarious that he only trashes the republicans and not democrats. Doesn’t he know that they’re a uniparty? They’re both exactly the same, they just appear different on the outside because of the cultural differences.

      They are in no way exactly the same nowadays. And, he's trashed Democrats for years. Have you not watched or read any of his material going back to the 60's? He criticizes Republicans more now because of how unhinged they've become.

      He says from the outset that they are two corporate parties. He's also said that the democrats are what the republicans USED to be, and that the republicans are just crazy. When you only have republican and crazy, not a suprise which he'd choose.

      It's how vaccines work. It's not different than not letting kids into schools without vaccines for things like polio.

      @@jonm7888 These vaccines have not been fully tested and therefore not reliable yet, unlike the vaccines for polio. This is the difference.
