    My son owns a total of six Music Man instruments-four guitars and two basses-and their playability and attention to detail are truly on another level. We've never had any issues with them, and they stay perfectly in tune. He’s tried Fender and Gibson but doesn’t enjoy them as much. I handle the restringing for him, and I absolutely love the locking tuners on these guitars-they make the process so much easier!

    When I add up the preferences & favorites of guitarists on their opinions on the best made production guitars (excluding collectibles, boutique builds, Murphy Labs 'hipsterizing'), Music Man, Duesenberg, ESP, US-made PRS & Suhr are always the top of the list. Almost unanimously, the Music Man tuner configuration is the absolute best. Someone whose focus is on the music - it tends to be Music Man & Suhr at the top. Lots of custom shop Fenders & Gibson of course, but the guitars that are actually worth their full price based on their quality - they deserve more respect. Especially the brands that don't make cheaper versions of themselves to cash in on Indonesian labor. Nothing wrong with that, there are incredibly skilled builders in China & Indonesia but it lessens the brand due to the corners cut & the hardware compromises.
    When I see a Music Man selling for $3700, I know it's a $3700 guitar. Yet another Gibson copy of a '59 Les Paul with hipster-wear will cost you $10k. That's $10k for a $2300 guitar. Nothing wrong with it, but paying someone else to put fake wear on your guitar is as inauthentic as watching puppets schtupp.
    Buying a Music Man is investing in an American instrument, made in, and by, Americans. Being nationalistic isn't what it's about, hell, I'm Canadian - but here's your chance to get $3700 worth of guitar for $3700. I love Suhr guitars, but find them a bit overpriced for what you're getting. Their configurator is my favorite online toy. I'm saving up now for a Lukather 4 30th anniversary model.

      To be noted, Ernie Ball DOES have a cheaper version of themselves that are made overseas using cheap labor...the Sterling brand. Still good guitars in their own right and ,like you said, nothing wrong with it. So does PRS and ESP now that you mention it....just sayin'

    I wandered into the London Bass Centre (Wapping) one day in 1998 to buy a set of Rotosounds and came out 30 minutes later with a black Sterling bass which I fell in love with at first sight and touch! I think £1,100.00 in those days. Still a favourite bass of mine and hugely adaptable with 3 band EQ - records like a dream.

    • @theshapeexists
      @theshapeexists 9 месяцев назад

      When have you ever needed to help a neck bend TOWARDS 180 pounds of string tension?! Music man properly cures their wood before making their necks. If it was an issue, they wouldn't be using it. John petrucci plays the same instruments around the world, literally in all climates and temps. You think if their most famous artist ever doesn't need a double action truss rod then it's probably fine right? In my 30 years of playing and my current 18 guitars and basses, I've never needed a dual action truss rod ever, from dry ass Colorado, to cold Minnesota and humid Florida.

    • @LMerchant01
      @LMerchant01 9 месяцев назад

      @@theshapeexists Ive had a few guitars where I had to turn the double action truss rod counter clockwise. Got 2 right now in my collection Both brand new guitars. I also have a couple guitars where the truss rod is all the way slackened and the neck dead straight. really would be nice if those had double actions so I could get some relief .

    Those tops look thin. I know they are thicker than a veneer but I still don't consider that a full maple cap. It's not just Music Man that does this. I've seen Schecter, Fender, Kiesel and most major brands. For me to consider a guitar to have a full size maple cap, it should be as thick as the top on a Gibson Les Paul. By the time these thin maple caps are put onto a guitar and sanded down. They are to thin in my book to advertise them as a full thickness maple cap. I understand it's to cut cost. At least put a thick piece of plain maple and then a flame veneer. Just to be clear! I'm NOT ragging on Music Man but most of the big brands that do the same thing. If Epiphone can put the same size maple top on their Les Paul's. I feel a company that sales a guitar for 3 to 4 times the price of an Epi. They can put a thicker piece of maple on their guitar.

    • @zuperdee
      @zuperdee 9 месяцев назад +5

      It’s NOT just about cost. The Les Paul is an unusual case. The reason it has such a thick maple cap is because it has a precise ratio of mahogany/maple that is considered an essential part of its tonal character. By comparison, maple is NOT an essential part of the tonal character of most other guitars. That maple cap is also the single biggest reason that even a chambered Les Paul can still typically weigh in the 8-9lb range. For this reason, most people (myself included) do NOT want Les Paul-style maple caps on their guitars. A veneer or a thin cap is all that’s needed to create the LOOK on a guitar, without imparting its tone or weight in the mix.

      @@davet.3587 Uh, you do realize that set necks are glued in the body, no? Even if they use bolt-on necks instead of set necks, they still have to use glue to join body pieces together, to glue caps/veneers to the front, and to glue the fretboard to the neck shaft… Even neck-through guitars typically have wings glued on to form the body. I don’t see how one can avoid using glue altogether in making a guitar.

    • @ValNanovsky
      @ValNanovsky 9 месяцев назад +1

      MM have lost their touch with reality when it comes to prices. They seem to be forgetting the simple fact that the audience they are selling to consists of regular working people, not Rockafellers. I once used to dream about a JP MM guitar. I am not even dreaming about it anymore. Add to that the fact that their necks, from my experience with multiple guitar brands and types of wood, seem to be the MOST sensitive to temp and humidity fluctuations, and require frequent and DRASTIC setups - at least here in the Northeast. Not my cup of tea.
      …It is interesting to see their factory though. I’ve always been fascinated with how guitars are being built with automated processes. Cool video.

    For a company that has supposedly made guitars for 50 years, I've never once seen one.

    • @everythingbobbywolfe

      Supposedly?? They have ACTUALLY been in business for over 50 years.
      $4000 for a guitar, well, you're right. The consumer is paying for the machines. Those are starting at $250k and probably topping out at 2 million. Even paying shit wages, they can't get ahead unless those American price tags go up to 3-4k.
      Went to Martin years back and couldn't imagine 4k for what I was seeing, but when you add the machinery, amount produced each day, salary, taxes, promotion, increased wood pricing and charges...I can believe any of them stay in business under 5k per.

    Everyone that has a MM guitars loves them.
    I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about MM USA made guitars.
    I’ve never owned one.
    I did buy a Majesty in Arctic Dream (non gloss) one time and the store
    assured me, that MM would clear coat it for an up charge
    (I don’t like flat finishes). Anyway, they spoke to MM and they refused to
    Clear Coat it! So, the store asked me to call MM and I talked to Sterling.
    He said, that they don’t do that, he made the conversation short.
    The store refunded my money.
    Hey MM “ (Sterling)”, I think that it was bad business and short sighted.
    it wouldn’t have taken much to make a new customer happy.
    I guess that he did take my suggestion, after that model, they do now
    use a Gloss Finish on the Majesty.
    ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️😢😢😢😢😢
    Music Man ( Sterling), I know that I’m just 1 nobody to you,
    but the way you handled this situation left a bad taste.
    I ended up buying a Tele made of Real Brazilian Rosewood.
    I also have a Strat made of the same BR wood.

    Why in the hell would anyone still be using a single action trussrod in 2024...especially on such an overpriced instrument?

    • @zuperdee
      @zuperdee 9 месяцев назад +5

      One possible reason: A dual action truss rod adds more weight, and some feel that it negatively affects tone. It’s also possible that they have enough confidence in their neck wood selection and shaping that that they feel it’s not necessary to counteract a possible back-bow in their necks. Music Man is better even than PRS when it comes to quality control and consistency, so I have full confidence in their abilities.

      I've been playing for almost 30 years. I currently own 18 guitars and basses. I've never once needed a dual action truss rod. And if you've ever played music man, they're incredible instruments. Expensive yes, but you get what you pay for. And American made instruments are pricey because American labor isnt cheap. This is a state of the art facility with top tier materials, machinery, and work force. Dual action truss rods are unnecessary. I've never needed a rod to do anything other than counteract string tension. Have you?
