I started skating as a hobby, not taking lessons just practicing on my own. Have to say this is one of the best videos I've seen so far, you're a great teacher! A lot of videos I've been lookg at, people tend to either give not enough info (nothing about what edge to use, shoulders, etc.), or they just spit out a stream of technical jargon, without breaking it down, that's impossible to follow. This was just right!
Vandal49 Hey, that's great. So glad you find it helpful.
THINICE uhh do you have any tips for scratch spin or stuff
You couldn't be more right !!! brilliant tutorials

Okay so I started figure skating about 3 months ago because in all honesty, Yuri On Ice and Johnny Weir inspired me. I am in basic 5 and I have to learn how to waltz jump for a show.
Ayyy I started for the same reasons 3 months ago and am in basic 3 XD
I just started due to the same reasons lmao
i’m in basic 3 but i can do everything in basic 3 so i’m trying to learn other things.

You should make a video of just doing warm ups, eg; rockets, spirals on edge, cross rolls etc.
It would be useful to know what kind of warm ups are good before doing jumps and spins
I love how you break the jumps down into sections. In all my years of skating only now I finally can confidently execute these jumps! I need to get lessons with you!

You, sir, are the most useful and amazing person on RUclips!!! Thank you so very much for making all of these incredible videos. I've been figure skating for a year now, and with the hopes of landing a consistent Axel by the end of 2018, I am rewatching all of these videos and trying to perfect my singles as much as I can.
Ah, the memories... I learned this move so long ago and I hated my private lessons so I quit them, and I used to be on a figure skating team but I quit that too. I still regret giving up on ice skating... This is the one move that I'm still able to do after all these years. ☺️
I went to figure skating lessons but i didnt really learn anything, so i came across this! I learned this in like 4 minutes! This is amazing. Thank you so much! I subscribed for sure!
awesome, thanks for subscribing :)
Your tutorials are a great help. Thank you!!!!
Your detail explanation of form posture weight and balance has helped me better understand how practice appropriately. Thanks for vid. Hope u upload more
HIROKO
Hiroko Gamer I'm glad it helps :)
I still have rental skates so once I get my real ones, I'll try this
Yury Hope you have your own skates now. The difference is incredible for comfort. Also hire skates a rarely sharpened so it makes you a bit all over the place.
I got used to hire skates when I was a beginner figure skater (2015) I did the waltz and I tried the salchow loll, but my Jackson mystiques are better, both are good tho LOL
Do we need to land on our toe-pick
Emily Pham yes, you don't want to stay on your toe, but it defiantly contacts the ice first.
THINICE
Emily Pham always
OUTSIDE EDGE BARELY TO NEVER TOE PICK
Great Video. Just wondering could you show the Bunny Hop exercise to help with this jump?
you swing one of your legs out and jump on your toepick then land on your other leg while moving look it up.
TheHiddenTiger 07
I'm too afraid to jump on my toepick D: What can I do to get over that fear? I always just jump on my blade and look like an idiot :D
Little Savior For me jumping on my toe pick is much more secure then jumping on the blade. Your more likely to fall if you jump on the bad then the toe pick. Honestly I am pretty much fearless when it comes to jumps. The quote " Being fearless docent mean no fear. It means having fear and jumping anyways."Also I just don't think about it just jump or I distract my self so I tell myself that I'm going to only lift my leg but I jump at the very last minute. If you live by fear you won't get any where
TheHiddenTiger 07 Thanks a lot. I tried it today and it helped a lot not to think about it to much! Also my trainer said I could just 'walk' into it at the begining just to get the feeling and that also helped :D
Little Savior Glad I could help!
I can't thank you enough for demonstrating the clockwise direction!! It's just nice to not have to mentally flip everything you say
My friend taught me this jump today, as well as backwards crossovers because I don't have a coach as of right now and my landings are so shaky and I keep forgetting to extend my leg. The only thing I'm great at is landing on my toe pick and rocking my heel back but after that my foot wiggles and it all goes down hill.
Laughy Sophie It might have been your skates. Could it be that they don't have enough support?
Bunny hop jump please :)
He just did it in this same video
I've been skating for more than a year and I'm just on Freestyle 1 (ISI) :( Thanks for the tips! :D
kbealove Thats great. Keep you the good work :)
You are a noob I’m on freestyle 6
@@bbisbad No need to be rude.
It’s been five years ... are u still skating if so what levels ur free skate ?🤗
ok so I'm beginning to take skating lessons and I'm a quick learner and all but I'm not up to jumps right now; so when my friend who does higher level stuff told me about how this jump was a pain in the butt when you get to it and told me how to do it i thought i should try it in my own free time. so i took that information and used it like two weeks later and i cringe so badly at how i was doing it wrong and missing a few things ; - ; at least i landed the jump wich made me feel cool. XD
Très bonnes explications, et surtout il y a un ralenti à la fin. Merci.
Thank you for such a helpful video!
How big must the toe pick be to safely land this jump? I know it doesn't need to be huge since this is a very basic jump, but I am worried I will fall when attempting this. My blade is the all-purpose Jackson (Mystique boot), and the length of the toe pick is about 2cm from end to end, or about the size of a rental skate.
Thanks so much!!
Nikki I well its going to be a bit harder because the mystiques are basic boots, not really meant for jumps but with practice it will definitly work!
This is great, thanks! I know how to do the 6 main jumps but it’s executing them that’s the problem XD. Hopefully this video will help me land the waltz but this weekend I’ll have my last lesson possibly for a few years 😢
I'm currently practising on snow white skates since our ice rink is not opening until the middle of October and I feel like a massive failure. I am so afraid of anything related to jumps that I didn't even trust myself to do the waltz jump. Looks so easy on you though.
I notice after doing 30 waltz jumps a day with including 7 steps. Whenever I was to swing my right leg into half circle than land, my left leg will slip bck to the blade, did not fell but the landing I fall.
Or not too much effort trying to swing my right leg front to be seen instead hugging side which is not a proper way, always ended up falling.
Still struggle to make it look like half circle on air T T
Do you know how to spin more faster on ice? I've been skating a lot recently and I wanna work on the speed of my spinning.
Very well explained :)
This really helps.
I really love waltz jumps but getting my arms right can be a bit tricky since I forget sometimes.
this helps alot soooo much
Thanks this helps a lot :)
Where is this rink? I want to skate there
It’s Whitley bay, UK
Do you have to do backwards cross overs to go into the jump or can you do forwards as well?
My grade 8 skate uk, group sessions requirements are:
two backward Mohawks (reversed), one outside 3 turn , 1 backward crossover and two forward inside twizzles (L/R). can you demonstrate this?
Does the height of a jump come with more and more practice? I have been doing the waltz jump a lot since the beginning of the month and I was wondering if it will get much higher? It's not very high right now. Please reply, and congrats again on 1k!
schumache101 yes, it will get bigger, as the jump and technique gets stronger.
I started figure skating one month ago and i only go to the rink one time a week and I learned bunny hop last week so I don't know if I can already try to do a waltz jump or if it's gonna be too difficult for me ?
could you show us progressive runs
Can you do a axel video?
I'm dying over this jump because somehow I can't jump high enough and when I do, I can't land OoO
Loser
Whenever i try to do this i always end up telling myself "its just a bunny hop, but with a little rotation" yet I can't seem to get myself to rotate? I can do bunny hops fine but when i try this jump i either do a three turn and go in the landing position or just do a normal bunny hop
Am I the only one who has trouble jumping because of the sliding entry?
Also are you suppose to lift off from your toepick? 🤔
Hi john
Does it work on hockey skates?
Yes it does speaking as someone who is a figure skater who has done ig in hockey skates but i would not recommend doing iy purely from a safety point of view the lack of a toepick greatly reduces stability and forces u move weight to a weird position on the landing away from the ball of ur foot
when I land I always go into a curve (outside edge), how do i prevent that?
Linn Huynh thats whats supposed to happen
Does anyone have any suggestions for actually doing this? Ive got the position and start down pat, but I can’t figure out the actual jump. I can do a bunny hop lol
Use the settings panel to slow the video down and watch it in slow-mo. seeing the jump almost frame-by-frame helps me tremendously. pay attention to the leg positions (left leg stays off ice the entire jump) I'd practice it off ice to get it figured out.
4:21 actual jump
How many years should you be skating before you try a waltz jump?
schumache101 Its different for everyone, just depends on how strong a skater you are and how quick you learn. Your coach will teach it to you when you are ready though.
took me two weeks after starting with lessons
WOW! I have been taking lessons since September and I still can't do a waltz jump, Could you upload a video of your waltz jump?
I'll try to get it on video. mine starts in a backwards crossovers to a mohawk then exit, then the waltz jump.
I am looking forward to it. When do you think it will be uploaded?
I have problem landing. Any advice ^-^??
I Need work on that outside edge ⛸
That's really helpful
Tks
omg, are you a lefty?
Luna Gray Just saying he is a right haned cause i do skating and i do these jumps If you are a right handed person you put left foot in front If you are a left handed person you put right foot in front. But I'm not trying to be mean.
Looks like an axel to me
CAN YOU SHOW A MOHAWK STEP SEQUENCE?
rae marion Chandler I am uploading a Mohawk video next week, not in a sequence but I hope it will help.
thank you. I am starting bronze skate uk star next week. (ice dance and free skating). the videos are very helpful to me. I am 68 so need plenty of guidance and tips.
How come all my coaches never told me what to do with my arms? I suffered with a bad waltz jump my entire life!
I thought it was called walse jump but i was wrong!
please someone add polish subs :( i want to learn it
I'm probably the only one who came here from being inspired by Yuri!!! On Ice.
ImJustADreamer me too!
+ImJustADreamer I think there's a few 😜
you're definitely not alone. NIKIFOROV!
He knows what is Yuri on ice 😂
Alex ah me too ;;v;
My coaches never helped me do the waltz jump
I wonder if he still skates? 🤔🤔🤔
ItsKirstt I still coach 7 days a week 😊 I skate maybe once every 6 months now 🤭
I hate when ppl say ur gay if you're a guy ice skater. I'm a girl
Emily Ash yeah not all ice skaters are gay, although there are quite a few like Johnny Weir, Adam Rippon, Brian Boitano AND Orser, etc.
Voice is not too good. I have to make the sound very loud😯
Are you landing on your toe pic?
korean please
Not a very good tutorial. Starting with style then the actual jump. I learned it simply by trying, no stupid rules, not thinking of too much, just jump and land. Then learn the proper style with arms, legs and feet. First get comfortable, then clean it up!
Omg you speak too much
