“Let children walk with nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life, and that the grave has no victory, for it never fights. All is divine harmony.” - John Muir
I used to hope that the world would see the issues with climate change and deforestation, and correct its ways to preserve our beautiful planet... but after watching the vicious, brutal nature of people under even the slightest pressure, the unquenchable greed of capitalism, and the outright indifference... I now just hope that we render humanity extinct and allow the earth to recover and re-diversify without us.
In order for humans to go extinct Earth would have to be turned into smitherines, and then MAYBE people would give up on leaving their shitty mark all round
Ah yes empathy of species you don't even know going extinct making you hate your own species so much you want to see it go extinct. The earth is fine. We couldn't harm it unless we make the earth split apart from some kind of massive explosion. Most species that have existed have gone extinct, leaving little if anything behind in the fossel record. You couldn't have met them, won't know anything about them. But they existed just as much as the creatures you now seem so overly concerned about. Humans creating mass species extinction isn't something to be proud about certainly. But our Earth isn't in any danger from us. It will continue to orbit the sun until the day it finally goes dark and that would impact it enough to where life wouldn't ever be able to life on this orb anymore.
I agree that the lack of care about the world we life on is abhorrent behavior, but I unlike yourself am not so much a nihilist that I would want my own species and all those that I hold dear to go extinct. Simply so life that will exist after us and is existing and coming into existence during our time on Earth could have an easier time thriving on the planet. Nature doesn't care, the species that make others extinct don't care. The only ones capable of understanding it are the ones also responsible for what is happening.
I think you need to look more at the positives and coöperation that does exist between nations and groups to help combat the problems arising due to our increased global footprint than all the negatives. After all without any power to change it you are just making yourself depressed about something you can't ever change.
@Furnizorul Koala For that reason we have to leave killer robots behind, so that if any other species arises that is a threat, they get exterminated.
Oh yes blame the cApItALiSm for everything bad on this planet. Moron.
@@Ignisan_66 Ah yes, so you think that the Industrial Revolution was not caused by capitalism? Well was it caused by humans liking to dance? What's your logic here?
This is sad. Imagine how many animals we could have had if we had taken care of our planet. :(
Oooh, so Mother Nature needs a favor?! Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys! Nature started the fight for survival, and now she wants to quit because she’s losing. Well I say ‘hard cheese.’
@@drakeaciago6491 We're the ones farming the Amazon and burning 1 in ten species of animal to death. Sure, nature is brutal, but we didn't even have to get involved. We could have adapted so that we didn't hurt any of the ecosystems, but now we've gone and trashed it all.

The pinta island tortoise was found alive recently.
Occasionally species that were thought to be extinct do turn up sometimes still very much alive. This is the exception and not the rule and besides that are there enough species in their population to recover their numbers or did they just get a temporary reprieve. In most cases the threats that caused a species to become to APPEAR to have come extinct are still present and even worse in many cases. Thus the threat on a species that is found extant instead of extinct contiinues will continue to push that animal to full extinction a second time for real!!
They recently found a type of millipede they thought was extinct. So some might be around but hard to find.

7:43 The problem is organizations aren't going to get it as many donations if their mission is to save the Beatles. People care about gorillas, polar bears, rhinoceroses, elephants so trying to get donations by saving any other species doesn't make any financial sense which means it won't actually happen.
If anyone wants an endangered species to research, I urge you to look up the pangolin. They're the world's most trafficked animal and are endangered solely because humans use them for meat and for their scales. They get a fraction of the coverage of other species because people don't really care about them. Pangolins are fascinating creatures that we know little about which is why it's so upsetting that they're not more well known. One day, they'll be gone and we will only have what little we know about them.

I think we need to educate more people about climate change. A lot of people don't even think it's a real thing.
Serenity Moon We'll get to that in a couple weeks :)
It's Okay To Be Smart Hope you guys check out Dan Kahan's work on cultural cognition as it relates to communicating things like climate change to people who are ethically predisposed to not agree with the science.
Christopher Willis Kahan's work is definitely a big influence on how I look at this. Two other Dans, as well: Kahneman and Gilbert. And a host of other sociologists and psychologists. In a few weeks we'll be putting out a couple of videos that talk about climate change from two different points of view, but that won't be the last time we talk about it, and I'm interested to play around with different strategies in the future.
It's Okay To Be Smart I am super excited to see the results!

I intend to spend my life aiming to help create a far more sustainable future but the cynic in me thinks that far too few people care to make the kind of big difference that we need.
+Robert Winslade Hang in there brother. We have a track record of waiting until we are at the cliff, then just when we are about to go over building a glider. I know weird analogy but its sort of what we do. Keep working hard its the only way we'll build our glider :-)
+Pinky7889 What's ironic is this is pretty much exactly how we've manage to cause this problem in the first place. We invented agriculture because at that time we'd maxed out what hunting and gathering could provide.
The release of Thomas Malthus' idea of population right at the time of the industrial revolution also suggests that Britain needed to industrialize to feed itself. In a hundred years or so we'll probably switch fully to nuclear power and other less messy forms of energy.
+Pinky7889 - your cliff analogy doesn't work because one has to STOP at the cliff before falling over in order to build the glider. No. A better analogy would be humanity got on board the Titanic during the industrial revolution and has wanted it to go faster and faster. Once you crash into that ice berg, you can't repair the hole. The ship is sinking and the band is continuing to play. Getting on the life boats is chaos. Metaphorically speaking, we as a species have no life boats because this planet is all we have. Sorry to say it but enjoy the life you have right now because life on Earth will probably be over by 2040.
+Robert Winslade most people given the option would choose to save the planet. it's the big industry greeds that won't allow that to happen.
+Exeggcuter Timur On the topic of nuclear power, the reactors are still very messy, if not messier. The nuclear byproducts contribute towards our pollution problem, while if just one thing goes awry, the aftermath won't just destroy a couple thousands of species' natural habitat, but ours as well.
The good thing is that we're hard at work trying to find an alternate source of energy. No one knows when it will happen, but it will come, and when it does, our lives might not be the same, but we could probably live good lives.
This channel popped in my recommended multiple times. I always ignored it and now i regret. I love it
Dude. This was touching man. Thank you. Hope you're well homie.
I teach ESL, and in one of our textbooks there's a unit about protecting endangered species, with a pros and cons list. The cons list includes this: "Do we really need 200 species of mice?" That way of thinking, stated so simply, is the reason behind the Sixth Extinction.
+larrydirtybird
Nature's only role is to adept. and it did so fine for billions of years. If things go extinct then it simply means it is not fit to be in that envoirement. Stronger animals will succeed in doing so and they will climb the ladder of evolution. We did it as well. Why should we interfere with a system that worked perfect for so long
" and the killer is right there in the room with you"
Looks at mom.

So scary to see this now. I can only imagine how much lower the percentages have gone taking into consideration all the wildfires and destroyed land.
There should be an update on percentages and what species have gone extinct. It'd be crazy to see that 6 year difference and how truly detrimental we are.
After watching this, I found myself remembering a time when having butterflies flit around you and land wherever on your body was such an everyday occurrence, that we never questioned it. I can't remember when last I saw one that wasn't in a sanctuary. I remember when we could walk up Signal Hill in Cape Town to feed the peacocks and deer. They're not there anymore. I also find myself in the peculiar situation where I'm even feeling sorry for an arachnids that are on the endangered species list....and I'm an untreatable arachnophobe. Thanks for great content!
At least some people have sense though, like there was this critically endangered spider found where they planned to build a highway in Texas for $15 million, so they didn’t do it in the end just to protect it. If only all humans were like that.

Let's not forget the Carolina parakeet, the US' only endemic parrot. Fun fact: Martha, the last passenger pigeon, died in 1914, and 4 years later, Incas, the last Carolina parakeet, died in the exact same cage. That's one of the most eerie things I know.
Periodic repeat of this topic would be valuable. Thanks.
I like how you saying "Late Devonian" was added in post XD
tspeiro There's nothing to see here. Move along! :)

That picture of the 8 foot long beaver was taken at the museum in my city, I'm almost positive.

x XCookies4EverX x well dogs kill 250 million humans a year.
lol dogs kill about 25,000 people a year my friend
And the reason they kill us is because of us lol
so did i
Dogs are actually among the most damaging invasive species of animals in the world.
They wouldn't get there without us, though.
I dont want this beautiful ocean, and wild forests to be a memory only!! I want them to be alive in future generations...
they wont be a memory they will vanish just like us

-average person
or when there's more money than there is natural resources.....
Nah, i'd rather watch youtube videos and comment on it
-you and me.
:DD yes
The sad truth about life as we live is that money is essential, so why not join them, and when you have enough money, rule the world as a fair but ruthless overlord and put death penalties to those who put further harm on the earth in the spirit of greed or ignorance!

@Ana Myers we're omnivores get over it
I am genuinely insulted that dinosaurs turned into chicken. I don't know why, but every time I hear it I just go "ugh, evolution wasn't kind to you"
Well, all the non-avian dinosaurs are dead yet the ancestors of chickens survived. Also not all dinosaurs were big predators, and some species of birds are pretty ruthless predators.
Just for putting that clip of snakes on a plan this dude is my new favorite science youtuber
Is it bad that all I could think while listening to this is, "Yes! We're as powerful as giant space rocks. We WIN!!!" and "Even if we destroy ourselves, it's better than giant space rocks doing it for us!"
the thing that bugs me is that, as a species, all we have to do is give up a few little conveniences and this problem would be so much less threatening. We tell ourselves that we need material comforts to be happy but they really don't, I mean so much of the world lives with little to nothing and they can still find happiness in non-material things. We are choosing to wipe out what may be the only place in this huge universe with life and its gonna cost us if we keep being so ignorant and selfish
You do understand that there are wealthy people spending millions on exotic animal products like rhino horns, right. You can use public transport all you want but you won't stop them. They're untouchable.
One of the biggest things each person can do is skipping animal products, since most of the deforestation is due to making room/growning food for the animal agriculture. Like you said its sad that we just have to give up a few conveniences(with food and the materialistic stuff), yet people still keeps doing it..
@@mikshin9825 and yet that is not an excuse to do nothing yourself. They may do more harm than you, but that doesn't mean you should continue doing your little bit of harm as well. (not attacking you personally btw, just using a global "you"). If everyone did a tiny bit of effort and cared only a tiny bit more, then these people wouldn't be able to get away with what they are doing. Ignorance IS the root and stem of all evil. Let us stop being ignorant.
@@tibhamel I agree with you, but you're talking about getting people to vote. Good luck with that. Blaming the average person for the problems we pose to Earth does not address the biggest part of the issue.
@@urtisk4288 It's even worse than that. I'm talking about getting people to care. To give a damn. Humanity is composed of average persons. Even the wealthy ones spending millions on exotic animals. We are all average. Yet we all have a responsability to care. Wether someone votes or not doesn't really matter. My favorite quote is "It takes one to change a few. Few to change many. Many to change the world. Starts with one." We all have power. But by not giving a damn, we relinquish that power. By saying that other bigger fishes are the problem, we relinquish that power. I don't blame average people for the problems we pose to Earth. I blame average people for giving up, relinquishing their power, and ending up not caring anymore.
The killer is right there in the room with you, ME: Turns and looks at my wife!!
wow! your so funny!!!!11!!!!
Lol
ME: turns and looks around...and cries after realising I'm lonely
Same... she was like... "yeah it was me"😂
boomer humor
It's ok to be smart : "The killer is in the room with you." *Looks at my brother*
"and the killer is right there in the room with you"
Technically, if the killer is in the room _with_ me, it can't _be_ me, right?
-*looks at my dog suspiciously*
The solution is easy. Find some fossils, go to Devon corp. in Rustboro city and let the scientists there revive them for you.
That is the best comment I've ever seen lol, I did it a couple weeks ago from the guy on the second floor:)
