AJR made this album during the toughest of times so they made they're album based of the struggles of life in the world, the song "God Is Really Real" is for their Dad that passed away. AJR has gained hate by a lot of people but they deserve better in my opinion.
I mean were they wrong tho?
You can interpet the phrases "God is really real when you suddenly belive in, karma just appears just as long as it's convenient" (Something like that)
To 1. People who never believed in neither of those but in desperate times they also hold onto hope
2. They said that some people are not that serious with their religion which is true. Just kinda just belive and just pray if you need something. Reminds me of the saying "You will appreciate it when it's gone" reminds me also of one of their other lyrics in the song "Life is ***** short then it stops"
3. Someone who did believe in them but because it was more evident that theor dad will be gone (which sadly happen) made them question their beliefs and that's okay to talk about!

The lyrical work in their songs is some of my favorites, and this song in particular might be my favorite from them yet!
It reminds me of the old stone cutter from Chinese mythology. He keeps changing to many things from a rich man to a prince to the sun to a cloud and then a rock. He goes full circle when as a rock, a stone cutter chips on him and he wishes he was a stone cutter again. Maybe Man is a total reflection of that myth and how we go through wishing being something good on life. We are never satisfied, we just need to face life and whatever it throws at us. It’s the truth!
I feel seen by every song they have. It's like.... they know... me.... 😮😂 no, but in reality, the songs of AJR all hit very specific marks on my inner child. They are a treasure.
I think "Eyes in the back of my head..... so I can see the places I have been" means looking back at his past, his memories . don't it ?

Okay, I’ll admit. AJR didn’t do horribly with this album. I liked Maybe Man due to its chord progression and how it builds up, and a few others. I’m definitely not an AJR hater, but I wouldn’t say I’m a fan either. I just feel like their songs are either just hit or miss, most of them being missed in my opinion. I just don’t really like the lyrics in a lot of them. They just feel like ranting. Sure, it is a good way to throw your opinions out Into the world and I respect that.
The lyrics in this song are really good in my opinion, it successfuly gives me depression lmao
Talking/singing about mental health struggles will always have something similar to ranting or sadness that's kinda the point.
No hate just it's kinda obvious that you don't like them if you don't like rants when most of their songs are structured in a way to talk about something that makes them sad or angry sometimes they add some optimistic ends to them but a lot of them are just like i said (the more newer ones, by new i mean mostly 2018+)
