In this episode I fly to Chicago, Illinois to buy what just might be the cheapest E39 BMW 530i in the USA *clickbait*. This unusual model was ordered with rare options including DSP sound, rear electronic sunshade, lateral rear shades, sport package, split fold rear seats with ski pass and in the unusual Schiefergruen metallic paint code 449.
I also stop by one of the exterior filming locations from The Breakfast Club, one of the most iconic movies by film director John Hughes. We were also close to filming locations for Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink, Uncle Buck and Home Alone. The Chicago suburbs are beautiful.

I saw your Ebay posting the other day. I knew it was yours because of the driveway...lol!!!! Hope it sold well.
ZDRkp123456789012356775689 d Are you fucking stupid or something??? People buy BMWs because it's old school and it's awesome to drive with them.
ZDRkp123456789012356775689 d By the way 2006 BMW M3 sells for 15,000 dollars.
@@ZDRkpd I'm sure u drive a Honda lol
I just bought a 2003 E39 530i Sport Sedan for 2,100 bucks. It had 127k miles on it with only a few minor things wrong. I've been using it as my daily and I love it to bits. I have to find excuses to take it for cruises and it's got a glossy black finish so it definitely fits the Nachtbomber/Nachtkreuzer aesthetic. I could not recommend an E39 5-series enough.
I like this "ugly" colour 😀😁
David Dumitru I actually like it too. They look best with m-technic bumpers
Yes
@Darius Normal 😂👌!
I bought my E39 for 1000 dollars in great condition last year.... and this year I bought a mercedez c320 for 2000 bucks! Praise the myth that German cars are expensive to own and thank you for depreciation!!!
Got my e39 for 1000 too. With sports package and the interior is in great condition
David Lutzker from where?
woah, Hoovie looks different...
I LOVE HOOVIE’S GARAGE
Yeah but hoovies channel kiiiindaa went to shit
Hoovie isnt a F4G like this guy
the best option on the E39 is a clutch.
Yep.
disagree, it's heated seats, which this car doesn't have :-(
Sarah check out my latest purchase! The $400 E39 is 5-speed!
More truer words could not be spoken! I converted mine to manual lol
@Alek Wolf Sorry, I don't understand what you mean? I don't have any problems with my clutch?
The cheapest :D damn, where i live thats going to be a high value e39, here the average most e39s are on 500 000 km, claimed could be higher, with an 520i engine without leather, without much tech.
I bought a 520i m52tu with 48k orginal km. Single owner . Grabbed it for a steal ;)
@@reymundrs3811 So what did you pay
Slate green was one of the most beautiful colors available on the e39 imo.
Oxford green🙌

I fucking love my e39 530i. Simply the best. Thicker windshield than it’s younger brothers. Better build quality and materials. Smooth, sexy, whisper quiet at 120 mph. You can whisper to your passengers at interstate speeds. A total dream mobile. Besian systems vanos seals, redline 5w-30, transgo pressure regulator, continental tires, polyurethane control arm bushings. Literal heaven.
I agree with all of this! Well, except the poly control arm bushings. I like the factory fluid filled ones, call me an old man.
@@BIMMERZEITT indeed they are harsher over bumps but the braking acuteness and the total control on turn in and mid corner to be is simply unparalleled in terms of car control. Even when you get out of control it still allows you to regain control with ease.
I recently purchased an 1997 E39 for 1500 dollars. 183,000 miles, paint in great shape, engine still smooth, the issue was that the steering wheel lock was sticking. I drilled it out and the car runs great and drives just fine.
that's awesome! make sure you do the thermostat and water pump if not done already. the early models with M52 seem to have more issues overheating and killing the engine than the 2001+ models
In Estonia you can find an e39 even cheaper. Depends on condition etc. I own two of these. One of them pre facelift 520i metallic blue sedan and the other one, my daily driver- 2003 525d touring black, almost no rust whatsoever. Got it for 2,2k eur. This was above the average e39 price
Sander :D
A 13 hour drive is tough but I think if the seats are still in good shape that making the drive in a (new to you) car is pretty nice, as long as there are no mechanical problems. Makes for a good shakedown test to find problems.
Robert Jensen it certainly was an adventure. The driver upper arm bushing totally gone which made for a dangerous journey
1:24 did he just use his turn signal in a BMW?!?!
He must learn soon. He is young.
BIMMER ZEIT Hello! Do you have plans to sell it? If yes,how much with shipping to Finland?
Thanks!
the turn signals are very satisfying to use in the E39
Zachary Parsons That caught my attention hella fast 🤣
the parking lot I'm turning into is State Police headquarters
I bought a 2002 e39 530i for $25.00 off craigslist. Not a junker. No dents. Interior perfect except for a tiny crack in the wood by the radio. Dead battery. Car was sitting for many months. Looks to be all original. Silver with black leather interior.
Been watching dozens of RUclips videos trying to figure out what I've really got here. Never owned a BMW before. May try to get it running or just resell it. Haven't decided yet.
Back when I had my first dog I bought a dog hair dryer that was super powerful. You could use it to blow leaves off the sidewalk or dry your car, and it really did a good job removing water drops off the car.
Other options include- oil filter housing leaks, valve cover gasket leak, oil pan gasket leak, window regulator replacement, front control arm replacement, water pump replacement, expansion tank replacement, air intake boot split, top and bottom hose replacement, noisily pulley replacement and finally sagging headlines... best car I’ve ever owned
Chris D but why stop there? Lol... brakes, tires, 7.5qt oil changes, alternators, struts, abs modules
Here in germany you have to pay around 3000-5000$ to get an E39 in such a good condition... What a crazy world... :D
My 530i Sedan was priced 5.7K€ had 200k Km on the Clock and runs fine . I travelled over 600 KM to buy it in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Best Car i had so far. :)
Grüße :D
@@leon_ego Moin! :)
I paid $2800 for this guy
@@Smiley575 in Romania you can buy a 525tds e39 for about 1000 euros , even cheaper if you are lucky
Good video! Very nice BMW, didn't mind the color really. :)
I bought my '99 528iA for $360 in 2015. No sunshade or DSP options, but shadowline, green tinted stripe windscreen, velour floor mats, Titanium silver, big on board computer and the rest is probably stock more or less.
But it's a high mileage one but it still runs great at 230000 miles.
And I didn't know that they 60/40 folding backseat was rare. I've only seen them with them unless they're from 1995-96 when they didn't fold at all.
In Poland you must pay something around 2-3k $ for e39 like yours. Prices in USA are crazy :p
fuck in portugal its 4.5 k euros at least
Wish it was this easy to find a decent condition E39. Here in Finland the usually rust everywhere quite badly and it is really unusual to find one without a single bit of rust. 😔😔 If you happen to find a rust free example, you will probably end up paying up to 10k€, which is roughly 12k dollars. And you can almost get a F10 for that price...
That car is a beast and I wish my 530i had the sunshade options and thigh support seats. Looks like it has the sport package .Awesome find And the folding rear seat is by far the coolest interior option.
Manuel Magallanez thanks bro I agree with you!
I love how you gave Chicago a good image Chicago is such a beautiful city I love my city great video!!!
FlyShitOnly773 I love Chicago!
I Hav a 1998’ 528i e39 and I love her... I’ll never get rid of her... I’ve done soo much to her and I haven’t even scratched the surface of all I’d like to do... she’s very much a work in progress...
Jah Cousteauu that’s great Jah. 98 is a classic these days too, at least it is in Connecticut. Keep going with it! They’re the best cars.
I've got a '98 528i as well, here in the UK. Only 54k miles and £4k from a elderly retired man with full main dealer history. Blue with tan interior, luxury seat option and stereo upgrade. This car will see me out.
I payed 1800 for a 540i with 255000 miles on it... I fing love it. Last owner did alot of good stuff like timing chains. 540 ftw
Damn, it's producing airplane sounds as its take off... 😁
Bimmer 😭 lol
Bimmer same photo bro😂
@@toni8750 😂😁...
I bought a 2002 525i E39 for 4.5k for 5 months it worked properly, now it has major gasket and rod knocking problems
I found a 2002 BMW 530i, one owner, garage kept, all dealer service records. No accidents according to CARFAX. Would love to have it but just nervous about buying something this old. I has around 150,000 on it. It looks immaculate from what I can tell.
Craig D sounds good, test drive it and decide then
BIMMER ZEIT I would love to. Just makes me very nervous not knowing. I am not mechanically inclined at all and don’t want something that has many problems
Just bought mine 300k miles still driving and running stronge beside a light cylinder misfire but for 900$ can’t believed it
i got my bmw e39 530ia for 300$, good condition, a little rust on the side panels but nothing too crazy, estoril blue, m-sport interior and exterior, and after owning it for 2 weeks i crashed it into a pilar while driving in the rain
BezViken Damn, that sucks man. Can you fix it?
Діма 777 i would be fixable but it would tale too much time and money so i sold it to a guy who wanted parts from the car for 350$ so i still made profit hahah
Sweet.......I wish I had the 3.0 L........If it had manual transmission it would be really rare.
yes the manual transmission 530i's are super hard to find, especially with the sport package!
This year I bought a 2000 323ci convertible for $350.00 and a 2005 330xi for $400.00.
Both with blown head gaskets
I am finished with the 323ci and am in the process of doing the xi now. My plan is to continue to buy repair and sell these cars and use the money to build my own daily driver. Im building a 5 series with a GM LS3.
that AINT the cheapest E39 in the USA
Dat looks more like the most expensive e39 in the USA
Mine is a 1997 528i and I paid a little more than you. But mine doesn’t have those options (I do have folding rear seats) and, most envious of all, the compartments in your console still have all their working covers! :)
Sounds great Craig, a 1997 is now a classic here in CT! You can get discounted insurance and pay property tax on an assessed value of only $500 x the mill rate here on a 20 year old (or older) car. A great daily driver!
I always find it so funny seeing the “half m-sports” that the US got, as in Canada, the full M-Sport pack was available right from 2000
unfortunately they saved the m-tech bumpers in the US only for the 540i M-sport and the M5's
BIMMER ZEIT I find that very interesting considering how big of a market the US is and how BMW was barely selling 30000 cars a year in Canada back then
I guess it has to do with the fact that Canada-spec cars are pretty close to EU-spec ones.
Had 4 e39s
540i was 1100$
525i with a stick was 800$
528i with 76k miles was 1k
528i with stick and shnitzer type 2s was 900$!
I got mine for $450 us on Craigslist last year... Added water and gave it a jump.. runs great. I love the fold-down rear-seat wish I had it .. mine is also slate green I love it..
My dad had a 2001 X5 sport in this Slate Green, it was really nice in its day! 😁
Best engineered car ever, period. Nothing can beat this one. Too bad you will never be able to test it to its full as we can here in Germany haha.
agree 100%
That interior is clean
I bought my first e39, a 98 528i, for 600 bucks. unfortunately it was automatic. I'm on #2 now, a 99 that cost me 2500. 5 speed and m sports suspension and steering wheel this time.
I got a manual 540i 130k on dash m-sport edition for 4k
Meanwhile here in Europe in Lithuania I bought mine e39 3L diesel for 3k $ (car mileage over 300k km). Was watching cheaper ones for 2k but they all were trash. And our minimal wage is 420$ per month. Looking forward to get that working visa for a year to Canada in 2019 haha
I just bought a 2001 E39 Wagon for $375! Granted, needs a new engine but still, amazing car and I can’t wait to get it driving!
Amazing buy!
actually I don't mind the colour, it is very unique, love the style 42" wheels. Are they 17" or 18"? Nice purchase, very clean!
Leon L you know I kind of like the color too, pretty rare and unusual. They’re 17”, I might swap the wheels with the style 5’s on my black E39. These ones have the usual corrosion on the lips from road salt.
Leon L I actually found that this is a color that would grow on you. As well as the anthracite, a lot less boring than my titan silver. The slate green is a lot nicer than the sterling grey that they are crazy about across in the U.K. Imho.
Awesome video and car man 👍 I am currently rebuilding an E39 from copart on my channel. Your videos have been helping me a lot man so thank you for that.
Rath1 thanks bro I will check it out!
Wow, in Indonesia e39 costs around $4000 to $8000..great car tho 🔥
Blower works better if you start at top , go down.
Nice brooo thanks for the vid , make more if you can
Im pretty sure you are my spirit animal. Im just wrapping up my 500$ manual 528i project and just got another for 500$ :(
Options - how they all be coolest or best? DSP on RUclips? How about listening to my Bosendorfer concert grand down a phone line?
Positivity Paul
@@BIMMERZEITT That aside this was one of the best cars BMW made. I had a pre-facelift 528i and it was very pleasant, though the 530i is significantly quicker. more than the extra 200 cc's would suggest.
Well I brought an X5 e53, 2001, with the very rare aero body kit, 4.4, nav system, rear dvd display and black on black with only 117k miles for just 800$. 👀
BTW it is for sale located in Chicago, IL
This E39 costs around $5k (clean ones can reach $7k) here in Lebanon.
Paul Riskalas Paul thank you for sharing the costs in your country! We are very lucky in the US.
@@BIMMERZEITT indeed you are my friend. Enjoy it!!
Well...?...what was the price you paid for it? Did I miss that mention? I have problem with a clickbait title but the price mention is a must. Love the videos!
$2800
Got my e39 540i sport for 500. Great car
Those really weren't "later" seats. I have the same ones in my '98.
No matter how cheap or expensive, nothing will ever replace the legendary e34
Beka Machurishvili I drove a 1994 530i 5 speed E34 for many years. It was a good car. But the E39 is a GREAT car.
meanwhile in EU are around 5k over 200k KM in dash
fr0d we are very lucky here in many ways, luxury cars depreciate and can be affordable compared to the rest of the world
Where I live E39 is valued almost as much as an E60!
Ivan .Frei what country?
Croatia. Goes for all the ex-yu states. Anyways, went with the E46 facelift, I just live millenium BMWs.
@@BassMessiah100 why
I love this damn channel
I just got back last week from driving NYC to Kansas for a E39 2003 540i Msport!!
beautiful choice, hope you enjoyed the trip!
BIMMER ZEIT caught a misfire right when I pulled into my driveway haha after 1300 miles.. ended up being a coil pack replaced it myself for $40 from autozone. The drive was great! Except all the dead bugs on my bumper- and went shifter cart racing in Indiana on the way home!
I had an ex police car e39 3.0 turbo diesel and it was crazy with a manual box, this thing would leave merc e350 standing and that was ten years newer
How about getting a E34 next time??
I drove a 1994 e34 530i 5 speed from 2006-2012 you could say I had my share
Its great , you look like a boss , nice rims bro ! :D
Nice ride, my e39 doesn't look so good but I love it! Ride safely !!
Always when you go searching for cheap BMWs the ugly ass piss seats are the most common to find
I bought one last Friday for 1200. Drives great. A few interior trim pieces missing, but he rest of the car is tits
I think thats a good colour!
I love your channel but I have a 03 e39 530i M-Sport with the same exact color it’s called Tea and I love it I get so many compliments but everyone’s taste is different keep up the good work 💯
Whoaaaaa #TheBreakFastClub 👌🤙😎
You should also say that jonny also got an e39 m5 for 750$
Na buddy just bought a 2002 530i manual transmission with 60,000 miles all it needs is a front bumper cover because it's so chipped up from rocks for 500.00 usd
Those are normal options here in Europe
the colour looks lovely
In the last 2 months, half of youtube bought the cheapest e39...makes sense
But how much was it?
$2,800
@@BIMMERZEITT Wow :o
Ya sorry my little brother got a 2002 540i for 1800 and 130k and it was nice, so sorry man

One of the best BMWs ever
I had a 525i 2001 it was beautiful
Old beamers are dope 👌
please tell me how, if you did, did you fix the broken rear window screen?
I like this car so much, hope you kept it !

I think I just bought the cheapest $350 running and driving requires radiator 177k
excellent buy, thats a great deal!!
This bmw looks fck clean
stefan koles thanks stefan!
My friend got a e39 for 100$ so I doubt it was the cheapest its clean and runs so 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Love the american versions of that car, especially for nice interior colors. Here in Europe, most of the stuff is black like in the toomb. WTF?
It doesn't have that steering wheel cause it's an '02, it has it cause it's part of the sport package. I have a '03 530i sport, it gives you 3 spoke steering wheel, blacked out trim, sport seats, and the 2 piece 17" BBS wheels.
I'm well aware this is a sport package car. In this video I'm describing how the 02+ model year sport package car differs from the earlier models, like my 2001 530i with sport package. That car has the early m-tech steering wheel and the standard comfort seats.
@@BIMMERZEITT No kidding, I thought all the '01-'03 sports had same components. Didn't know the steering wheel was different in a '01 sport....good to know.
Yeah the 02-03 had the thicker steering wheel which is also in the M3 and M5. The 2001 model had the style that's seen in the E36 M3. Check out my 01 here you can see the wheel and front seats: ruclips.net/video/Sb2QWHz5cIc/видео.html
I bought the cheapest e39 in usa 02 530i manual in topaz blue for 400 from copart running and driving
A good used BMW is a rare find.
I like the colour, just not with tan interior
I love E39 system but like body of E46.
Just bought a 2003 e39 300d for £1200 (£1195 as I found a fiver behind the sun visor).
Daveyboy 20 amazing! Wish we had the diesel models here in the US
Cheapest ? Are you sure? Cause thatbe39 has mostly options beside full m-pack, m-steering wheel, leather 3.0 straight 6, zf automatic geabox and rondell 18" concave rims. Even in Germany e39 in that shape they cost from 4000 to 10 000 € depends on mileage (kilometers).
I never heard a price but I have the same model but no sun shades 540i mtech 2002 bought it for 1700
All I see and hear is Owen Wilson 😂
I got one just like that but gold paint job with the same interior for 300$ only 100,000 miles too
got u beat. i paid 750.00 for an E39 540i
Christopher Denton paid the same for a 525i, nice purchase
I own 2 of those. And when anyone asks me what do You think is the best car? I say E39
