Interesting vid!! I've been looking at these. The prices here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱.. CS srk in sk5 steel about €.50,-- The A1 about 4 to 5 times that, and the A1pro nearly 10 times that.. I have the sk5 version, but am looking for an upgrade. But man, are these knives expensive.. Thanks for this little test, it's very informative 👍 Greets, TW.
Thanks, a lot. I'm interested for the video of Fallkniven and Bark River. Thank you. Is it allowed to ask wherere do you come from? It is a little bit crazy to ask or discuss above knives around the world.
+Big Brown I have thought that, but the USA is very big. Where do you come from? Ten years ago I was in the USA. In the West, From Seattle to La. From La over Las Vegas to Moab and the Yellowstone. Unbelieveable beautiful country and nice and friendly people, especially when you met them outdoors in the national parks. I'm still interested in the battle-video between the great knives bark river and fallkniven. I want to have the best knife for the woods, will use them with the scouts in the forest. But i believe I will have a beautiful knife, that I love and can hand down to the children or grandchildren. Thanks for your videos and the good infos!!
Suspicious quietness on the latest, taiwan production SRK in "san mai" ??? Would you be able to review it ? any cutting tests performed by new SRK san mai vs fallkniven A1. Any input is greatly appreciated.
No argument that fallkniven are great knives, but your knot test for the srk wasn't fair when you chopped the full width, and then you attempted it with the a1 on the knot with half the width. The a1 got hung up with about the same number of hits but was able to split the knot with additional hits and with half the width remaining. I wish I can afford a fallkniven. In your opinion how much more effectiveness and utilitarian advantage going from the srk to the a1 to the a1pro?
I feel that it would've been more comparable for the SRK to be a San Mai III version, since the other two A1s are also laminated steels. Nevertheless, another great and informative video!
And to that effect, since the San Mai III has a VG1 core, I wonder how those two SRKs (San Mai III vs the all VG1) would fare going toe-to-toe. But that is another tale to tell. Keep rockin out these videos bro!
Big Brown Guy I've got the SRK San Mai VG1 in satin finish. I've also got the regular A1. A1 is clearly superior. Question for you: is the A1-Pro really that much superior to regular A1 to justify the price?? I'm in USA and best price I can find is $340.
No wonder the A1s are batoning better when you put more force into the strikes.. Just compare 3:01 with 4:11 and 5:25 The fallkniven sheaths are shit, and the handles are not the best. But the convex edge is a great thing, the (full) full tang blade also, and the steel is very good. But in my opinion, in a price/value comparison, you get more with the SRK for its given price than with the A1.
Oszkar Csaky the fallkniven will baton better, it's thicker and spreads the wood apart more, believe what ever you want, like whatever you like, I don't care lol
Maybe it batons better but the knife is not that better in overall. If the A1 cost more only with 30 bucks , I would consider to purchase one , even with their crappy sheats and lower quality handles. But the somewhat better steel and the convex edge is not worth a hundred dollas more. Or 200 more.. Man, you can buy a trail master on that money and that thing will baton like an axe.
Wow, this guy's trying so fucking hard to rationalize blowing a bunch of money on the Fallknivens. LOL "Let's see if the SRK can handle something like this. Lemme find a log with a big knot in it. Bang! Bang! Bang! Now that the SRK has torn up the log, I'll hit the same log twice from another angle with my overpriced Fallkniven and then lastly use the knife like a pry bar to separate the chunks and declare victory for the Fallkniven."
Hahaha....thats funny as hell! I kind of noticed that myself. I have the A1X and the S1X and a Bark River Aurora too, but I also appreciate the coldsteel knives for it great quality at a terrific price. I have the SRK sk5 and San Mai VG10, I would love to have a 3V and unfortunately missed the boat on that. Coldsteel makes great hunting knives in their master hunter series, I have the San Mai iii and have the 3V on backorder. ColdSteel tanto lines in 3V are also awesome knives and not widely known, but they are also great outdoor knives especially with batoning. BBB has great videos, but he is clearly bias as hell, LOLs!
I have had an SRK and also have a Fallkniven A1....the A1 smokes any SRK, hands down. Just is what it is...and I'm not knocking on the iconic SRK. It's a great blade. I have no interest in the thicker A1x's and such. The regular A1 is as thick as I'd ever go in a knife. I always have my pack axe with me anyway. An argument can definitely be made the Fallknivens are overpriced.....but after years of my life and having been through all the knives and brands out there, it's my trusty A1 I have on me the most. I did have to thin out the metal behind the edge a little bit to get the convex right where I like it but the blade has proven its worth to me. They're also purpose built for Northern winters which can't really be appreciated unless you go through a few with a Fallkniven in hand. You should "blow a bunch of money" on a quality blade some day just to give it a try. You might like it. Plus, you can find them much cheaper used. I'm not usually one that's into expensive knives and "super steels" but I've always been very happy and impressed with my Fallkniven purchases. Can't say the same for every Cold Steel I ever bought.
The end of the handle on the Pro is too thin, almost made for the ladies. Not sure what FK was thinking when they out those girly handles on the Pro line. Great custom handle op.
I just rewatched like 10 of your videos man ... your channel deserves a lot more attention ! so much real information !
very nice apples to apples comparison here. Thanks mate!
+Dutch Bushcraft Knives anytime brother :)

Great video. For a survival knife batoning is essential. Assume you won’t have an axe in a survival situation.
Oldie but a goodie. Now you're making kick ass knives!
Howzit Shaun, what do you think about COS? You seem to like Fallkniven.
Cool, glad they worked out your issue and the manufacturing issue. Looking forward to that video.
+Sharpblade :) thanks
+Sharpblade :) thanks

eh, just not interested. I can make better knives myself

srk is not as good
Srk is better if you can find the carbon v version
Are any of these knives good for self defense? edc? or are they for wilderness survival only?
Self defense is a mindset not a tool.
For EDC too big. Draws too much attention. For wilderness. Perfect.
How about the S1?
Tough Journeyman yeah man. It would be better. It's smaller the the SRK.
Right on.
Thanks.
Enjoyed seeing these three together
I feel that it would've been more comparable for the SRK to be a San Mai III version, since the other two A1s are also laminated steels. Nevertheless, another great and informative video!
I agree, but I don't like hollow grinds on my woods blades.
I was excited when the normal one got the upgrade to vg1 from AUS 8
And to that effect, since the San Mai III has a VG1 core, I wonder how those two SRKs (San Mai III vs the all VG1) would fare going toe-to-toe. But that is another tale to tell. Keep rockin out these videos bro!
Jaime Leon de la Parra ...good review my man; I own 'em all
I've got the carbon v version. Bought over 25yrs back. So I just dated myself!
When it comes to chopping, Saber grind is like a nail whereas Scandi/convex grind represents a chisel.
Very very well done. The more concise the better....More concise ?? Ha ha!
As i understood, a1 pro is the same as SRK plus weight. And the price of this weight is $200.
It would be interesting comparing the Fallkie Pro with the Cold Steel... Bushman.
+Pedro Marcos haha, nah

The A1 Pro is schweet. Its thicker so it batons better, has nicer steel that holds a longer edge.

San mai 3 SRK is what you need dude
From thick to thin lol
