    What a bassoon part in that lament. Wow. And the player is great too... perfectly representing the human voice. I definitely need to listen to this piece more.

    You can definitely hear where Britten got some inspiration for his own Rossini suites.

      The source is similar but the orchestration style of Britten is quite diferent from that of Respighi, they are not even close :) Resighi is heavier than Britten, who is always very sparse with doublings and orchestral groups.

    It is unfortunate that Sir Adrian Boult's recording (in mono) is not available...it was a lot more spirited than Ms. Faletta's performance.
