You will be surprised as I did NOT address the 1300 mg by fda. No one in all these years has commented about it (except on fb page) and it will only confuse people who don't know a thing about calcium. I did however address the percentage and their will be a handout as a resource that goes with that video.
Hm that really does make a difference, the higher the percentage is though. Thirty percent of 1000 is 300, whereas 30% of 1300 is 390. Folks could be going over their goal daily without knowing it.
I’m gonna join the peanut gallery in saying that, while it may feel confusing to explain that the FDA RDA amount USED to be 1000 and then recently changed to 1300, I agree with these comments that it’s important to let people know how to interpret that percentage, and that has to include a brief explanation that the FDA (totally apart from our kidney stone recommendations) is using 1300 as the number. So that any percentage listed on packaging is a percentage of 1300. I’m another one who thinks it’s important to update the materials to include that piece of info. I’m a stickler for correct info to be there, and if we tell people jus to add a zero, they’re gonna be potentially eating too much calcium.
What a timely video! I've just been trying to figure this all out since my kidney stone trauma and ureteroscopy in September, and I had this exact question today. After successfully managing diabetes through diet for 25 years, and now finding myself grappling with a whole new set of dietary adjustments I feel like I'm juggling a lot of balls! Thank you for everything you are doing for us--what a gift!
Don't forget to look at the diabetic vid I did on this channel. You will be so surprised to see just how well your current diet and the ksd go together. At the end of the day we are only asking you to get rid of spinach and almonds. I know almonds are big for diabetics, but you can still eat all other nuts within moderation. The darn thing is it is hard to not eat handfuls of nuts per sitting.
Thank you for this. I'd already stopped eating any kind of sugar or starchy food, and nearly all almond products, so my big two changes were to cut down on salt and add calcium. It's been tricky trying to add enough calcium (I was eating practically none but what was in my veggies and the very occasional cheese), but I'm working on it! Don't know where I'd be if it weren't for your videos--they have helped me tremendously with both information and inspiration. @@TheKidneyStoneDiet
So glad to hear that someone helps you not to panic about oxalates. I also appreciate your video about being young at heart. I’m 75 years old just got back from a bike ride and bike ride with my husband every weekend. I go to the gym three times a week and take tai chi. I am in great health outside of my one kidney stone five months ago. Had a 24 hour urine test and my doctor said it wasn’t actually it’s as much as it was low citrate. I don’t like eating lemons because of tooth enamel but I’m eating more citrus fruits. I’m doing another 24 hour urine in four months and hope it has improved. thank you for all you do & Your positive attitude. I hope I hear from you. Stay well
Thanks so very much, I often wondered myself about this calcium thing ... so grateful for your explanation and saved me alot of OCD anxiety LOL ... but thanks, really appreciate yu\our guidance !!~!
I had the same question as Margie. Good question. Thank you for answering. Thank you for explaining that we can drink too much calcium. So, when I have one serving of oatmeal with a cup of plant based milk & getting calcium integrated in that meal, but then have something with high oxalate later in the day, I need to drink another cup, but not go over 1200mg of calcium. Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks again. Great question!
Great question! I had wondered the same thing. And great explanation, Jill. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Looking forward to the updated Prevention Course videos, especially our friend the Calcium video 🙂

I address this in the new course video with a resource guide that will come with it.

I always learn something new from you! Merci beaucoup!
My pleasure!
I was thinking before or with the food. Good question .

Hi! Lemons may help, unless your citrate is so low then you might need a pill to help. Search for the video here on potassium citrate.

You are so welcome! You also don't have to drink a whole cup each time. Split the cups up if you like.
What if you can’t tolerate a glass of milk? Can you mix in the dairy with the sweet potatoes? Like mashed sweet potatoes with milk mixed in?

Does lemon juice break down oxalates and help prevent them from depositing in the kidneys?
No. lemon juice will not lower oxalate.
Yes, it will help bonding the Ca with oxalates, and lower the risk of a damage. Lemon is good.
first comment from india..lots of love❤
Yay! Thank you!
What are the foods richest in calcium?
Dairy products are richest. For others my website's blog has tons of stuff on calcium. kidneystonediet.com/blog
Jill, whatever you do, don't check social media for a long time, please. ☠️
