A couple years ago, I bought an Audi TT for my partner. Her father took me to pick it up and we loved it immediately. He passed later that day and we were left with this car that he had been the only other person in the passenger seat. The last couple years I've fixed up many of the very tiny issues. I don't have the convertible but the 180 with auto transmission and a bit of work under the hood, new stereo, bunch of modern upgrades. Everything about this car is something I've grown to love and it's created more memories than any car I've owned previously. Absolutely beautiful diamond in the rough I'd say with a little tlc.
I held my breath during your silence before you mentioned the MX-5 ;o). It's an obvious choice for a cheap convertible. I have an NB Sport at the moment and it's such a laugh to drive. I think the TT would be much quicker though and more comfortable, as well as having a nicer interior. It's so nice that you can be spoilt for choice with a grand in your pocket, haha!
I managed to pick one of these up for scrap value of a friend as an MOT failure about 150 notes.. Few hours of my time and about a hundred quid in parts, it passed and I love it. Don't even care when my mates call me a hairdresser! People who scoff are just people who haven't driven one!!
Love the content, just bought myself one the other day a Japanese import no less. Silver with a black roof. 180 BHP manual cost me 2700euro so in today’s money with inflation not bad nct and taxed, its a bit of cheap summer fun.
I bought a silver 225 roadster in February for £1,500 and now drive it more than my 2016 A3. It’s a beautifully retro car that makes a great noise and is great fun to drive, especially down country lanes in the sunshine.
Bought a mk2 TT convertible when I retired in 2013 its a 2007 with a Dsg box and it never fails to put a smile on my face every time I take it out. I've had a couple of issues the abs unit went and the roof sometimes won't go up but its simply a smile inducing dream.
Looks like the whole car is in good nick for the mileage , well done . I have the coupe AWD 2002 down in OZ 83000km one owner had it for 4 years no major issues . Yes the dash pod is cactus impossible to repair in OZ , pix a bit , but the temp gauge moves about a bit , but temp is always around 85 to 90 c , fuel gauge is always full , i reset the odometer at each fill and drive to 400km and refill no big deal when you easily get 650km per tank . Good servicing on time helps with these cars for reliability , timing belt every 90,000km , haldex is important too . My other car is a GTI Clubsport , but i still do love to drive the TT especially out on the B roads , its a heavy dog in the city with a stiff shifter , heavy clutch . Enjoy your TT my friend , well presented clip by the way .
Just bought a 2001 TT Turbo convertible for $5,500 US unbelievable condition, runs great..center dash control you can't read but the rest is spot on. It's an 18 year old toy and I love it
Damn, that’s the second time today, you’ve sent me off to look at Auto Trader! 🤣 Nice vid. Agree totally with old convertibles - it’s about the experience, not the handling or performance.
Here in India you won’t even get a 2002 Type 2 Honda city for this price! This is a steal price for an Audi TT. So interesting to watch these videos Matt
Great video. Purchased my TT 225 as my second car on the same date (11.03.2019) as u posting this video! We got the same thinking why not MX5, but in Hong Kong, police hate JDM cars and easily pulled over by them...and TT has more power, quattro and is slightly cheaper than a MX5 which makes me to choose TT at last
I've been struggling to decide on a newer car, so going to get a cheap one of these for the summer and buy a newish car in the winter and use it for trade in.
I have a 2003 coupe 225. 150000 on the clock and still immaculate. Change the oil (quality not rubbish) every 6 months and spark plugs every 12 along with air and cabin filter and you’ll be fine. Don’t bother with a garage for the Haldex. Jack up the rear. Axle stands underneath and DIY. The oil you can get direct from an Audi dealership or eurocarparts using a discount code for around £18 and comes in a tube the same as bath sealant. Drain the old oil and when you’re ready bang in the new oil and quickly refit the drain plug. Done in 5 minutes. Filter every 2 years but you need an L shaped spanner costing around £10-15 on eBay. They can be a bugger to get off and on but quite an easy job.
5:20 is pure gold...!!! a real meme... like in school, when you realising you knew the answer on the test from beginning and somehow you answer wrong..!!!
I have an Audi TT coupe 2006 1.8 turbo.. which is far sexier than a convertible. Mark 1 is the classic..to be honest I go the shops and come back to the car park and what looks the best car there? Mine, it's a classic. Big thing to watch out for. Timing belt and water pump yes..but engine mounts nuts come loose..then your engine falls out..seriously. The retro styling is superb..mines only just done 40,000 miles from new.
Everyone bleats on about the head gaskets on the K series engine (MGF etc). We’ve had 3 series 1 Lotus Elise over the years, the first being brand new when they were launched. We never had an issue with any regarding the head gasket. We used them too! The last one we had we took to Spain on the ferry and drove back to the UK through France. Might be luck of the draw or might be some amount of fact enhanced by urban myth.
Pleased to hear it! All used cars will have some issues. It all depends on how they're looked after. I have had lots more K series engines with head gaskets blown than not, but like you say, its not every single one
There is nothing at wrong with a MG TF now. Any s/h TF will have had HGF by now and had an uprated gasket on it. Not only are they nicer to drive, but better value for money, much more of a future classic (they are now holding their value and even starting to increase a little) and actually quite reliable! I have one as a 4th car for those occasional sunny days and I can't fault it.
I’ve come from a TF to a TT 225 and the TF can’t hold a candle to the TT in terms of performance, the interior is light years better than a TF too. TF’s feels fragile in comparison
I owned a 1.8 225 coupe, which was good fun. I’m 6’3” and a bit of a lump but there was plenty of room, the interior was very solid, everything worked as it should (apart from the well known temperature gauge miss-read), the Bose speakers sounded lovely and in a couple of years ownership all that failed was a coil pack, again a fairly common fault. The one thing I would be critical of was RUST, have a damn good look underneath before you buy one! Although the 225 version is quick, with a few quid spent wisely it can be made really quite fast indeed. The BAM engine is a bit of a legend, apparently.
High Peak Autos You’re welcome, and thanks for the excellent reviews. I’m hankering for a big of cut price, old style luxury, so if you ever get to review a late year Jaguar S Type...well, you know.
Would love to have one of these in that pretty metallic green with brown or beige interior someday. I always thought it would be a fun experiment to combine one of these with a solid body but dead engine with a salvage Golf or Jetta (Bora) TDi.
Sorry for commenting on everything, however if its something Ive driven the vids always grab my attention. Even if only for a day test drove one of these when my mate wanted to trade in his cooper s in 2008. Was a silver 05 225 bhp version. Remember the huge lag and banging through the 6 speed manual box out of cuiriosity to 70 odd from standstill and how it felt quick but certainly not fast. Totally agree on the wooly handling this was based on a mk4 golf chassis. These tts were stylish though and solid inside. Especially compared to an slk of the time.
I got a 2005 z4 2.5 last summer was some really good fun in the sun but compared to other convertibles the z4 are most likely the best choice. I found that out after months of research.
Yeah, I've got a 2005 Z4 2.5 too and have had it for nearly 6 years now and it's been great. No major issues, had to replace two worn rear shock absorbers and - at the last MOT - a rear brake line was corroded. Not bad for a 14 year old car with 105,000 on the clock. Want to replace it but not sure what with. It's such a simple car, not too much to go wrong. Might be a Boxster next time round. Or another Z4.
I think you are being a tad disingenuous about the Roadster. It’s an absolute icon . I had a new 225 back in 2003 and I wish I had never sold it! It was a superb quick reliable car, built to an amazing standard and if you want a pristine low mileage example you will have to part with 10k or more. The 225 especially is getting difficult to find in great condition these days. I know I have been looking . As with all 20 year old cars the devils in the detail. If you pay a grand for a car you are going to pay and pay and… infinitum! Better to get a really good one if so inclined towards this timeless reference.
I've had a 225 and a 3.2 (both coupes) and both are great cars. Imo the 225 felt faster but the 3.2 with the dsg gearbox was probably the smoothest car I've ever driven once rolling (look out for the delay of death when pulling away). Clutch pedal failure is a common fault in manuals along with dashpods in all of them. Cambelts need to be done every 40k not 80 in the 1.8's and mechatronic failures in dsg boxes are quite common and costly to repair. Haldex history is also a must have with documented proof of regular oil changes. Washer aliens in higher spec TT's (typically 225's and 3.2's) are also common failures along with coilpacks. Interiors usually stand the test of time and there are only a few rust areas (drainage channels). Annoyingly (with the exception of coilpacks) the most common faults were the subject of recalls in most countries around the world but not so in the uk. Great little cars and still very stylish bearing in mind their age. I would buy another in a heartbeat if I had the funds.
I was looking at either a TT, MX5 or an MR2 but none would suit the criteria of putting a wheelchair in them. I had to go for a Focus CC! Not sporty in anyones book but it puts a smile on my Daughters face every time I say "roof down chels".
The Mx5 is made for old divorced man /maybe multiple divorcee/ with confidence issues, or a young guy at age of 17-18 /not so tall/ to enjoy if its possible to enjoy one.. Audi TT was and is one of those future proof look with over all impressive look/performance.quality. Good review as always.
Still looks modern. 2:04 Audi was so ahead of progressive design. They completely let go of 70's, 80's, and 90's designs. Their designs were and still are built for the future.
Just bought the 225bhp 2001 TT quattro S-Line very fast and race like full service history 127,000 miles MOT till November not much advisory on last MOT new brake pads needed hopefully got a steal and a get a good year or two out it
Just seen this obviously 3 yrs too bloody late… and can’t believe you only paid a grand for it… sod the scuttle… any one in their right mind would put up with that for that kind of price, and for many that’s all part of the fun. It would be great taking it out with the roof down on the Buxton to Leek road imo one of the UK’s most scenic routes and I’m from Wiltshire. Always look forward and enjoy your reviews
I had a mk1 TT roadster and i use to treat it like it was a Ferrari 😂, now i drive the mk3 tt roadster ttrs what a car, i love TTs so good looking sport cars and the mk1 still looks amazing after 20 years!!
Watching this old video it shows how crisp your delivery is now. You're still sorta the same in this video. I'm seriously thinking of a mx5 c and watched this to see what the competition was like and you've confirmed the mazda is the one. Copper red. 2l manual. Maybe hardtop but not sure.
Who are the seven negative / thumbs down people for this review ???????????????? I do believe it is people who didn`t see your hindsight and buy the car before you did 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊. Great review love ya loads. Steve
I would take the TT with 1.8T any day. The materials feel better quality and the car better put together. It’s more fun to drive than the slk, and I dare to say even the Z3 since its so much better built. I drove over 200k km with the 1.8T engine with only regular oil changes. That engine was used in a bunch of VW Group cars and was very good. It even sounds good for a 4 cylinder. Lastly, for fuel economy, it’s definitely not worse than the other two. If you really want an SLK, get a Chrysler Crossfire, same car, half price, equally bad. Hope this helps.
Andy, bloody great cars I've had 2 which both suffered with water ingress as I have a sloping drive. Bought a trombone brush to.clear the drainage channels but could never find the holes to pull the brush through to clear them.Took the car to Mazda Swindon who didn't have a clue.... so reluctantly got rid..
I'm exchanging a motor bike for a TT quattro 225, also comes with the best non private registration plate beginning with TT54. I'm looking forward to it 😊
@@HighPeakAutos Thanks, I'm thinking about doing a small video series on it. Starting from scratch with the gremlins etc on a budget. Something like Edd China style. It's BRITS like yourself that are giving me the inspiration. And nice channel too. Glad I stumbled across it 👍
Great little review ! bargain of the year , me thou just got to go for something bigger like a 6 series BMW with the v8 loverly soundtrack on a hot summers day with the top down , i know your gona say ,expensive to buy and run in comparison but its worth it if you can afford it Any way back to the TT its a belting little car for the money buy the best you can afford and drive it and feel like a king in the summer and to you my friend id like to see you on topgear keep it up cheers Robbie from Huddersfield
There isn’t a £1000 TT for sale in the UK. So god knows how this is possible. Maybe as a trader you lid a grand for it as a p/x, but no way can John Q Public but one for that. This may be one of the best cars you can buy, period. Virtually bullet proof.
Nice looking TT rag top even better 👍 Only ever sold 3 of them my self all being the 225hp all 3 had the same old faults. The last 1 needed a new 3rd gear never again from BCA auctions.
I've had one since 2016 a 05 red roadster it had 123thou it's a lovely summer car , and it's reliable,am in a classic car club but wouldn't call it a classic yet
The original TT is already a classic. And I don't like Audi. It's such a great design. Much like the A2 of the same era. Get one of those to review if you can!
You could park it on your drive and watch it dissolve when it rains! Seriously though, a great car to borrow for the day, you wouldn't want to own one.
Enjoying this until the crack about the MGTF. I've had two MGF's and One TF. yes the head gasket is a pain but not every time you turn the key. Once done its done and they are great cars. My F easily bettered our TT 225 and a recent excursion in a rust bucket called an SLK R170 also confirmed how nice Gerry Mcgoverns design was given MG Rover's limited resources.
Me and the misses had a red quotro a few yrs ago , and you could drive it round the twisty lanes with some gust , it was planted , great little car, was given a front wheel drive newer version and it’s handling was not as good and understeered if you pushed it m cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Loved my 2001 225 TT Roadster Quattro for its design and baseball glove interior. The suspension - or lack of one - not so much. You felt every pebble and fault in the road. The All-weather low profile tires were not - terrible in snow and you can't use chains on a TT. Besides the pixels going bad ( and I bought one brand new ) the glass windblocker window that rises from behind the seats rattled like crazy. Same platform and engine as the VW Beetle turbo of the era; the VW sat higher with more body roll, but at least you could feel it had shocks.
What u need to know is they need timing belt n water pump done about every 30,000 miles not 80,000 to be on the safe side. Haldex oil change..also very hard to work on ..not easy i think you said...eg..to change a front light bulb..how long???? Well you have to undo very hard to get to ( on a mark 1 2006) screws under wheel arch n take the whole front of car off...2 to 3 hours ...i know..its a joke. Hazard lights go...they feel well made but have losts of problems...the biggest being the engine mount bolts shear...engine falls down!!!!! £600.. TO FIX..IM NOT KIDDING...ON THE PLUS SIDE..LOVELY INTERIOR N EXTERIOR STYLING..LOOKS BETTER THAN MOST CARS IN A CAR PARK. A EX CONDITION COUPE 2006 FULL SERVICE HISTORY FROM DEALER WILL SET YOU BACK 5 TO 6K....THATS NOW IN 2019...VERY LOW ORIGINAL MILEAGE 39 TO 44,000. BUT ITS GOT TO BE SUPERB...HIGH MILEAGE ARE ANTHING FROM 2 TO 4K....I THINK THE CONVERTIBLES ARE A BIT GIRLY..BUT THE COUPES..GOOD FIR ANY MAN...HAA
MX-5 or TT? I had an MX-5 & really enjoyed it, dead easy to drop & raise the roof. Had the roof down a lot (not just sunny days) but at that age I'd & price I'd go for the Audi
If you read the reviews by people who have driven a mr2 roadster. It is by far in their opinion a better and more precise drive than an mx5. More of a purists car I guess. Nice video.
i owned the 2002 Audi TT Quattro Coupe, 42000 dollars from the dealer back then...Black with Bisquit interior, and the bigger ,( I think 20 inch?), rims...loved that little car...back then most people thought it was a Porsche here in South Florida..the all wheel drive saved me many times with our crazy rainy season...when I told people the name of the car they thought I was having a joke..".it's a TT Quattro "...they'd be like, "a Titicaca?!"...anyway I love your channel, great vibe, like a conversation with a pal about cars...thanks buddy..
A great choice for a weekend car I had a 225 bhp quattro Hardtop version many years ago in silver with red leather best version to go for was quick and drank like Oliver Reed though 😂great review as always Matt
Ive a 55 reg black on black Audi tt coupe.i can honestly say a brilliant car. Mabey hairdressers know a thing or too .. whatever it suits me .im retired i hardly ever need to carry anyone in the rear. Its not the biggest but with the liftback used its a nice small estate car handy for carrying anything . .these engines just go on and on . I can reccomend one.they dont rust either .ive had this one 5 years now and got no plans to change . Its not worth a lot. But what is .trade in off a dealer would be buttons.it looks good drives well .so i may as well keep it there is no point in getting rid . I bought it 5 years ago for £5500 i reckon ive had my moneys worth .i hope i get anothet 5 years out of it .
You literally posted a mk2 tt video, that is trolling of the highest level, kick a man when he is down ( not really, just looking for a fun project) why don't you
225 and quattro all day long if your going to get one and with the s line lower harder suspension for better handling. Spend around the £3000 mark and youll get a really good one with full service history and better alloys as those look horrible.
@@HighPeakAutos Yeh personally I have the coupe and its really fun to drive hard. Stick a ram air filter on and a decent exhaust and transforms the personality.
High Peak Autos perhaps in another video, suggest your gonna do a q&a and ask for questions in the comments. After a while, pick some of the top 20 questions, maybe a couple of obscure ones and make a video answering them. A little celebration of reaching X amount of subscribers. 😀
Good choice. At this age and money you’re safer going for the 150 - front wheel drive so no haldex issues through poor servicing, less likely to have been thrashed as the ‘lads’ will have wanted the 225s or at least the 180s - and a bigger boot for trips away as no intrusion from the 4 wheel drive system. A bit of a modern classic bargain
Bought one about 10 months ago as a 2nd car. Had a mk1 mx5, then a mk2.5 and just fancied a change. The mx5 is more fun, but I don’t like the mk3’s looks so tried the TT. Got an 05 with 80k on the clock, full history and no dashboard faults for £2.5. Probably paid too much but at this money ‘paying too much’ is a few hundred quid so not worth worrying about. Thinking maybe a 350z next? Thoughts?
Great choice! I don't think that £2500 is too much for an 05 with 80k, that sounds about right to me. I've never had a 350Z, a couple of people have asked me about that, so I'm going to have to look out for one and see what they're like :)
Lol there’s no better place than the UK until, that is, you want to park your nice new convertible with the peace of mind that some maladjusted, cretinous hoodie won’t vandalise it, then that image of the UK utopia melts away like an ice cream on a summer’s day.
Bought a 01 roadster few months ago with baseball interior in states for 3k. Glad I went fwd due to not real quatro awd/weight. Big turbo plans later!!
Haha - MX5! I've owned both a TT and an MX5 when they were new (not at the same time) The 225 bhp quattro was very fast in its day and was completely immune to weather. Grip was great and it felt solid, but the steering was rather inert. Luckily it was under warranty as they had various teething troubles with failed electronics, leaking fuel tanks, cracked windscreens and failed coil packs (all of which should be ancient history for the surviving cars). The MX5 had more delicate handling, a bit less room and was a bit less refined - but was just as much fun and the manual roof was just as easy to use as the TT's electric one. Both of mine had the optional Bose stereos - the TT was excellent, the MX5 was so-so. Both great cars, but the TT is poaaibly more car for your money these days?
The 225 Quattro is the best, but the 150bhp 2wd is good enough if you're on a tight budget. I've had plenty of 225's and there's nothing wrong with them, it was purely a price thing :)
Mx5 is low power low grip so it's no comparason to a tt especially if your comparing the quattro. Mgf and tf stick very well, more grunt and fun than a mx5, the k series was great engine but you do have to be mechanically sympathetic but it's well documented. My experience is of all three cars owned over a number of years.
An MX5 has been a pipedream of mine for many years; all the charm of an English sports car without the reliability issues. Pipedream only in practical terms, a decent second hand one is still cheap enough to buy and running costs are sensible, cost is not the issue. Soft tops are easy to break into, and I don't want to worry about it when I leave it parked up in public view. Right enough, I wouldn't worry so much about a TT but there again I would struggle to like it as my car! Unfair perhaps but once a car has the reputation for being the choice of hairdressers and estate agents you will never feel (or look) cool driving it. Nice car underneath though...damn you hairdressers and estate agents!
Another sensible review , thank you. Since the summer is ahead maybe you would make a review on some 4 seater convertibles that are good value for money.
I'm looking at a 2005 TT with the 3.1(?)L vr6 engine. Should I buy it? It's around $6,000. Also, any tips on maintaining/restoring it? Is the 1.8 good enough to actively look out for over the vr6? Thanks.
I'm not sure. The V6 sounds nicer and has more horse power, but it doesn't make the car that much quicker. They can have timing chain issues, but they don't all suffer from that. Its the luck of the draw I guess (like any used car). If you can find a nice one with good maintenance records, you should be fine
What's wrong with the 1.8 Turbo BAM engine at 225BHP? With off the shelf/ebay parts these engines can be tuned to near 400BHP without stresses. The TT should never have had the V6 option.
I have a ex condition 180hp tt 2006 mark 1....its only done 37k miles. Full service history...worth 5grand... timing belt needs doing on tt anout every 30,000 miles..haldex oil change....great looking...info cluster can go...mines fine..also they never rust....keep low mileage to get decent money back. They are classic looking.....nice cars....watch engine mount bolts...they can shear off....but overall reliable cars.

I just got rid of my Mk1 TT to get a Range Rover Sport, and to be honest... I really miss it!!
Thought it was just me with all the shaking etc I have the 225 changed the 18” wheels for the original 17” fat fives drives far better now.

I doubt that they had the same head gasket kits then. I've had 3 MGFs and all had HGF.
Just bought a mk2 3.2 v6 manual and it's immaculate. 2007 with less than 69000 on the clock in metallic red, it looks fantastic.
I've subscribed now. So I expect to see an MGTF vs MX5 vs MR2 vs TT shoot out - all cars have to cost the same though.... :)
I’ve come from a TF to a TT 225 and the TF can’t hold a candle to the TT in terms of performance, the interior is light years better than a TF too.
TF’s feels fragile in comparison
3 years on and the TF can still be had for not much money privately. The dealers will never sell for what they want.
I agree! Thanks for watching :)
High Peak Autos You’re welcome, and thanks for the excellent reviews. I’m hankering for a big of cut price, old style luxury, so if you ever get to review a late year Jaguar S Type...well, you know.
I will! Thats still on my list of vids.. Along with an AWD X Type estate :)
Loved my old TT, had the 180 with a nice exhaust and remap. Made it a cracking drive.
Love the channel, never get bored of watching revviews of everyday cars
Thanks!
@@theimp67 wouldn't get a Porsche in general. Labour costs are crazy
Your 2nd hand cars are so cheap in the UK, I'm so envious
1, Watch out for haldex issues on quattros, haldex oil, filters & labour are expensive. And 2 they eat coil packs, keep two spare In the car,
I think they also have suspension problems they start clanking knocking if am not mistaken
Anything with 130k on the clock can have worn out suspension components. Its not a serious issue to have fixed though
Mines special had it 3 years stage 1 remap and never had a coil pack or maf sensor fail.
I've really wanted a mk1 TT for a while now and probably going to get one in the coming months. Great video...
Totally agree with the intro. Get a nice fun convertible for good weather, get a Miata
£1000 for that? I should move to the UK
I was looking at either a TT, MX5 or an MR2 but none would suit the criteria of putting a wheelchair in them. I had to go for a Focus CC! Not sporty in anyones book but it puts a smile on my Daughters face every time I say "roof down chels".
Thats what convertibles are all about :)
I have managed to get a refrigerator in the back of my 225 coupe.
... “only get MG TF if you want value for money from your AA membership” that’s funny. Audi always does great interiors.
You need to be mechanically savvy to have the mgf or tf or you can have big garage bills.
Tibor Sandor Haha yeah I agree! Thanks for watching
I'm getting divorced and have a 225bhp roadster and a mk1 eunos that I imported. :-)
Still looks modern.
2:04 Audi was so ahead of progressive design. They completely let go of 70's, 80's, and 90's designs. Their designs were and still are built for the future.
Thats the sign of a great design. Still looks contemporary and relevant 20 years later
Iconic design i was amased by it in the late 90 s . Stil modern in its look. Great car. Havent seen Any rust on them even in denmark.
I think so too! I think the coupe is even better looking. Its iconic
Loved the 1st Gen Audi TT, beautiful shape to them and just stunning convertible!
I have a 180 quattro that has stage1, more power and awd is fun, paid 2k for it 2 years ago and its been a peach.
I had a mk1 TT roadster and i use to treat it like it was a Ferrari 😂, now i drive the mk3 tt roadster ttrs what a car, i love TTs so good looking sport cars and the mk1 still looks amazing after 20 years!!
I had a 2012 TTS and loved it!
@@HighPeakAutos Amazing cars!!
Watching this old video it shows how crisp your delivery is now. You're still sorta the same in this video. I'm seriously thinking of a mx5 c and watched this to see what the competition was like and you've confirmed the mazda is the one. Copper red. 2l manual. Maybe hardtop but not sure.
Here's an idea! You should try out the MG ZT, Its a real charm.
My neighbour had a 2.5V6 in that bright blue colour! Stunning car
That gauge cluster issue is common on all Volkswagen Audi Group cars
Who are the seven negative / thumbs down people for this review ???????????????? I do believe it is people who didn`t see your hindsight and buy the car before you did 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊. Great review love ya loads. Steve
Hahah you can't please everybody :)
Now that is terrific value. A grand for a VAG car and you can get it on Quattro too? Yes please.
Very good value isn't it!
I wish you could pick these up in the U.S. at those prices. Love the styling and quality of the first gen. TT.
How does the TT 1.8 compare against the SLK230 R170 or the 1st gen Z3 1.8 in terms of reliability, build quality, fuel economy and fun factor?
I would take the TT with 1.8T any day. The materials feel better quality and the car better put together. It’s more fun to drive than the slk, and I dare to say even the Z3 since its so much better built. I drove over 200k km with the 1.8T engine with only regular oil changes. That engine was used in a bunch of VW Group cars and was very good. It even sounds good for a 4 cylinder. Lastly, for fuel economy, it’s definitely not worse than the other two. If you really want an SLK, get a Chrysler Crossfire, same car, half price, equally bad. Hope this helps.
@@CanadianInMonaco thank you for that eye opening response :-) Truly appreciate it!
I have a mx5 from roughly the same period. Always interested in how the tt compared. You’d have so much more fun but tt less chav
I'm looking forward to it 😊
Good stuff! The 225's fly!
@@HighPeakAutos Thanks, I'm thinking about doing a small video series on it. Starting from scratch with the gremlins etc on a budget. Something like Edd China style. It's BRITS like yourself that are giving me the inspiration. And nice channel too. Glad I stumbled across it 👍
Thanks! That would be good! If you do, send me the link :)
Great little review !
bargain of the year , me thou just got to go for something bigger like a 6 series BMW with the v8 loverly soundtrack on a hot summers day with the top down , i know your gona say ,expensive to buy and run in comparison but its worth it if you can afford it
Any way back to the TT its a belting little car for the money buy the best you can afford and drive it and feel like a king in the summer
and to you my friend id like to see you on topgear
keep it up
cheers Robbie from Huddersfield
Hi Robbie, yeah you're right, you can beat the V8 noise with the roof down. Cheers :)
A grand for an Audi TT , now that's a bargain. I would take it over a mx-5 any day 👌
god, i really do want one of these now, still a good choice?
Great video. I'd always discounted them as hairdresser's cars but of course over decades images change. Seems like a cool bargain now.
I have always had a soft spot for the TT roadster, but it would be MX5 every time for me coss they are so much more engaging.
Bollocks you need to get out more and see the world .cos you know nothing
Knob
@@ronrichardson3103 Go screw yourself. Clearly no one else will.
There isn’t a £1000 TT for sale in the UK. So god knows how this is possible. Maybe as a trader you lid a grand for it as a p/x, but no way can John Q Public but one for that.
This may be one of the best cars you can buy, period. Virtually bullet proof.
Nice looking TT rag top even better 👍
Only ever sold 3 of them my self all being the 225hp all 3 had the same old faults. The last 1 needed a new 3rd gear never again from BCA auctions.
I've had one since 2016 a 05 red roadster it had 123thou it's a lovely summer car , and it's reliable,am in a classic car club but wouldn't call it a classic yet
Another 5 years and it will for sure
The original TT is already a classic. And I don't like Audi. It's such a great design. Much like the A2 of the same era. Get one of those to review if you can!
You could buy a Alfa spider spider the last generation model
It’s definitely a better looking car but not sure what’s it like to own
All good things
You could park it on your drive and watch it dissolve when it rains! Seriously though, a great car to borrow for the day, you wouldn't want to own one.
I was looking for a convertible and it was either the tt or the MR2. I'm now going to focus on the tt. Thanks for posting.
Good choice!
Great video Hun !!
Youre right, they're very cheap to buy now and chances are its had its head gasket sorted
I once had one with the baseball leather. Nice cars but I wouldnt want to drive one long distances every day
not a badd looking motor for a geand, looks clean and fun
fur king el Thanks 😉
I have really wanted one of these for years...... hopefully will be my next purchase
You don't need a lot of horsepower, because above 60 mph with all convertibles you need ear defenders, as there is a serious amount of decibels.
I prefer the look of the coupes too
Ideal summer purchase that. You could drive it until August, sell it and break even!!!?!!
I think youre right!
I didn't realise that I had company while watching this till I heard my wife say, "I really like that"......oh well......lovely car btw.
My ex-girlfriend was always complaining about me watching car videos. Maybe that's one of many little aspects why I "kicked" her!;-)
MX-5 or TT? I had an MX-5 & really enjoyed it, dead easy to drop & raise the roof. Had the roof down a lot (not just sunny days) but at that age I'd & price I'd go for the Audi
Paul Lees The MX5 is more fun to drive, but the Audi is finished nicer... tough one but probably the Audi
If you read the reviews by people who have driven a mr2 roadster. It is by far in their opinion a better and more precise drive than an mx5. More of a purists car I guess. Nice video.
@@dinono10 But is it less practical? Are you talking about Mark 2 MR2?
Only thing what does me is the front wheel drive, it means nothing but could mean so much.
i owned the 2002 Audi TT Quattro Coupe, 42000 dollars from the dealer back then...Black with Bisquit interior, and the bigger ,( I think 20 inch?), rims...loved that little car...back then most people thought it was a Porsche here in South Florida..the all wheel drive saved me many times with our crazy rainy season...when I told people the name of the car they thought I was having a joke..".it's a TT Quattro "...they'd be like, "a Titicaca?!"...anyway I love your channel, great vibe, like a conversation with a pal about cars...thanks buddy..
Looking at a 2003 silver coupe from friend, slight power steering leak, brake pipes adv last mot, 1k from friend, 180bhp
You literally posted a mk2 tt video, that is trolling of the highest level, kick a man when he is down ( not really, just looking for a fun project) why don't you
Ireland ;) On a sunny day there is nowhere better. maybe England can come in close second.

225 and quattro all day long if your going to get one and with the s line lower harder suspension for better handling. Spend around the £3000 mark and youll get a really good one with full service history and better alloys as those look horrible.
I agree on some points, but it depends what you want to use it for :)
@@HighPeakAutos Yeh personally I have the coupe and its really fun to drive hard. Stick a ram air filter on and a decent exhaust and transforms the personality.

You would've thought so, but its in good order :)
Great video and approaching 8k subscribers....ever thought about a Q&A video??
Acarsguy I might do! Not sure how to go about it
High Peak Autos perhaps in another video, suggest your gonna do a q&a and ask for questions in the comments. After a while, pick some of the top 20 questions, maybe a couple of obscure ones and make a video answering them. A little celebration of reaching X amount of subscribers. 😀
Good idea!
I've got a TT 1.8 Roadster, 2006 at 47,000 miles. Is that decent?
Good choice. At this age and money you’re safer going for the 150 - front wheel drive so no haldex issues through poor servicing, less likely to have been thrashed as the ‘lads’ will have wanted the 225s or at least the 180s - and a bigger boot for trips away as no intrusion from the 4 wheel drive system. A bit of a modern classic bargain
I agree! It makes more sense really if you're after a very cheap example
20yrs..........WTF where did that go? 🤔🤔
Dude you've never been to Tuscany.
Hi pls I'll like to know is this a good idea for a daily driver?
Bought a 01 roadster few months ago with baseball interior in states for 3k. Glad I went fwd due to not real quatro awd/weight. Big turbo plans later!!
I had one with the baseball interior a few years ago. Its a rare option :)
Both great cars, but the TT is poaaibly more car for your money these days?
may i ask why you prefer 150hp 2wd over the 225 quattro? did you test both? or just because of the price?
The 225 Quattro is the best, but the 150bhp 2wd is good enough if you're on a tight budget. I've had plenty of 225's and there's nothing wrong with them, it was purely a price thing :)
Mx5 is low power low grip so it's no comparason to a tt especially if your comparing the quattro. Mgf and tf stick very well, more grunt and fun than a mx5, the k series was great engine but you do have to be mechanically sympathetic but it's well documented. My experience is of all three cars owned over a number of years.
I've only had one vehicle that had an attached roof. That was painful.
Wait? A thousand pounds???
I've got some planned :)
In Serbia Audi TT roadster 1.8 turbo in that condition costs like 5000 €.
Same in Australia.
@@EnglishLaw oh i just stumbled upon the v6 easily. So you think its wiser to find a 1.8L then? Even if i'm not looking to go for 400hp anytime soon?
@@EnglishLaw can you educate me on the capabilities of the v6?
I have a ex condition 180hp tt 2006 mark 1....its only done 37k miles. Full service history...worth 5grand... timing belt needs doing on tt anout every 30,000 miles..haldex oil change....great looking...info cluster can go...mines fine..also they never rust....keep low mileage to get decent money back.
