  • In this episode of Easy Jazz Spotlight, we speak with the legendary singer Ava Cherry from Chicago. Cherry, who worked as a waitress in New York City in the early 1970s, met David Bowie at a party. The two hit it off and had both a personal and professional relationship from 1972 to 1975. Cherry was a back-up singer for both Bowie and Luther Vandross, but also worked as a fashion model. She has a vibrant solo career that includes jazz, and more recently, has been producing her own music. Cherry, at 70 years of age, is not slowing down - planning to be in a movie soon. She spoke with our guest host Stefan Zaichkowski, about her remarkable career and her philosophies on life.

Ava is a remarkable singer/entertainer. The fashion, hair etc., is just an extension of her awesomeness. I was thinking about her the other day when on a major Luther kick. I miss him. I also miss David Bowie. I'm so happy Ava is still recording. God bless!
