  • From my VHS recordings, here is a collection of bumpers, promos and commercials that aired on the Sci-Fi Channel on August 8th, 1999. Specifically, this was during the premiere broadcast of the final episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode "Diabolik", on the Sci-Fi Channel.
This was after the rebrand of the bumpers in early 1999, which I consider to be the end of the Golden Age of the Sci-Fi channel and the start of the Silver Age (with the premiere of "Farscape" in March, 1999, which paved the way for shows like "Battlestar Galactic" and "Stargate Atlantis"). This gives you an idea of what the Sci-Fi Channel was like in the late Summer of 1999.
    Included here:
    1. MST3K Final Episode promo ("next!")
    2. Sci-Fi Channel bumper (1999 version)
    3. The MST3K bumper
    4. "SciFi.com" website promo
    6. Fresh Step Scoop cat litter commercial
    7. "Lincoln LS" luxury car commercial
    8. Quick Sci-Fi Channel bumper
    9. "'The Sky is Falling' Week" theme week promo. Airing a collection of "asteroids hitting Earth" films, probably to tap into the popularity of late 90's films like "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact".
    10. The MST3K bumper
    11. "First Wave" Chain Reaction promo (the "Chain Reaction" was their buzzword for a marathon of episodes).
    12. Visa credit card commercial
    13. "The Blair Witch Project" promo (aka "the first film that was marketed by the internet" and "the first 'Found Footage' horror film"). It was released nationwide on July 30th, 1999, and I do remember going to see it in August of that year.
    14. Quick Sci-Fi Channel bumper
    15. "Scientific American" magazine promo
    16. "Sprint PCS" phone plan commercial
    17. Pillsbury Crescent rolls commercial
    18. "Scoop Away" cat litter commercial
    19. Quick Sci-Fi Channel bumper
    20. Ameritrade commercial. I loved this commercial. It was also a sign of the "Dot-com" stock market bubble that was on the rise and which would burst a year or so later.
    21. The MST3K bumper
    22. "10-10-321" phone plan commercial
    23. Doritos "3D snacks" commercial (this one also feels iconic from that year).
    24. "Chevy Tracker" contest promo
    25. "Deep Blue Sea" movie promo (Yes, that's Peter "Optimus Prime" Cullen narrating the promo). This is another one I saw in theaters that year.
    26. "Barely There" underwear commercial
    27. "Motel 6" commercial
    28. "Sliders" series promo
    29. "First Wave" Chain Reaction promo
    30. "Youth Smoking Prevention" advertisement
    31. Pringles "Ridges" Twin Pack commercial
    32. "Pillsbury Toaster Scrambels" commercial
    33. The MST3K promo
    34. "Eclipse" juice promo
    35. "Subway" fast food commercial
    36. "Honey Nut Chex" cereal commercial
    37. Quick Sci-Fi Channel bumper
    38. "Gateway" PC commercial
    39. US Mint "50 State Quarters" promo (featuring Kermit the Frog). Anyone else try to collect all of those "special" quarters?
    40. "Night of the Comet" promo (for "The Sky is Falling" theme week)
    41. "This has been a presentation of the Sci-Fi Channel" end bumper. This aired right after the final MST3K episode finished.
Commentary: I believe that's the last of my "Mystery Science Theater 3000" material. I used to have more, but they've likely been lost. Still, I figured I had to share the first episode and the last episode from the show's time on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Also, sorry for delays in between uploads, I've had some "technical difficulties" with my equipment. But those issues are now largely resolved. Safely transferring recordings of old commercials from VHS to digital is....a process.
    Stay tuned, more to come!

I remember watching old vhs recordings of this show as a kid and I've loved it ever since. I have a question you might be able to answer. There was a commercial I can recall from those tapes and it was shot from inside a house and the camera was looking out a window or a window in a door. There was someone walking towards the door from outside and I want to say that it was snowing and all you could hear was the sound of the wind as you watched the figure get closer to the door. I don't remember what it was a commercial for I just distinctly remember this commercial existing. Are you familiar with it ?
