To save money, among other reasons. LA is expensive.
I think it has to do with the whole concept of the show, they showing a depiction of a well-rounded family and I think the grandmother and the grandfather living there is a nod to the saying it takes a village to raise a child. Also I think it is a good look because it do show that some black families Stay Together. Also as far as The Show Goes issue a good concept of how younger Generations think different than older Generations I think they make the show more well-rounded
