- This song is such a fun groove and fill song. I believe Stevie Wonder played drums on this one. It just has that Stevie Wonder looseness to the pocket. But it could have been Raymond Pounds!
Believe or not I was trying to keep up with all of the fills that come out of no where! Lots of toms helped!
Enjoy!

What I liked about this guy is that he played the lead in on the drums to the song. Very few do that and start immediately with the song. Also including the baby. Great job !!!! Love it !!!!!!
Thanks for the feedback Robert! That intro was harder than the song! But I’m glad I did it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
Right! I came here specifically looking for the intro - I loved it!
I was just listening to this song while walking my dog out. Perfect as always, Earl! Great Master of this Drumming Community!
busting out the concert toms that's how you know this is going to be a killer video.. awesome man. Great groove.
Thanks for the kind words Eric! This song needed the concert toms … Stevie played drums on this one and just played shuffle to fill over and over for six minutes! I don’t think I over played it!
Those toms are sounding majestic.
Thanks for the feedback Jacob! I think this was the right kit choice for the song! 😎👍🏻🙏🏻🤘🏻
My man!!! Omg this is so damn hot and technically a masterpiece! I am honored to have seen and heard this! Incredible job sir!!! Has a special place in my heart! Thanks so much!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Jim thanks for the kind words and encouragement! 🙏🏻🥁👍🏻😎
Such a great song. Played greatly Earl!
Even though we live in the same town, I played exactly one gig with Richard Davis. It was for a wedding and this was the song we played for the bride as she came down the aisle (one of his former bass students whom I have worked with for 30 years). Anyway, she got Richard to play this with me and a sax player and piano. Pretty cool memory in the park that day 26 years ago! (Richard really, really plays ahead of the beat by the way! LOL!) I was expecting a deeper pocket on it. Oh well.
Great story Jim! You know long time SW bass player Nathan Watts was on this track …. Did Richard tour with Stevie?
@@earldrum I know. Not Richard. No not at all. It just reminded me of the one song I played with RD. He's just been in Madison since about 1979 after his work with Thad and Mel and Sarah Vaughan etc. Retired from UW Madison. He's now in a nursing home, but used to frequent the store where I work. Once his Fender P bass was in for some work. I had wondered if it was the bass he used on a few tracks of Central Park North from Thad and Mel. Probably. I think it was a '65. Otherwise, he was strictly a jazz upright guy. He did play on a Van Morrison record. No hits though.
@@jimflys2 … Richard has done some pop music too! He’s on a Bruce “Bedspring” album (I’m from Jersey .. he’s not my favorite Jersey artist, but I have played with lots of guys that have played with Bruce!!!!!). Thanks for watching Jim!
Amazing my friend..I liked you fill..

Wow!!! That was killer! I was sure missing them hats too.
Thanks for the feedback Keith! 👍🏻🤘🏻🙏🏻
Great intro Tom work👏👏👏👏👏. Nice one Hammer
Thanks for the feedback Chad! It’s tough recording that intro with a screaming kid in your ears! 😂😎🤘🏻🙏🏻
Yeah, couldn’t believe that that got left in and especially at the end. I sure he listens to it now, has thoughts About that creative decision 😃. I actually listen to this song less because of it. But, I always loved that outro
@@doubledeucedrums that song goes on for 6 minutes … harmonica solo after harmonica solo! I just tried to stay in it and catch the ending! I only played the song three times, but the intro about 20 times! That was tough to lock-in! This my best intro of the three takes!
The toms end was so fun. That had to be crazy hard to lock in where He brings the One back in, after each ending phrase and…with the kid elating in the front of the mix. 😄
man setting up and breaking down those kits must be a chore...thanks!
Setting up that kit in my home studio is a joy! Taking on a gig … won’t happen anytime in the future! Small drums and light hardware rule for local gigs! Backline kit …. Even better … just show up and play! 🙏🏻🤘🏻👍🏻😎
Nice playing there man, loving the sound of the tom's at the start !!!
Thanks for watching my friend! 🙏🏻🤘🏻👍🏻😎
@@earldrum you're very welcome Earl, cheers man

You are right as alway my copywriter friend! I also deleted the 10x14 not in use! 😁🤘🏻🙏🏻👍🏻😎
@@earldrum Hahaha! Great! Thanks for the update and LOVE the elongated tom roll intro!!!!
@@jametz66 the album cut! It’s always fun trying to lockup with original drum intro over a baby crying! 😂😂😂😂
@@earldrum LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
