Jordan's Angry Tribes | People and Power

  • Jordan and its Hashemite monarchy have long been regarded as stable fixtures in a region often beset by political uncertainty.
But King Abdullah II is under growing pressure to reboot a struggling economy, institute constitutional reform, and stand firm against a controversial US-Saudi scheme, the so-called "Deal of the Century" to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
We sent filmmakers Mariam Shahin, Nada Issa and George Azar to find out why these pressures are becoming difficult for the government to ignore and what effect they are having on the kingdom's delicate demographic balance - between increasingly angry members of its indigenous tribes, known as "East Bankers", and Palestinians who have fled here in the past six decades and become citizens.

Palestinians from West Bank and Israel 1948 are more related to people of Syria, Lebanon etc "Shami"..
Monobrow, Perpetual 5 o'clock Shadow, denim jeans, "jewfro"...think Tony Shalhoub
Bedouins of Jordan are more related to the roaming, white thobe wearing sunglasses, thick Saddam stache + goatee, Aquiline features, prayer beads...think Omar Bin Laden (the younger son of Osama)...

There are very few stable middle eastern countries and they are about to ruin this one. The country takes in more refugees than anyone else. Most of which I bet need financial support. The country doesn't seem to have that much in terms of natural resources. It must be hard to put any kind of economic plans in place with all the other problems that need overwhelming attention. I feel sorry for the king.

@Kurmi Nachle you can shout, scream, gesticulate and do whatever you want , this is one if not the only one to have peace . Meaning nobody bombardes women and children in Jordanie. Does it ? It's a matter for them to vote an alternative action : meaning Jordanian first , the citizenship should be regulated . Any crimes commited by a non Jordanian citizen would bring the criminal to their original country with no court case. See how it's going to work. Any country receiving immigrants in their land should abide by this law which should be written in every constitution of each nation. How is that????

    • @emigab5497

@Kurmi Nachle do you really think that in every nation in this earth the locals belong to the flaura and
Do you really think that king is going to look backward after decades of years where he comes from. Look for yourself Mister Nachle , if this is your real name , where does it come from ? Ask yourself the question and you will be amased. My point is : nowadays when a country lives in peace then let it be . The women and children will leave without fear .

True, but although he may be good, the nobles are rebelling against their king under fear of Trump's deal and their loss of power.
The solution would be for the king to reconquer Jerusalem and Palestine so that Palestinians have a home of their own that way there will be less strain on the system and Jordan needs a secure source of water and needs means of earning money.
Jordan is low in resources and has to get water from Israel, this is why the king's hands are tied.
And although we can sympathize with the king, the Nobles are still suffering and they can only sympathize for a little while before they have to go protest.
It is factual that the nobles invited the monarchy, the monarchy did not elevate those tribes to nobility.
As such the king was hired by the tribes, and they will support him as long as their power is not threatened.
Jordan needs more land and resources, sadly Jordan is too weak to attack and conquer Israel, especially with American support for Israel, so there is very little the king can do.
The king is stuck in a difficult situation.

Point in fact, they would like to see that for the whole of the Arab world. Deeply indebted and underdeveloped, consumer nations buying technology and weaponry from US, with the money they'll loan you, so you can buy all you need as oppose to be a nomad free to roam and make a decent living, albeit a happy one! Israelis commander on the Jordanian army:
We didn't expect the Jordanian army to fight the way it did. I don't believe that the commander of the 7th Brigade thought that so many of his tanks would be hit. I'm sure that no one thought that the enemy would respond with artillery fire. You're allowed to make a mistake in assessing a situation but, it seems to me, there was a moment when the assessment could have been altered - when we saw that things weren't turning out as we had thought and that the Jordanians weren't fleeing to Amman. Had we thought that the Jordanian army would act as it did, I'm convinced the air force would have struck first.[5]

The Problem as to why Arab Armies lose wars lies in the simple reason that Decision Making as well as Implementation is all centralised. Also there are conflicting Loyalties and that the Promotions are awarded on Basis of Tribal Affiliation or belonging to certain families or having Clan Loyalties and so on as opposed to merit. Whereas in the Israeli and other Western Armies Decision is made Centrally yet the Execution and Implementation is Decentralised, whereas an Arab Army will alway wait for fresh Orders from the Centre every time the Situation changes. So that way time is wasted and Enemies Advance. Also valuable information is not shared with others in an Arab Army, so anyone with any Vital Information is reluctant or hesitant to share it.

Many oppose the idea of women working, especially earning a high salary, while information technology concepts often clash with their ideals on religion(this applies to technology overall though).

Long live our wise and compassionate king , long live Jordan, one thing that holds Jordan together , it is our royal family , the hashmites .
You can see clearly how the people are divided and mostly ignorant , two Jordanians can't set together to agree on any ideology , what is a normal developmental milestone for Jordan and it's capabilities is to simply try to squeeze it self out of the current hardships we are facing , so one day maybe Jordanians as Individuals will have a brighter perspective for there country and it's role in the region.
Jordan is part of the balfour declaration and still is , Jordan is special in every meaning of the word in this region , Jordan was meant to stay a safe haven for the Arabs in the region and by God will it will stay that way and it will definitely move in a much more progressive direction than any other Arab state in the region simply because we have no political agendas or regional claims of superiority , we simply want the best for every one and specially for the Jordanians.
And this special blend of what we love and adore as the current Jordan is simply a vision , a system that was designed and built for a better future by the hashemites , regarding our current situation in such a turbulent region , we are actually doing just great , but sadly people will never understand , and I don't think most of us will ever will understand, as I said earlier Jordan developmental milestones in such a region are going really well , and so does the people of Jordan as a collective are also developmentally trying to comprehend what is going on , but this is normal and expected , I only hope for a brighter future like any human being on this earth .

The reality that Israeli commanders testimony is an evident that the Israeli attack was fully coordinated with the King himself.
All Jordanian army courageous fights were in fact an individual decision disobeying the higher commands orders. @@hashemnsour5956 Your country is on the precipice of a tidal wave. Make no mistake about it. The days of the Hashemites are coming to an end. Whether by the hands of the Americans or the Jordanians, it doesn't matter. The writing is on the wall and another so-called "king" will meet his maker.

i would say Jordan, Lebanon and Syria should unite Amman would be the financial capital Damascus would be the political capital and Beirut the main port and king Abdullah the second rule as a king in a constitutional monarchy then with a lot of work the economy would be better a more unity .i feel that would be a great scenario it would be good for every one in these countries especially when all of them have there own parables if they want to work together and let go of the past and the minor differences between them especially greater Syria or the Levant region.

Sorry to shatter your Hope's but this is La La land not reality. The relationship is tense between the 3 and each government has it's own allies and enemies. Not to mention that Syria and Lebanon have already a complex political situation of their own they don't need a combined bigger hot mess .

How come Jordanian king is European

  • @bartversteege2910
    @bartversteege2910 5 лет назад +6

but jordan is in history part of pallestine....so what is the problem here ?
the king is only supported by the jordan tribs and there is a weakness for the long run, also is the jordan economy not self supporting and lives on handouts for many decades now.
a palestinian econemy is also not self supporting and political onstablenes (endless infighting...) make is even worse.
so if the king goes and palestine ( area A+B) merger with jordan and and economic deal with israel proves real and prodctiv, then there is room for progress

98% of the Jordanian tribes or even more stand by the monarchy and the king. In your "Documentary" you're portraying it as if 98 percent of these tribes oppose the monarchy. As a Jordanian i feel really disappointed by you focusing on the poorest of the poorest areas as if it was the general. It is as going to the US and focusing your interviews with homeless people to generalize that the US is poor. Please stop

The main problem might be this tribes ideology which mean that the leaders see their country in a very narrow definition related to their interests being more than the next. Every modern country till now has one people, not self interest group but of course this is changing and that is why Europe is and will fragment as the refugees bring their ideology of identity.
