Feed My Pet Friday: Tiger Salamanders!

- Today my tiger salamanders feast on a buffet of items: We attempt to feed crickets, mealworms, earthworms, dubia roaches, and Repashy Grub Pie. Will they eat it all? Or will they pick and choose? Watch to find out if salamanders have food preferences!
“Such a cute roach,” feeds it to the salamander immediately after humanizing it.

After they get used to feeding they will perk up. It took me a few months of hand feeding but now my tiger can stand on his hind legs without needing the glass when he's hungry. He props himself on his log and uses his tail to stand up, its quite the ridiculous sight.

I found a tiger salamander when I was ten years old. It lived for almost 15 years and was over 12 inches long. Wonderful pet.

I handle tiger salamanders (and other animals) at work. I love how they will snap at anything that gets near their heads. We call them "Hungry Hungry Hippos".
I'm thinking of getting a Tiger salamander, slightly difficult to get one in the UK though, by far my favourite amphibian!

How do you find a reliable source of earthworms? A bait shop?
Sydney Ford some gas stations sell bait and tackle. I’ve seen a lot that have earthworms and night crawlers in tubs.

Just found a Tiger Salamander! Live in Yuma Colorado and this guy is so small! Not tiny tiny, but only about 6 or 7 inches long and I am so excited! He is a little boy from what I can tell.

The great thing about these beautiful muddy amphibians is that they are not fussy eaters. Yes, they will grab your finger but eventually reject it.

It's so funny seeing a salamander that can fit a finger in its mouth tbh. I have a Pacific long toed salamander my dad found in a warehouse dustbin and he tries constantly to eat my fingers but he's too small so he bounces right off! My first sally was also a long toed and he did the same. They're like little gluttons tbh

That last "grub pie" stuff worked with these salamanders, because they've obviously become accustomed to being fed, so these particular specimens will eat anything. But I think most salamanders would ignore that grub pie stuff, and go for the things that move.
