    I loved Kick Ass! A perfect mix of teen comedy and the super hero genre. There is nothing about this movie that I could complain about because I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it.

    Kick Ass is a modern classic. Its excellant its subversive, funny, intelligent, well directed and acted. Im sure there will be alot of people who piss there pants about a 10 yr old girl committing acts of incredible violence and swearing and to them id say why watch something you know is going to offend your ridiculous sensibilities?. Some people just like to be offended and love getting on their high horses and thats far more perverse than anything in kick ass or countless other films...

    I've watched this film about 5 times. Bizarely charming. Querkily fab. Can someone tell me why the end isn't perfect..? No matter, the rest is great fun.

    The film delivers violence, action, humour & loveable characters that delivers another form of the superhero genre. (82%) (4/5 stars) (positive)

    ooooh thank you for this vid!!! usually really like Mark Kermode's reviews (and more often than not, agree heartily with them) and i LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE Mark Strong. Thank you!

    @spocka1p I consider the following when judging film violence:1) By whom & to whom is the violence committed? e.g., are innocent victims hurt by heroes? 2) Does the movie expect you to derive pleasure from the graphic, lingering shots of pain or torture? 3) Is the movie's moral "message" prescriptive or is it satirical/deconstructive? Kick-Ass passes the test. It is a deconstruction/satire of the superhero genre. Showing the moral dysfunction in Kick-Ass' world is the movie's subtextual purpose.

    I really remember the Mark Millar/John Romita Jr comic hitting me like a bullet between the eyes when I first read it, if this film is really sincere in translating the comic to the silver screen I'll be the first in line to see it,
    Thanks for the review Mark.

  • @maxben3391
    @maxben3391 9 лет назад +9

    Its funny, I liked this film until I read the source material. The comic is so horrible that it just coloured everything that has come out of. I know it sounds stupid, but everytime I try to think of the movie I think of the comics and shudder.

    That's interesting, because I felt that way about Super, but I thought Kick-Ass was much more compassionate. I guess that shows how subjective a movie experience is.

    Kermode told Gareth Evans while they were talking about his movie Son of Rambow that he completely fucked up The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And Evans then told Kermode to fuck off.

    Just saw Kick-Ass last night. It was ok but left me rather cold. On the issue of violence I couldn't help but feel slightly uncomfortable - largely because the tone was uneven. One minute the violence was intentionally nasty (the chair beating), the next we were meant to revel in the bloody over-the-top style. It perhaps wouldn't have felt as awquard if all the characters hadn't all been kids. This is from sum1 that likes both Inglourious and Wanted.

    Mark Kermode would have said and gone on for ages about how much he hated it if he did. Having one of the films stars right next to him would not have influenced the review at all.

    I kind of thought Kick Ass was very mean spirited and It hated its own characters. I just couldn't get behind it at all. I've watched it twice and the second time wasn't as bad but it still seemed to leave a bitter taste.

  • @Blowjegek
    @Blowjegek 14 лет назад

    @gnuochtapir its just not a "normal" film, which is why I think it's a great film, it doesn't try and please everyone. Like mark said, the maker wanted to make this film like it is and I think that is the best way. Films that are for the masses are usually shitty because they try and please everyone and then the films turn out shallow and simple

    Well the real answer is that as they've moved away from the silly reactionary conservative censorship-oriented organisation typified by the Video Nasties era, and moved into the more liberal, carefully considered, advisory body with tons of online transparency, his respect for them has grown.
    And mine too actually cos you get the sense that they'd rather stop doing the government's censorship work and just be in the business of classification and consumer advice.
