If you weren't around when this game came out you can't understand how amazing this game was for its time.
The graphics, the story, the voice acting. It changed people's perceptions of what a video game could be.

You ain't wrong. Heck I still play a lot of old PS1 games with their old glitchy graphics and outdated polygons because I don't want to forget that storytelling and gameplay beat out graphics every time as long as you have enough imagination.
To be frank though, I think the look of these games, the way textures would stretch at certain camera angles or just vanish entirely, letting you see through walls or the way character models looked like papercraft puppets made of boxes held together by string, I think it's part of the charm and appeal of these games.
Look at Spyro's recent remakes. Sure the new graphics and textures make the world look cool and real but I think something gets lost in the transition.
I'm not saying to never remake games, MGS: The Twin Snakes for example is still a great version of MGS, some of the PS2 Tenchu and Armored Core games remade levels from the very first games and they looked fine, Tomb Raider 1 vs Anniversary, even the FF7 Remake and Resident Evil Remake.
There is stuff to love in these. Remakes are not inherently bad. However, they should never replace the original content. MGS: The Twin Snakes is a good remake of MGS, but there is just something about the original that cannot be replaced and I have to say, the old graphics are part of the irreplaceable, and inimitable spirit of the original.

I did.. was 6yo in 1997. But maybe this was for PSX or casual players.. some of PC games of that exactly year and era almost had superior 3D graphics, but yeah compared to that age it was mindblowing. Also, that team Kojima had for MGS1 on PSX was totally new at 3D texture/modelling. None of them had experience, they builded everything from scratch without almost know what "3D" means, so it is more pretty impressive.

    • @AvanteFPS

@@Devilot91 The graphics for the time were impressive but the biggest thing it had going for it was the camera angles, cinematic cutscenes, Hollywood grade voice acting, storyline and dialogue.

Played the demo at my local Wal-Mart, back when they had the monitors you had to crane your head back to look up to. Played thru till the vent crawling part and knew I had to ask for this for Christmas. Got this along with NFL Blitz for PS1 that year ('98) and my idea of what video games were (and could be) was changed forever. None of the other games in the franchise even came remotely close to capturing a speck of the magic that this game has, and the overall gaming industry took about a decade to catch up on styling, story quality, and development effort. Even now, the story of 'Metal Gear Solid' still has the exact same impact as it did back then. A timeless masterpiece.

Mgs3 is I think objectively a better game than 1&2 because of how many game play features and story inovations it made however I prefer 1 as a game because of the more grounded style and amazing storyline with many twists and turns. What I'm trying to say is mgs1 beats out the rest of the series with its amazing presentation and its unrelenting will to create a story and gameplay so well intertwined. Mgs is my favourite game series of all time and a true cinematic experience

I'd actually played the (horrible) NES port of MG1 years prior, but I didn't realize they belonged in the same franchise before much later.
The cinematography, OST, voice acting, atmosphere... many things in MGS1 were ahead of their time, and set up new standards.
It tells you something when even the gaming magazines at the time could only recommend readers to try out games like RE2 or FF7 if they liked the MGS.

This game, FF7, Twisted Metal and Tekken 3 were mind blowing at the time. Going from SNES and Genesis to 3D was an insane transition, even though the tech was in the early stages. There were alot of shitty 3D games too. It was disappointing to see a lack of 2D games initially but it definately had that magic feeling. I first got a real taste for 3D games on a Best Buy kiosk for the Playstation. At that point that system became a goal.

@@vksasdgaming9472 I really enjoyed Andromeda. I went through on the Insanity mode and experienced very little glitches. I dont really give a shit about story so I was more focused on the gameplay. I thought it looked and played great. Cyberpunk I thought was decent. I didnt have huge issues with glitching on Series X but felt that the combat was pretty average. The world was cool though.
FF7 Remake was top notch. It feels different than the original but has enough elements from the old atmosphere to make it feel fresh.

    • @vksasdgaming9472
      @vksasdgaming9472 3 года назад +1

@@theconsolekiller7113 I liked Andromeda as well. It was more optimistic Space Western instead of Space Opera with apocalyptic tones so it just felt nice and light game to play. It also had exploration that first Mass Effect also had in it. More weight on gameplay - less emphasis on dramatic story. PS4-version of CP2077 ran well enough and I think both are bashed way too hard. Both had bad launch and then gullible sheep just jumped to hatedom "cuz it's cool yo" to hate something everyone else hates.
FF7 Remake was exactly what I hoped: expansion and clarification of already fine story and execution was top-notch. It had very clumsy ending in my books as it just fragmented to pieces in the end and I just lost it.
