Das kleine Städchen Traben-Trabach liegt geradezu idyllisch im Tal der Mosel. An einem ihrer Ufer steht ein historisches denkmalgeschütztes Gebäude aus dem Jahr 1833. Es verfügt über einen großen Festsaal, einen Clubraum, ein Restaurant, eine Kegelbahn und einen kleinen Festraum. Für das aufstrebende Bürgertum des 19. Jahrhunderts war das Casino ein wichtiges Zentrum der Kommunikation.
Bis 1980 bewirtschaftete die Casino-Gesellschaft selbst ihr Haus, danach wurden die Räume für größere Feiern an einen Gastronomen verpachtet, aber auch das war fast zum Erliegen gekommen und die Einnahmen reichten bei weitem nicht aus, um das Haus auf Dauer in Ordnung zu halten. Eine dringend notwendige Komplettsanierung würde eine sechsstellige Summe verschlingen - ein Betrag, den die finanziell klamme Casino-Gesellschaft schlicht und einfach nicht aufbringen konnte. Schweren Herzens tat man das, was vor Jahrzehnten noch undenkbar schien: im November 2012 verkaufte man die renovierungsbedürftige Immobilie für 90.000 Euro an einen Investor. Dieser ist darauf spezialisiert, "Problemimmobilien" in Traben-Trarbach zu kaufen, zu sanieren und umzubauen. Das marode Casino-Gebäude wartet noch auf eine Instandsetzung und eine neue Nutzung.
The small town of Traben-Trabach is idyllically situated in the valley of the Moselle. On one of its shores lies a historic listed building from 1833. It has a large ballroom, a club room, a restaurant, a bowling alley and a small party room. For the aspiring bourgeoisie of the 19th century, the casino was an important center of communication.
Until 1980, the casino company ran its own home, then the rooms were leased to a restaurateur for larger celebrations, but that had almost come to a standstill and the revenue was far from sufficient to keep the house in order in the long run. A much needed complete refurbishment would swallow up a six-figure sum - an amount that the financially dull casino company simply could not afford. With a heavy heart they did what had seemed unthinkable decades ago: in November 2012 the property in need of renovation was sold to an investor group for 90,000 euros. They specialize in buying, renovating and rebuilding "problem real estate" in Traben-Trarbach. The ailing casino building is still waiting for the repairs and a new use.
