Kaptain, love all of your TI videos, always very good advice. Thanks! I wanted to say that the faction ability Star Forge is great for delaying and waiting out someone until they have to pass, adding fighters being secondary in that case but obviously still welcome. Since it isn’t once per round, you can run that action again and again (assuming you have the strategy tokens). The gift that keeps on giving.
Hi! Just wanted to share with you that I followed your advices and I totally won against 4 expert gamers, all men (and I'm a girl). Amazing game! I had my warsun upgrade on round 2 thanks to AI techno. I gave my muuat premissory note to a desperate player who went against the potential winner and asked back his premissory note cease fire just in case. He totally forgot about it and it saved me on the last round. I used my hero to set my supernova near my homebase to secure any attempt to take it from me and prevent me from scoring my last decisive 2 points. Youhou! Thanks again!
@@TheBoardGameKaptain omg, I just realized I never came back and said, I won my first game with Muaat! :) It was also the first game I won playing with that particular group, so it was nice to finally establish myself as a real threat to them, and that was thanks to you! :) Finally getting to play again this weekend for the first time in forever, so I'm coming back to listen to some of your vids again. Thanks again for making these!
This grokking review is on fire! ;) The sky, the sky, the sky is on fire The sky, the sky, the sky is on fire We don't need no water, let the Hylar burn Burn Hylar, burn Your ninja dog is stealing your show! :D
I think I would go for AI Development Algorithm as the first Tech. If you can get a red or yellow tech planet in round one, you can then get your upgraded warsun as early as round two. If not, you can get Sarween Tools in round two and are then set up to upgrade Warsun, Cruiser, Destroyer, PDS or SpaceDocks whenever you feel like it.
If you get either a red or yellow tech planet in your hand of system tiles then getting AI Development Algorithm would definitely be an awesome choice for first round tech. Of course it may scare the crap out of the other players and cause some early game alliances against you. Still awesome, but you may need to be careful about how you play after getting the prototype warsun II.
I think getting AIDA is way more important than self assembly routines for Muaat. Getting two prerequisites out of the way for Prototype War Sun 2 and get discounts seems a lot better long run than having free mechs. Or just ditch Sarween and have the other tech be Self Assembly Routines and do that right before AIDA. Especially given how they don’t need to produce very often using a space dock, Sarween Tools isn’t going to be as helpful to them as to other factions.
The problem with trading Fires on Round 1 is that you'll need to be in range of someone else (AND it costs you 1 fleet supply). So you may need to Star Forge a Destroyer to send out as a tradeship, then trade for Fires, THEN use Umbat to build the Carrier, THEN start moving out to conquer planets. This will necessitate you having gotten Leadership almost certainly, as you're going to be down at least 1 Strat CC and 1 Fleet Supply CC. Not impossible, but the timing for this to work out is basically going to have to be perfect.
(Of course, if you sell to Hacan round 1, the tradeship portion is wholly unnecessary, but then the rest of your table may be ticked at you for giving Warsuns to the Rich Kitties that early. *grin*)
Indeed, it’s possible but difficult. It’s definitely most possible with another player playing Hacan. If you do make a deal with the hacan player, you are definitely likely to piss some other players off, but hopefully you can maintain an alliance with the Hacan player to jointly subjugate the galaxy before turning on them at the most opportune moment.
Magmus Reactor Omega was introduced with Codex I: Your ships can move into supernovas. Each supernova that contains 1 or more of your units gains the PRODUCTION 5 ability as if it were 1 of your units. This doesn't reward the Muatt player with a free trade good, but does open up options for additional production capacity when you need to replenish fleets (especially fighters to protect your Warsuns). I'd be curious to see what kind match-ups would favor one version of this faction tech over the other. Thanks, Kaptain! 🖖
You’re very welcome, thank you for commenting. The Codex are definitely cool, but most average players don’t know about it, and it takes a little work to be able to use the updated cards in a game, so I go mostly off what was printed, until they print updated cards for an expansion that is. ;)
Thanks so much. I'm really enjoying making it. I'm definitely going to keep it going and develop some new Grokking series on other games when I'm done. I'm really glad that the format has been well received. :)
I think there are some more Secret objectives that are good for the Muaat. Win a fight with your Flagship Destroy a Warsun or Flagship Win a fight against the player with the most Victory Points since the Muaat are a more combat based faction, these objectives should also be easy to achieve
Interesting that you wouldn't go with AI Development as your second Red tech, as that will let you skip your yellow requirement if need be, and Graviton is mildly interesting for you, but maybe not a world-beater.
AI Development Algorithm is definitely a good alternative choice. This one was a little tough because of how well so many different techs work well with them. I didn’t want to just recommend everything. ;)
I'll get it recorded and in the release list. The next 2 episodes were already requested and have already been recorded, The Xxcha kingdom and The Argent Flight, but I'll do the Naaz Rokha Alliance after those. It should be released on August 19th and of course I'll give you a shoutout in the video for the request. Thanks so much for requesting an episode and for watching and commenting, stay tuned! :)

True enough. Definitely anything combat oriented is good for the Muaat.
