Tears in my eyes. What a nice tribute to a legend. It is not the show, film, or theater; it’s the time I spent next to my mother enjoying every moment before , during, and after over coffee and treat. Creating moments I cherish even in her death still engaging with my elderly mother. What a ride since the 60s. Thank you Dame Smith. You are a treasure.
From the interviews I’ve seen I’d say she really was like that. It’s what made performing herself even more magnificent. Will miss this fabulous woman.
We have all been touched by the magic spell of Dame Maggie Smith and we will be forever transformed. Rest in peace!! Now you can create some magic for us all as our Angel. Go well, Maggie!! 🕊️🕊️🕊️🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕
I adored her,she was just incomparable. Downton abbey is my and my mom's favorite tv show ever, but I feel quite sad because everyone is talking about just Downton abbey and Harry Potter as if she had not done anything in her life before these projects. She had amazing career in her younger era and maybe even more meaningful to her.
Dame Maggie was a wonderful star. My mother and grandparents loved her long ago. My mother saw me love Dame Maggie in movies and television from the 1970s, on. She was wonderful in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. A legend.
Imagine one of your greatest achievements as an actor, getting an Oscar for playing an actress who didn't get an Oscar...way to go Maggie! I love it!!!
RIP, Dame Maggie. You will be missed. The range of her work is amazing. About a year ago I uncovered a video of her appearance on "The Carol Burnett Show" - Amazing!!!
The one thing any of us could leave the world is to remember you and SMILE. And that is what DAME Maggie Smith has been. So smile when you think and rememer the Dame 👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾😇😇😇😇😍😍😍😍
She was the spark on Downton Abbey and the best of the best !! Dame Maggie you will always be in our hearts. God Speed you lovely wonderful lady. May you RIP❤
Like many great actors she took her profession, not herself seriously. In other words, she was able to see both the beauty and the absurdity of it all.
i never watched Downton Abbey but I thoroughly enjoyed Maggie Smith in Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, First Wives Club, Clash of the Titans, and the Sister Act movies. I am only now learning she did voiceover work in Sherlock Gnome and Gnome and Juliet I thought both movies were cute. RIP Maggie Smith!!!
I never watched it either or any of the Harry Potter movies. I kept waiting for them to mention the Sister Act movies in many of these tributes because those movies introduced her to such a diverse audience. But I guess those of us who cherish that role will have to remember her in our own way.
One o the finest examples of casting an actress for a part on an ensemble production,,,Downton Abbey.....All the actors on that set showed their talent...but hers set the bar...
"Hope is a tease, designed to prevent us from accepting reality." Wow that was such an amazing statement. I will always remember her from the original, Clash of The Titans, when she played Thetis, Mother of Calibos
Hail and Farewell to one of the one of the brightest lights that ever graced both stage and screen, Dame Maggie Smith 🥲During sad moments like this I reflect on the lessons that physics teaches us. Energy cannot be created or destroyed but can only change form. My poet’s interpretation is that energy, much like Maggie’s feisty, beautiful spirit/soul, remains intact. Dame Maggie touched so many generations, with her performances that it’s difficult to imagine a world without her in it 🥲 Today I applaud you Dame Smith and thank you for your immense contributions to the arts, Brava 🌹
Since she was in _Hook,_ I pictured this as Robin Williams stands at the gates of heaven. Maggie: “Hello, boy.” Robin: “Hello, Wendy Lady.” _(Tears fill his eyes)_ Maggie: “Boy, why are you crying?” Robin: “I don’t know. A tear for every happy thought.”
I can count in one hand with fingers left over how many times I've cried over the death of an actor. This is the toughest of them. I refuse to watch more than once the Downton Abbey episode where she died. I didn't know she was going to die in it or I wouldn't have watched then. Happy trails, Dame Maggie. You're a legend.
I think Maggy knew it was time. That's why in part she refused to go on playing Lady Violet and decided to end her, even though she knew she stole the show everytime. She has now truly become a painting on the wall. RIP Dame Maggie Smith. "Hope is a tease, designed to prevent us from accepting reality."
Yes this! I watched those movies obsessively when I was younger. I watched this twice to make sure I wasn't crazy that they left out her roles in Sister Act.
You Know 😂 as A Kid I Watched Those Movies and From That Point On I May not Have Known Her Name But I always Recognized Her! Hell My 85 Year Old Aunt Didn't Know Her Name And I Had To Explain Just How Big A Star Maggie Smith
Absolutely. She was in a string of great hit movies in the 1990s. Surprisingly nobody is mentioning her turn as Wendy in Spielberg's Hook with Robin Williams, and who can forget her in The First Wives Club which was another big hit.
I know who the hell you were, Dame Maggie. As far as anyone can know who hasn't even seen you on stage, only on film. I also know that I'm going to miss the hell out of you. It's a poor world without you.
RIP to her. The roles I remember her was in Clash of the Titans as Thetis, Older Wendy Darling from Hook, and Lady Capulet in Gnomeo and Juliet. RIP to everyone else to.
it's still so surreal that all of our core HP professors r now gone. Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid & now McGonagall💔 Rest easy Maggie you've left an amazingly legendary career behind for future generations to enjoy🙏❤
My condolences goes out to maggie smith family. Ive seen her in sister act and harry potter and downton abbey and other movies. We lost another legendary actress. Her legacy will live on. She will be missed. Rip maggie smith 😢👼🙏 3:13
I’m both loving and hating 30 year olds saying she was in Harry Potter, not yet having discovered Downton Abbey and probably never to know the definitive Miss Jean Brodie or Lettice Douffet or Charlotte Bartlett. Americans will never know her comedy with Kenneth Williams or her BBC appearances in the 1960s and 70s and none of us can go back in time to see her Oxford Playhouse and student productions. Such is life. But even a few crumbs of Maggie Smith is a feast to last a lifetime and enough was recorded for the future. Thank you and Rest in Peace.
RIP DAME MAGGIE SMITH YOU GAVE US MEMORABLE MOMENTS AND ALWAYS LEAFT US WANTING MORE AND ON DOWNTOWN WE ALL WATCHED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT BUT WE LOOKED FORWARD MOSTLY TO HEARING YOUR NEXT ZINGER 😅 YOU WILL TRULY BE MISSED 😢
Dame Maggie Smith was a true DIVA with etiquette and decorum. I first came to know her in the film, Clash of the Titans. Then Sister Act, Harry Potter, and Downton Abbey. Since her death Friday September 27, 2024, I found the movie, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and watched it for free on RUclips videos. She is in the movie Quartet on the free streaming site, Pluto. I will watch California Suite today on the free streaming site, Tubi tv. I re-watched Downton Abbey: A New Era late last night on Starz and seeing her character Violet Grantham die, I couldn't help but cry. It's cloudy here today in Washington, D.C. and I will spend the entire day watching movies featuring Maggie Smith. I have all the premium cable channels in my Verizon Fios package, plus Netflix, Amazon Prime, Tubi TV, Pluto TV, and Plex TV.😁 RIP, DAME Maggie Smith. 🙏🙏 P.S. - All the Harry Potter movies are streaming on MAX and I also have all the Harry Potter movies on DVD.
Travel well, lovely lady, I " discovered" you in Sister Act, I loved you in " Cranford" and thot you were brilliant in, "The Lady In The Van", you will be missed... 😔🕊💐
A fine career, though going by her 60 Minutes interview it sounds like she checked out after her second husband died and she was just going through the motions. RIP ❤❤🎉
She was devastated obviously, but she could have easily retired but chose to keep acting, probably because it was extremely healthy for her socially and emotionally to be around other people and work together. At any rate, they are reunited now, and no doubt it’s a joyful reunion.
That is why you shouldn't judge people by what they say in soundbites on the tv/internet. I'm pretty sure this tribute made it very clear how much she loved what she did - for its own sake. She loved acting. I don't think she "went through the motions" of anything in her life.
The filter on the CBS Sunday Morning camera when filming Jane Pauley, or the work done in post production is ridiculous and distracting. Aging is a blessing!
89, surrounded by family, loved by millions, a lengthy and illustrious career doing what she loved. We should all be so lucky.
She is timeless. Her work will live on.
My favorite Downton Abbey character. Thank you for entertaining us. RIP 🕊️

A true Icon. A national treasure. #RIPDameMaggieSmith💔🙏
What a great loss! May she rest in peace.
It's still so sad. Such an icon. Gone. Even though shed lived a long life. You arent ready
You're Absolutely Right we Are Never Ready And The Pain Never Goes Away😢
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💔💔💔💔❤❤❤❤
@@susannpatton2893 that is true, we never are ready for the end.
What a beautiful and touching remembrance. I will miss her.

From Desdemona to the Dowager Countess, in all things she was all Maggie
Good Bye Maggie. We love you!
She'll be missed, rest sweet lady.
Thank you for your many talents Dame Maggie Smith. You will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
I admire the talent and achievements of Maggie Smith.
What a Dame! 💗

I have the good mind to binge all her movies very soon.
Dame Maggie was a wonderful star. My mother and grandparents loved her long ago. My mother saw me love Dame Maggie in movies and television from the 1970s, on. She was wonderful in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. A legend.
She was unbelievable. Watch Evil Under the Sun, pure joy😊
I have loved this Lady's acting a lot longer than Harry Potter so I was delighted to find her enhancing Downton Abbey.
Imagine one of your greatest achievements as an actor, getting an Oscar for playing an actress who didn't get an Oscar...way to go Maggie! I love it!!!
My condolences to our friends across the pond. She will be greatly missed!
Wonderful and unforgettable actress! ❤
She had some of the best lines
She was even better than any line of dialogue given to her character. It’s the delivery that makes it funny.
I think Maggie Smith should deserve her name on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood as a tribute to her career.
RIP lovely lady 🙏🏻

Downton Abbey is classic and it’s very good and a mix of funny and serious

God Blessed us with Maggie ❤
One o the finest examples of casting an actress for a part on an ensemble production,,,Downton Abbey.....All the actors on that set showed their talent...but hers set the bar...
The writer of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes, has always said that he wrote the role of Violet for Maggie Smith.
Rest in Heaven Dame Smith. Such a wonderful long life lived, and a fabulous career.
"Hope is a tease, designed to prevent us from accepting reality." Wow that was such an amazing statement. I will always remember her from the original, Clash of The Titans, when she played Thetis, Mother of Calibos
❤😢 R.I.P. Magie Smith.
There will never be another more Classy Lady than Maggie Smith.
We will remember you!

I cried only once (twice if we count Elizabeth II, but she wasn't an actress). For Maggie.
Quiet magnificence. She made it look so easy.
Rest in peace Maggie. ❤

Her first Oscar was for The Prime of Miss Jane Brody. A film that still resonates today.

Maggie Smith will be missed, several of Britains leading ladies for the History Reels❤😢
Que descanses en paz
God now has Dame Maggie. The world 🌎 will be a brighter place in his joy.
Excellent as a serial killer in the dark comedy Keeping Mum . Will a stellar cast .
Shame she missed her 90th by exactly 3 months. She was brilliant on Downton
She was LEGENDARY!
Oh no- she was fabulous!
She was simply the GREATEST 😔
Божественная актриса
Обожаю ее в фильмах "Зло под солнцем", "Тайный сад", "Смерть на Ниле" и других❤😢

Severus Snape, Rubeus Hagrid, Albus Dumbledore and now Minerva McGonagall. 😢😢😢

Beautiful Soul 💜☮️♾️
Loved her movies
Aawwhh ❤ loved u so much
My husband doesn't know who Dame Maggie Smith is/was, but I do and she is irreplaceable.
Perhaps you can introduce him to her work.
Maggie Smith so Dame funny 💜💕💜
Unlike you
RIP🕊
1:21 Hudson from Upstairs Downstairs!!
She’s still an EGOT in my book because in this case the ‘G’ stands for Golden Globe.
I love her as Wendy in Hook and as Professor McGonagall 😢
Travel well, lovely lady, I " discovered" you in Sister Act, I loved you in " Cranford" and thot you were brilliant in, "The Lady In The Van", you will be missed...
😔🕊💐
I've loved her since Hook and The Secret Garden.
Maggie Smith didn't deserve to die. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
What an odd thing to say. Nobody “deserves” to die. But it is part of existing.
It is a 1:1 certainty that we will all die, deserving or not.
She was BOTH A geat LADY 🎉🎉🎉
Broke my heart when I saw this today. I had no clue she had passed. That damned hurricane kept it from the top headline.
She was an actress
"Actor" is now used for any gender and everyone in between.
THANK YOU!!!

A fine career, though going by her 60 Minutes interview it sounds like she checked out after her second husband died and she was just going through the motions. RIP ❤❤🎉
Nonsense. She was extraordinary in the one woman play at London’s Bridge Theatre - “A German Life” - by Christopher Hampton in 2019.
She was devastated obviously, but she could have easily retired but chose to keep acting, probably because it was extremely healthy for her socially and emotionally to be around other people and work together. At any rate, they are reunited now, and no doubt it’s a joyful reunion.

Raise your wands in honor of Maggie Smith. RIP

RIP
❤
Rest in peace
Now, the younger movie goers are nearly over the hill😅
💔💔💔
🙏😢💐
Maggie Smith actually insisted she was an actress not an actor.
What is the difference? Actress is a woman and actor is a male?
Do you have a link to a source confirming that?
I love her on douton Abby
*Downton Abbey
