Just out of curiosity I was in a situation where someone grabbed me by the neck and pulled me back as opposed to pushing forward and I actually pulled off the technique well at least pretty close, any thoughts on how to do that on pulling back I know there's a technique for that but I'm just wondering I've used this technique in that situation it just happened to be loaded up in the buffer and it worked any thoughts on it ? Oh and Happy New Year love your videos good work !
Thanks for your comment, Dan. I think an important aspect of what you wrote, and similar to the technique Twirling Wings, is that we get our one arm higher than the opponent's choke assuming a two-handed rear choke, which allows us to "get on top" and then hit them with our free hand. If it is a pull back from something similar to a rear naked choke, there is an awesome self-defense technique from Gracie jiu-Jitsu where we pin the opponent's arm, pull down, shoot our leg back and throw them using leverage.
My instructor Richard Huk Planas had us work the same umbrella defense Mr. Seabrook is showing but had us turn first before stepping out. The advantage to this is we're not stepping away from the downward vertical elbow so it makes contact easily, also it brings in the rule weapon first which trumps establish your base being your attacker is behind you. Like Mr. Planas says you don't have eyes in the back of your head so face your opponent as soon as possible. I still teach Jamie's variation to beginners because it drives home the number 1 rule in the system. So from one garage instructor to another thanks for the videos Jamie keepup the good work.🥋
Nice grafting ideas!
Thanks Robert. I am glad you enjoyed it.
